- Adrian Newey has reportedly tendered his letter of resignation to Red Bull, with his departure expected by the start of 2025 at the latest. Christian Horner's conduct appears to be the primary reason, and Ferrari appears the most likely next destination for the decorated engineer. Newey apparently believes the Mercedes program would be challenging to recover, with little faith in team principal Toto Wolff.

Current rumor is Ferrari is the most likely.
1. Arston might use Newie to boost market value before Stroll Sr sells.
2. Merc recovery might take too long, plus Newie reportedly doesn't think highly of Toto probably since the team was built by others too.
3. McLaren good but not a new challenge, he's been there done that.
Ferrari a new legendary challenge, plus seems the most serious team right now.
Of course he could just retire.
I don't get why he doesn't respect Toto. He is still the team owner with the best active record, even after all these weaker years, Mercedes never was lower than 2nd in the constructors yet.

@@st181036 Toto never built Merc alone and that's the problem. Also, he's never had to rebuild a team or fix one in decline. Plus never had to prepare for new regs either really.

@@st1810362022 they were 3rd in constructors and it isn't looking good for this year. Last year they just scraped it and likely weren't even second best car anyway. Ferrari were threatening to overtake them for many races (late season) but something always happened to one of the drivers, race after race, dsq, drain covers, mechanical failures etc.
Conversely, it is looking good when the wind tunnel time resets, but whether they can do anything with a ton of CFD and WT time is another matter. Not if there are fundamental issues with correlation.
Toto still should get some props as he did lead the team through periods of dominance and not all of Brawn's work like some state.
He seems a bit off and nonchalant at times recently. No fizz. If Newey does actually think that then it isn't looking good for them and Toto let a lot of talent go over the years.
Andy Cowell and Aldo Costa being two prominent figures, the latter almost has as many championships as Newey.
I also share many of the sentiments Newey does over the 2026 regs.

Those antonelli lap times are why people say he’s the next verstappen. It’s VERY RARE you have a driver that can drive these pirelli tires to the SAME EXACT PACE lap after lap. That’s what people don’t get about max when people like Peter Windsor are “talking him up”

He is allowed to go talk to the press if he wants to about what has happened at Red Bull. Offering to sign an NDA in exchange for early release from his contract benefits Red Bull as much as Newey.

@@ronmastrio2798 because there isn't a guarantee of a top seat for 2026 onwards, even if he is faster than most/all of the drivers. If the other teams have successful driver pairings (and we don't know if they will or won't yet) he might not have a look in elsewhere. And whilst anything could happen, it's the general consensus that from 2026 they do not have the best engine development. Depending on Newey's terms if/when he departs for Ferrari and whether he can begin work on the 2026 car, then RB probably don't have the best chassis/suspension either. There aren't too many top drivers that would put the long term in jeopardy for a short term gain, maybe Sainz excluded because of his situation. But RB is not the place to be I think, when it's pretty clear a lot of top staff don't want to work for the Horndog, and the Horndog very much doesn't care if they want to leave.

Absolute nonsense, for all anyone knows the Mercedes 2026 engine could be a repeat of 2014 and completely blow Aerodynamics off the top perch, which would potentially give him years to perfect the design due to the power advantage.

I dont think Newey's departure from Red Bull would make much difference in the short term. I should imagine that his genius would need time to come to fruition. Also there must be people in Red Bull who have learnt a great deal from him and who can pass his great expertise on to others in Red Bull. The best solution is for all at Red Bull to make things up and then to continue to enjoy the fruits of being the greatest team in F1.
Newey is a smart man. He's been studying the other teams for years now. He wouldn't go to a team that didn't already have serious potential to win. I think he sees something in the Ferrari and believes he can unlock that car.

The teams should add their own super resolution engineering cameras with very unique views that aren't wireless and no one has access to until after the day after the race because the video files take sixteen hours to decode and process. They'd then at least always have new physical evidence to submit whenever needed. There's probably a reason why this won't work.

RB should find a way to have Honds back as their engine supplier for a year or two, until the RBPT project is up to speed. It would mitigate a lot of the risks with their new PU.

Merc beat everyone AT SPENDING more than any team ever. It's still their only strategy.... spend their way to the podium. Examples... Offer Max $150 million per year....offer Newey $100 Million. They have (had) talent at Mercedes; Hamilton, James Allison, etc.... but they can't build a good car even with the most employees of any team. They are now average. I think the "retirement" could be a ruse. With the cost cap being changed so you can not hide "contracters", I suspect RB has found a way.

It's not set in stone 12 months of Gardening leave. The longer the leave period the less enforceable it is under English law. Redbull would have to take Newey to court over it. I doubt that's going to happen. If he quits now he'll be at Ferrari in 25.
He will have a clause in his contract as to why he's leaving.
Any gardening leave clause would be costly for Red Bull. Would they really want to pay a year of Newey on top of what they are going to be paying his replacement? More than often than not gardening leave clauses are almost impossible to enforce, especially if Newey's contract is stacked with bonus payments, as with no way to make the bonus, it could be then argued to be unfair, and therefore null and void. No doubt Horner's off the cuff remarks that no one would be contractually held to stay against their will will come back to bite him.

What I said yesterday, if the Horner-scandal has *ANY* weight to it, and the accuser was in fact Newey's personal assistant, that's an easy slamdunk for Newey to exit his contract, and might even void gardening leave.

My dream is that F1 will get a Grand Prix directly on the streets if Manhattan somehow. I know it's basically impossible and just using all that space would hurt the economy there so bad. Las Vegas was severely painful, NYC would be excruciating. Still, I want it. If it's not in Manhattan then I don't want any other new roads races.

Ferrero Wache has been bragging for 2yrs that he is the genius behind their recent success. How much of that to take as gospel can be deemed from Neweys early release. Is there a reason why RB let Adrian out of an extensive gardening leave to potentially help a competitor build a car for 2026? Not sure how involved Newey was in the RB19 and 20..RB seen happy to let him go but with a bit of salt releasing the announcement on a significant date, a date Newey and the F1 community would wish to forget.

Most of his career has been without one you could even argue he didn't have one in 2021 due to the pace of the Mercedes being comparable if not greater.

@@ronmastrio2798 The 2021 RB was definitely faster than the merc at the start of the year. The merc needed the extra engine in Brazil to really get a big advantage over the RB.

Btw, those pre2021 RBs weren’t slow. On occasions, track and atmospheric conditions used to neuter the Merc - which were engineered to run in clean air but ordinary when stuck in traffic on a hot day- and played to the aero strengths of the RBs allowing Max and/or DannyRic to thrive.
There’s a reason why the Bulls were always quick in Monaco & Hungary or at altitude tracks like Brazil, Austria and Mexico.

From all these moves, I can see Piastri now going to RedBull in 2026. He will want to be a #2 from a stronger driver until Max leaves and then take over as #1. All of this to get away from Norris.
Until its "Officially" announced i dont believe it .this is F1 after all, theres rumor, news reports that come out year after year that turn out more often then not to be wishful thinking or people just honestly making things up
