Pretty soon we’ll have nearly indestructible phones and that’s pretty cool. I couldn’t even fathom having a phone as high tech, water proof, sturdy, and big as my pro max when I was 13 with my old Nokia and eventually my G1.
It's crazy that it survived that long. If you wouldn't have been charging it, there probably wouldn't've been condensation in the camera and the speakers would probably just dry themselves after a few days. That's so crazy, that the phone just survived with no problems at all. 10 years ago? Impossible.

I fell into the ditch one time in the past. Couldn't find my Galaxy s9 in the shallow pond, so I went back for it in the morning. Found it - It got cracked back, but it worked fine after being submerged in water for 12 hrs or so.
I have this phone that got accidentally submerged in water for about 4 seconds. Got it out, turned it off for an hour. Then turned it on for assessment. What happened is the switches (vol and power) responds with a delay but the screen can still be touched. About an hour the switches are back to normal but the screen is gone. Does not respond to touches anymore but on the next day, the touch response is back. May I hear yo guys' input over this?
Modern flagships will not die normally from simply getting wet or submerged as we saw here. Now, if the screen is cracked, back is cracked (if applicable), or anything is physically damaged that isn't just the frame. You can expect the water resistance to be worse than from the factory. I work for a technology company and fix phones on the side, delay in button response could be water inside the buttons which won't damage anything assuming the buttons are properly sealed. Replacing the screen would probably fix yours but also inspecting the screen cables for signs of a short or corrosion will help actually diagnose what you'd need to do. We can almost guarantee it got water on the back of the screen meaning I would personally reflow the screen connections on the board to ensure the corrosion doesn't keep forming/fix any current issues with the connections.
@@tyf.4399 Brought it to a local tech and said it's fine and would not do anything to the phone as it is already fine and would not take the risk of disassembling it as he said it may damage it further. What do you think?
@@gypsygypsy_y Depends. If it is working now and hasn't had any issues for a bit I wouldn't be too concerned about it. Not because taking the screen off is dangerous, any competent technician should be able to do it 99/100 times without damaging anything but there is that risk. Mostly because the price you're going to pay for them to simply clean the board and reseal the phone is probably not worth it for most people. If you're phone is more important, maybe you use it for work, etc. Then maybe ensuring the board isn't developing any corrosion is worth it to you so you have a reliable device. But assuming that isn't the case, probably fine for now. But you shouldn't have had any issues in the first place so there is definitely cause for concern for reliability of the device. Hate to be that guy, but the TLDR is that it depends what is more important to you. Edit: Just to clarify, doesn't mean that tech is incompetent. Just means he probably assumed you valued money more than opening your phone with no intentions of replacing anything. Both can be valid solutions. Just depends on the customer. The tech may have been completely fine with opening the device, but just assumed you didn't want to unless there was a more apparent issue he could resolve.
this was a great video. the Livestream was fun to check into every day and I really thought the phone would be busted but not only did you manage to revive the speakers, you saved the camera too. really impressive!
Wow, I was waiting for the final time lapse but didn't expect the tear down. Is the front camera working? and can you still charge using the type C port?
I had to take it apart to figure out where the water entered the phone. I couldn't use the front camera with the original samsung camera app because it wouldn't let me switch, but later on the idea came to me maybe I should try it with some third party app, and with that the rear camera was still broken but I was able to switch to the front facing one and it worked. Charger port also worked once the phone was dry :D
Whoa man that last part about cleaning with isopropyl to bring back camera was mind boggling 😮 all it took is a little cleaning alcohol. I'm just happy that samsung has come a long way in build quality since S6 onwards that was the first time they stepped up their quality game 😊.

This reminds me of the time I accidentally drowned my Galaxy S8 (2017) in 15 feet of water and didn't notice for over 30 minutes. The phone was acting up similarly to the one in this video such as fogged up cameras that no longer worked and terrible sounding speakers, so I went and bought a Galaxy S20 Ultra (2020) that very day. While I didn't need the old phone anymore, it 100% recovered after a day or two in a bag of rice.
The speakers sounding terrible might just be from the water itself being where the speaker hole is. It'd be interesting to see how it would perform after properly drying.
This is amazing. I am at loss for words. I expected it could last a couple of days in water but 31 days submerged in water and it still works fine after being removed. Wild!! I wish Samsung could see this.!!
Thank you for an idea about isopropanol. In the Spring my Huawei P30 (has no any IPXX protections) was with me when I got under the rain. It was nice, but after couple hours for some seconds there display matrix was glitching. On the next day all cameras was fogged. Used rice for ~10 hours, it helped. Then for some monthes I had no any troubles, but in September it starts hanging on when I try to use wideangle camera. After a week or two, camera app starts lagging and sometimes it was not working. Sometimes reboot was helpful, sometimes wasn't. And a bit later cameras died. The main app was crashing, so I even could not switch to front camera. But in Telegram app it was possible to record some short video-messages (there is front camera always default). I bought new camera module for 30$, replaced it and... it worked, but there was about 2 seconds between any cameras switching. After a couple hours, it died again. So yesterday I bought new smartphone: S21 Ultra, but it would be excellent if I can resurrect my Huawei. On my opinion there was still better camera then in my new phone. I'll try and if success, I'll left a feedback here.

This is awesome! I am very curious how an iPhone would fare brand new out of the box submerged as well. It’s worth noting that every time you drop a phone, whether you see damage or not, can reduce water resistance
6:03 for anyone doing this, it's recomended to wash the parts with denaturated water or ipa first (to remove mineral buildup from normal water... or anything worse). If using ipa bath tou can dry it really easy by compressed air or lil bit of heat (it evaporates realky fast). It's way better than using dirty rice ir silica balls. If you do it like it this vid (only after it does not work) you risk that some residue will short out components that could have been saved. I mean it's still only a Samsung, but any device deserves chance for fix up.
putting rice anywhere near a phone will cause more damage, and will not get rid of any of the water damage. The starches and various small particles and grind away traces, and speed up the corrosion process greatly. The best thing you can do is disassemble as much as you can and either put the parts in a vacuum, or in an area with a steady flow of warm away blowing over the wet parts. Still shocking how well the phone survived!

Everyone on YT: "The S21 is the best phone out there!"
This guy: "It's not a good phone if you live underwater though!"
I like how the music went all epic when the camera FINALLY started working like reaching a milestone 😂👍🏻
what surprises me most is that there doesnt seem to be any burn in although the white timer screen was on for 31 days
Didn't even think about that
Bacause the water keep refreshing the screen, so it didnt heat causing the burn in
It didnt set on fire 😂
@@muneebrehman6288 I think you got wooshed
Burn in isn’t nearly as bad as it used to be. Screens have come a long way, the last time I’ve seen burn in was on my Note 4.

How much efforts can you put to make a video?
This guy: YES
My jaws dropped when you washed the camera with alcohol and it actually started working again.
Im still shocked that it lasted a whole month it was fun checking on thr livestream every day while it lasted cool experiment btw
Yeah, a month is a long time when we talk about phones and water. Thanks
I fell into the ditch one time in the past. Couldn't find my Galaxy s9 in the shallow pond, so I went back for it in the morning. Found it - It got cracked back, but it worked fine after being submerged in water for 12 hrs or so.
My galaxy s21 5g just fell in a water bowl in the sink. I'm panicking but its shut off and drying. Idk what will happen
@@MissShey89 nothing bad should happen. Let it dry few hrs just to be sure and thats it.
The speaker area being wet is normal, as the gasket is inside.
Your teardown impressed me! Great job with the repair
It is amazing what isopropyl alcohol can do to electronics. Good job.
Yeah, isopropyl saved the day
I have this phone that got accidentally submerged in water for about 4 seconds.
Lol you had to wait a few days in a rice bowl for the water to go away not a few hours
You probably had a faulty model
Pretty neat, shows that technology has really come along way with waterproofing. I remember when people used to fear getting a cellphone wet.
I can't believe I watched a whole Samsung commercial without skipping a bit
Great Video bro.. Followed your stream till the end and its great to see its still working
Thanks, I'm also happy even the camera was repairable

Slightly used samsung phone only turned on one time to try it. Almost all perfect. $600, no lowballers
It was absolutely beautiful to see is all working again.
Super cool!! What a journey this was and in the end you didn't waste a single dime!
Thanks! I was ready to say goodbye to the s21, but I'm happy it's still working
this was a great video. the Livestream was fun to check into every day and I really thought the phone would be busted but not only did you manage to revive the speakers, you saved the camera too. really impressive!
Thanks for checking on the stream from time to time. Yeah, this was a success, I would say :)
@PhotoOwl wheres the live stream
Damn that phone is designed by good engineers! Props to those dudes and thanks for this entertaining video!
This channel has amazing production quality
Holy shit, that's one seriously damn impressive piece of a smartphone.
Whoa man that last part about cleaning with isopropyl to bring back camera was mind boggling 😮 all it took is a little cleaning alcohol. I'm just happy that samsung has come a long way in build quality since S6 onwards that was the first time they stepped up their quality game 😊.
The inside of the phone is pretty cool 👍
Salute to your work !🙏🏼🙇🏽♂️
You deserve more and more likes ❤️
Lol I'm as impressed with taking it apart and re assembly several times, as I am the phone surviving under water that long and camera eventually working.
Didn't expect you to go that far to try and fix it, nice work!
I'm surprised it actually still worked as much as it did!
This just proves what I already know, Samsung Galaxy phones are the best! 📱❤
I really appreciate your hard work on your videos, and the content is very useful.
Keep going buddy 👌
Amazing video, dude! You basically sacrificed your S21 to make a amazing video, that's impressive! Thank you very much!
He literally didn’t basically sacrifice anything. But his time. The phone works. Where is the sacrifice?
@@jamesbizs first of everything he didn't know what it was going to happen. and yeah, the phone works, but it is not like the same phone before the water
Then you should watch to the end!
That phone is actually really cool 🤩😄👍
Ty
This is actually good advertisement. Samsung should sponsor this video.
I still remember the days when phones couldn't touch water
This video was just perfect. Phone was tested, dryed out, fixed. Bug thumb up :)
This proves it galaxies are indestructible
This is amazing. I am at loss for words. I expected it could last a couple of days in water but 31 days submerged in water and it still works fine after being removed. Wild!! I wish Samsung could see this.!!

Watching this proudly on my s21ultra
This was soooo satisfying to watch 😩 Definitely was t expecting the phone to be fully functioning in the end
Good luck on fixing your phone :)
@@anthonyserna6151 unbelievable. I literally did nothing: just sprayed isopropanol and wiped with old toothbrush contacts of all cameras. Rest of isopropanol wiped with paper, turned my phone on and all cameras just work as never before! Goddammit, so simple and cheap solution, it works like a charm, still can't believe 🤯
So strange, going to see this video just for fun, nothing useful, but accidentally fix my old phone. Author should have a coffee from me 🥳
Cool,that's good :)
Huawei makes decent phones indeed, could have been my main phones if samsung didnt link so well with my windows laptop
@@pham3383 that feature is also cool, but I would use them just if they'll have Google services (Google pay the main problem). So P30 is just latest Huawei which has them, but it is perfect enough to be bought again - they're not available to order in Ukraine now
This is so far from ur usual content... i love it tho and makes me wanna buy the s21 (plus the wireless charger And i really hope this was sponsored coz u deserve it!
This is awesome! I am very curious how an iPhone would fare brand new out of the box submerged as well. It’s worth noting that every time you drop a phone, whether you see damage or not, can reduce water resistance

What an outstanding video...
Well done...
Phones are better each decade. "Practice makes perfect" - some person
Soon they will overtake us as the dominant species
6:03 for anyone doing this, it's recomended to wash the parts with denaturated water or ipa first (to remove mineral buildup from normal water... or anything worse). If using ipa bath tou can dry it really easy by compressed air or lil bit of heat (it evaporates realky fast). It's way better than using dirty rice ir silica balls.
If you do it like it this vid (only after it does not work) you risk that some residue will short out components that could have been saved. I mean it's still only a Samsung, but any device deserves chance for fix up.
Wow, I didn’t know you were a tech master.
Hahaha I'm not a tech master 😜
This is badass phone. It's been a month, I can't keep my eyes off the amazing display, colors that I never seen before.
I also have samsung galaxy s21. This is a very good device for both gaming and everyday life. I love s21 ❤ 😊
putting rice anywhere near a phone will cause more damage, and will not get rid of any of the water damage. The starches and various small particles and grind away traces, and speed up the corrosion process greatly. The best thing you can do is disassemble as much as you can and either put the parts in a vacuum, or in an area with a steady flow of warm away blowing over the wet parts.
Still shocking how well the phone survived!
DO NOT LISTEN TO SERGAL. I put my phone in my vacuum cleaner and now it is completely full of dust and will no longer charge.
@@amaimask3088 the funny part is he didn't say vacuum cleaner, he just said vacuum, which I'm pretty sure would just destroy the phone if you did that. Maybe even more so than if you did indeed put it in a vacuum cleaner.
That’s a VERY resilient phone 📱
Awesome. Was wondering what happened to the live stream. Glad to see that after you left the pieces in a bowl of rice it worked again.
The isopropyl alcohol helped the most
Samsung really does do a surprisingly good job on making phones that last
Is it your job to repair technical things like this? You did an amazing job here. My S20 just got fished out of a lake where it lay for almost 2 days... I really hope it can be saved as well. Greetings from near Berlin.
Nope, I just like to fix things myself, (if I can). You can learn to fix almost anything on the internet, and this wasn't too hard anyways. So, is your phone alright now?
@@PhotoOwl It is incredible... but yes, it seems ok. The speakers took a while to dry. But no further damage seems to exist. There was no water behind the camera lenses and everything works fine it seems. I am so relieved.
