10000 Mealworms VS Watermelon Strawberry and Bread - Time Lapse [4K]

  • This time I fed my mealworms some slices of watermelon, slices of bread and a couple of strawberries.
Strangely the worms finished the bread the fastest, and even though they started to eat the watermelon and the strawberries at a quick pace they eventually slowed down.
    Some info about mealworms:
Mealworms are the larval form of the mealworm beetle, Tenebrio molitor, a species of darkling beetle. Like all holometabolic insects, they go through four life stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Larvae typically measure about 2.5 cm or more, whereas adults are generally between 1.25 and 1.8 cm in length.
Burrowing and eating are a top priority when it comes to being a mealworm, and they will eat just about anything. They will eat grains, vegetables, any organic material, fresh or decaying. This plays a huge role in the ecosystem. Mealworms aid in the decomposition of any spoiled organic material.

Mealworms are not worms. They do look wormish, but they are insects. :)

Well, technically no. If left alone, organic matter turns into a kind of sludgy soup. At least, we do. We don’t turn to straighten up dust. And when fruit decomposes, it grows moldy, and in the case of watermelon, seems to turn into a sloppy watery mess. This video is what organisms that aid in decomposition do. 😊

I just went about my day, however I did try to get every piece of cereal out of my mouth when I found out just to make sure it wasnt part of a worm.

Man those watermelon scraps at the end looked revolting. Was that caused by the worms or is watermelon always gonna look like that after it's been sitting out for a day and a half?

Mealworms aren’t at all like fly maggots that leave gross residue all over everything. Food can rot very quickly especially when there’s a lot of moisture and not enough ventilation.

Suggestion: 24/7 Live Stream of the Mealworms eating something so we can watch in real time during the process until the meal worms completely finish whatever they are munching on.
