Nah, our class grew mealworms in grade 2, it was really interesting to see the whole metamorphosis happen, my batch had a pupa that just jumped around the whole time, idk why, the good ol’ days .
There is a high probability that it will happen that after a while only the faeces, all the dirt of the organisms will be visible. Other than that, worms crawling.
Question: are the meal worms that you used in each separate experiment the same group or do you have differnt cultures of meal worms that are used in separate experiments?
He probably has multiple groups for each setup so that he can film multiple timelapses at the same time. Otherwise he would need to take more than two months for each video. But that doesn't mean he doesn't reuse the mealworms after done filming one video
I did a science experiment with mealworms as a kid and they aren’t as gross as you’d think. If you keep them in a jar of oats they eat that and eventually turn into a beetle.

As someone who has eaten both mealworms and octopus, the first one has left me with the concept of “oh no I better hurry before my morning snack eats my afternoon snack.”
@@abanghandsem5133 Octopus has its own fish like taste, most similar to the more common scallops in my opinion. For mealworms I’ve only ever had them precooked but they’re sort of lite and crispy and they remind me of salted and shelled sunflower seeds.

Mealworms and other maggots and such are generally solitary. They don’t really communicate with one another like how eusocial insects do. You can just imagine them as a bunch of hungry babies that just want to eat stuff. Once they develop into beetles, they’ll disperse out and will probably never meet each other again unless mating

Great question, actually not all plastic is consumable since each plastic is made differently with harmful chemicals to the worms. But yes they can consume plastic
Plastics aren’t nutritionally complete for mealworms, but if you supplement the styrofoam with something else like carrot chunks, it seems to be good for them.

I watch these videos to try to help me get over my crippling fear of crawling insects. Starting with slimy things like worms, to crawly leggy things like beetles, then to terrifying monstrous things like centipedes and millipedes, and spiders will be the final test (which will probably take a lot of time). Butterflies and moths are alright by me

Was wondering if Countries were possibly considering to use something like Mealworms to get rid of Food waste. Did very quick research and couldn't find anything concluding so, but did manage to find out that Mealworms can eat plastic.
@eggrollsoup I mean, we don't use bugs for anything, so they don't pose a threat if they eat something that doesn't make them healthy to eat because nobody eats insects anymore. Pigs and animals could ingest something that could pose a threat not only to the livestock but more importantly, to us.

They have microorganism in their digestive tracts that allow them to break down some plastic

Was wondering if Countries were possibly considering to use something like Mealworms to get rid of Food waste. Did very quick research and couldn't find anything concluding so, but did manage to find out that Mealworms can eat plastic.
I mean they ate some of the stickers like the watermelon

@eggrollsoup I mean, we don't use bugs for anything, so they don't pose a threat if they eat something that doesn't make them healthy to eat because nobody eats insects anymore. Pigs and animals could ingest something that could pose a threat not only to the livestock but more importantly, to us.
@@viktorbihar5384 oh you said food waste, in my head i was thinking of food scrap like corn husk for example, things we cant digest should be feed to cattle. but i think a better use for food garbage is compost
tried giving my mealworms an old log, they ate it in record time. Wonderful creatures, our chickens also had quite a feast after I was done with the little crawlers.
