I think there are also options over the Pacific, and they are following the arctic (Alaska and so on), so you are always close to land. Actually there is an international law, that airplanes always have to fly close (I think 2 houres, if I remember rigth) to some land or islands when crossing sea.

You know your more likely to die in a car crash than a plane crash. Same time the ratio of you flying towards driving still makes sense why you have that anxiety. In the US your fine but other countries.. just hope someone doesn’t shoot the whole plane down like Ukraine did.

They don't fly in the middle of Ocean, airline routes are designed to have a close proximity with land as much as possible even if that means flying a longer distance
This can also mean just some small islands with an airport close by. In case South America Europe you flight between Africa and South America over the middle of the ocean, like in that case.
