I‘ve never driven the A110 but I love the styling of it. But if I have to decide between this and a Cayman I would take the Cayman, it‘s the netter car for the money
It would be Porsche but if they offered Manual then it would be at least a competition I think. This way I think they were targeting different type of people. :/
Drove both A110 & A110 S and I kind of dream of driving it on the snow. I’ve to test the Cayman but the Alpine is so light what a toy on swiss alps roads, feeling going sideways and the control it so easily, I’m actually thinking between the A110 and the Yaris GR The A110s is way too stiff for me and a lot of the fun is gone.
The looks, the lightweight, the exclusivity, yet I would still buy the Cayman. Cheaper, more practical and way better built and a manual which for me is a must in a 2 seat sports car. Also prefer the sound of the Porsche :)
« It’s pretty good, it’s not bad, it’s okay..... » while laughing of pleasure, big smile on the face and clearly really enjoying how fun is this toy. It’s really tough for a British to say that something French is just great, isn’it ?
If this car had manual transmission it would be more hyped then GR Yaris, I can't understand manifactures in this situations. I love this car it looks awesome they did increadible job with everything except gearbox it is not bad but it would be 100x better if it was manual, and because of that I will never buy it or consider just because of that f.you that you get from manifacture with this car. @@sammooresphoto Wait I don't understand was it cheaper to be automatic? :o If so then I understand the business case and it's changing a lot but I thought manuals are first cheaper and second lighter
@@lukabrankovic People don't buy manuals anymore for these sorts of cars, at least not in Europe. If I look at ads for used Caymans or M2s in the UK then the vast majority are autos, that's what people choose now. They are faster, better around town and you can still change gears yourself if you want to, so to most people it seems like a no-brainer, even when it's a £1000 option. They haven't sold that many A110s in total so think how few of the manual version they would have sold. Definitely no business case there.
@@ChrisWalker-fq7kf if they went with manual they would sell tons of them. This is drivers car not some regular two series that ofc majority of people is going to get auto when they don’t give a crap how it drives they read and heard that the car is good and will buy it. But when you are making a car especially for enthusiasts and drivers then you have to make it manual! And then think about auto if you want to sell more cars for regular people that doesn’t care about cars that much
acceleration sounds like my 2.9 gen2 987 Cayman, takes a while to get up the power but once you are there, it's a machine. I heal-and-toe'd today - not sure I could live with an auto unless it was so fast I could not concentrate on the gear change imo
I don't think I will ever understand why people feel the need to spell out in big letters what the car is via their licence plates, as if they demand people know what they are driving because they don't understand nuance or subtlety and let the car's styling do the talking. I always felt the appeal with exotic cars was to go "wow, what was that!?", and then look for the badging else do my best to find out, as that was exciting for me. Each to their own I guess
The other big benefit of the Alpine over an Elise/Exige (especially if you're tall) is the getting in/out of it. The Alpine is much easier and although the cabin is still pretty small, it's noticeably roomer than the Elise/Exige. Plus it's a bit more refined. Depending what you want, that maybe a good thing or not.
The blue and mocha leather compliment each other nicely. Fat out on a B road, with 220BHP/tonne, really? It sounds on it, but why do people bemoan the loss of manual when autos and twin-clutch systems are now so much better. Yes, it needs a shift lever and if it had paddles that move with the wheel and two more cylinders it would be better but still no M car. Unique, yes but just get an M2 or M4. More space more power more fun.
They dont need to build the manual gear box, they already have it,from the renault megane RS manual They dont use it here as Alpine clients will rarer have the automatic transmition,is a bit marmite kind of thing
Will keep my more exotic, and far better looking 4c thanks....Neither this or the Caymen have the 4cs cache. People don't come over to talk about your Caynen or A110
The 4C certainly looks more exotic but has a somewhat flawed driving experience on twisty roads with cambers, yes it can be sorted out but the A110 is the better drive and more practical with the boot space.
There an ugly car from the front end, I don't get the hype of the styling. The front doesn't match the rear, I think the rear is a nice design. Not sure I could part with that amount of cash which has renault engine and switch gear.
Alpine A110 or Porsche Cayman...which would you pick?

I love Porsche for my life but I would probably choose the A110. It’s just a bit more special than the Cayman and the look of the car is fantastic!

British understatement in action
This is Sam.
Sam reviews cars and doesn't ask you to subscribe or play loud music over parts of the video.
Other TH-camrs: be like Sam.
😂
Even before I watch this video I know its going to be entertaining. Refreshing review.
This is Gordon Murray’s daily driver so there isn’t much to say about it...
lol
First ! As a french guy and former recruiter for Alpine Renault. This car is sick for his price !
Nice to see you're back Sam - interesting review
Thanks, good to be back

Exactly, I’d take a manual cayman which is this cars main rival over this any day. It doesn’t suit the cars character having an automatic
The thumbnail is the nicest view I have seen one of these.
I love this color too, looks lovely

In which case you’re probably not having too much fun on the road. 3 pedals all day long. On track I’m happy either way
Excellent video 📹
Amazing sports car
What's wrong with the paddles? Decent quality alloy, better than what you get in a lot of pricey cars

Comparison to a Lotus Elise/Exige? Maybe the 250? Apart from the manual obv..
Exige is a significantly more visceral experience. Better sounding engine but slightly worse cabin

I hope you drive the DBS Superleggera
Great car!
Has 2021 a specific aura, making last year's cars behave differently?
Hello Sam, nice video and excellent sound quality. Which microphone are you using? Thanks

Sam, borrow someone's Singer and do a review please. Thanks.
Calling all Singer owners, 🔑 please 🙏🏻
looks like a mercedes amg one from the back!
God I wish I could afford one of these. Did they ever end up selling them in America
Absolutely no idea 🤷🏻♂️
They are not available in North America. I suspect the market doesn’t go for the modest power, lightweight ethos.
They dont need to build the manual gear box, they already have it,from the renault megane RS manual

How does it compare to the M2 in terms of driving enjoyment?
M2 is more lols but this is more fun down a road with lots of twists, ups and downs. M2 actually has boot space and spare seats tho
I tried the M2 in Comp spec. Great car, but the Alpine is just a different beast. Think Lotus and you’ll understand.
Alpine pronounced AlpEEn. Credibility of motor journalists goes instantly out of the window when they get it wrong.
Prob very similar to 2020
What would you buy for 50k.
Good question, probably a 991 carrera s
Infotainment system is sooo bad 😂
I tested the A110 & A110S and it’s the same
soo bad
Maybe the GT, S or R is more for you
it's not al-pyne it's al-peen !!!
haha, i'll say it properly in future

I would buy an Alfa 4C
