This is such an interesting chemistry between the two. Jack comes off as a cocky, notorious serial killer who's trying to prove himself to Lecter, while Lecter is unimpressed and unshaken by Jack's sadism, even reading him like a book and diagnosing him. It almost feels like Lecter is prying out Jack's insecurities as the battle goes on.

I keep watching this video, even now. It is an absolute masterpiece. Jack's first verse was on par to become the best line in an ERB, but then Lecter stole that place on the podium with his second.
I am in awe. Well done, again, some almost-a-decade later.

I feel like an underrated part of this battle is all the buildup Hannibal gets. Normally both battlers start already primed for battle, but here, while Jack is going off, we see Hannibal getting wheeled in place, his straightjacket being removed, then his muzzle. It's like he's a terrible beast that is normally kept contained at all costs through several layers of security measures, and now he is being unleashed, all the seals are broken one by one, just so he can tear Jack to shreds. It builds a sense of foreboding and threat to his appearance and, considering that he has some of the most annihilating verses in ERB history, he definitely lives up to the hype

If I remember/understand the production correctly, Dan Bull wrote and performed at least the first verse as a non-battle rap, which then was used as-is in this battle, as Lecter notices with his, "you didn't mention me once in your entire battle rap". The Ripper didn't, because that wasn't a battle rap, just a rap, which made the battle a wrap.

So, fun little detail that I haven't seen pointed out: During Jack's second verse, you can hear five female screams in the background, which match the number of victims that historians generally agree were killed by Jack the Ripper.
However, it's also somewhat hard to pick out the screams during his verse, so much so that I counted six at one point...which, again, lines up with a sixth possible victim that didn't really match Jack's previous victims, but many still attribute to him.

The only ERB that gives me goosebumps. That’s how fine this episode is. The music, the lines… fucking great atmosphere. I come back to this at least once a month.
