I moved to Hawaii over 40 years ago. I love it here. I tried very hard to move my mother here. Even built her a house. She lasted one year. I wanted her to get away from the mainland with all the people traffic crime and drama.
She just wasn’t ready. People are just too addicted to certain lifestyles. They find it hard to adapt. I did my best to make her happy in Hawaii but she insisted on moving back to the drama.

I enjoyed your conversation with Jack. Six weeks ago, I got a pretty bad respiratory infection -- inflammation from all the smoke in Chiang Mai. Two minutes in the pharmacy and I had what I needed and was 80% better in 3 days. Thai pharmacies are almost like walk-in clinics without an x-ray machine. It's one of the toughest undergrad degrees in any US university, I wish our pharmacists had the same latitude as Jack and his Thai fellow pharms. Any Sunday with family and close friends is a good day. That larb moo from "Meh Moo" looked incredible. That's one of my favorite Thai dishes. Cheers, and enjoy your time with family. 🐊🐊🐊🐊🐊🐊

The highlight of your Mother’s life is your visits, so I think the best solution is to have your Mother move a walking distance away from where you and Paige live. Include her in your day to day life just like Paige’s parents are included in your day to day life. The sooner the better 🙏

Good morning Chuck and Paige. It is not surprising. Without learning the language (it is not impossible but very difficult and laborious, even more at her age), she can hardly integrate into her social environment, even more so without having Anglo-Saxon neighbours near her. Therefore, being alone for most of her day-to-day life, it is very likely that she feels some nostalgia and even sadness, beside bored as you well said, however there is nothing like a good trip to heal those emotional "wounds." I hope you'll find a way to sort it out. Greetings.

It is good for Kara to go back to visit her friends and grandchildren the way you and Paige did. But 6 weeks seem to be a rush for her age. I am one year younger than Kara and I can tell you that a direct long flight almost killed me. So my last trip to Thailand, I took several short trips allowing my body to rest along the way by taking a break in LAX, Hawaii, and Japan. On the way back, I am not sure whether to go back through the Atlantic or the Pacific route.

Hello Chuck, this is Jonya Travis, I am from Udon; your mom and I about same age, I wish I could hang out with mom. I am so home sick for Thailand, but I live in Iowa State.

WHEW! You had me worried with the title of this video. Good that you explained it later in the segment. Kara needs a hobby or daily activity to occupy her time. One has to be active, busy so that time just flies by. You know all this; hopefully you will have a solution for her when she returns to Thailand after her 6 week hiatus in the States. Glad you introduced the viewers to Jack, good very informative interview, a really great guy! I totally agree with Jack; Asians have a more practical approach to life in general, much simpler approach in problem solving. Mafia and her crew put out such a variety of visually appealing food dishes. Chuck, you're a most fortunate son in law to benefit from their cooking. I add comments as I follow along with the video.......

Rice is a staple food item in Vietnamese cuisine, not just noodles and banh mi. Perhaps that is yr impression b/c you only ate at places serving and specializing in noodle dishes and bread. If you go to a full dining restaurant that serves entrees of seafood, meat, soup and vegetable dishes, stir fry, steamed, braised, deep fried, stews and casseroles, rice is served. A typical VN meal at home are a few dishes eaten with rice.

4:10 I saw a very similar old and rusty cooking stove recently at a local vendor and I was genuinely worried that one day the 25kg pot of soup would tip on her if the structure failed. She seemed to think it had lasted 20 years, why wouldn't it last another.

The pharmacists in Vietnam operate very similarly if not the same. My first trip to Vietnam in 2010 I got a sinus/nasal malady. When my fiance now wife took me to the pharmacy vs. a medical doctor I didn't argue. Got a nasal spray from the pharmacist and got better within an hour.

On common Pharmacy meds, we just head over to Progresso Mexico (about 25 to 30 minutes away) for Amoxycillian and some other meds that the USA pharmacy can not without prescription. There are a few we can not bring back, but not too many (or not bring back without prescription)

You’re right, I think. If a PA(physician’s assistant) can prescribe meds, why can’t a pharmacist? After all, the pharmacist studies pharmacology and knows more about the meds and their benefits, than a physician’s assistant does. Am I wrong?

Chuck, your mom needs a cooking channel on TH-cam that can generate extra income and give her something to do. All she needs is a tripod to set her camera on the kitchen counter while she cooks. I know she cooks sometimes. When she’s eating from street market or restaurant, she can show the food and do a little critique, and that’s it. She will gain so many friends as well. 👍. Or……just send me a ticket and I’ll become her neighbor/friend. 😆
