Gamakas or gamakkams as they’re also known are achieved through repetitive practice of joining notes together by flowing from one to the other [within the scales of the specific Raga (scales with specific notes]). Anybody who understands anything little about singing can tell you that this was not a live performance by Arijit and rather a pre-recorded performance in a studio to which Ariijt was lip-syncing on stage.
All other people who have no idea about singing will not be able to tell the difference.

Go to 6:15 of the video. The lyrics he is singing is "हो रहा था हो गया है हल्का सा खुमार" but while lip-syncing, instead of 'हल्का' Arijit sang "थोड़ा सा खुमार"।
This is just one small example and there are many other ways to know that this was not a live performance especially if you look at the breathing pattern and as I said earlier only a singer who has performed on stage can tell the difference.

He sung multiple songs with seamless transition as if it’s just one song. When you think that he just took the voice to a half note, he does it so delicately and comes down immediately, so listeners won’t even know. It’s more difficult than singing a full note. He sings from throat, nose, mind and lungs. Normally other singers are heavy on one of these but he balances music perfectly, so it’s like a pearl garland of different colors. It comes through his practice and composure.

The performance is actually recorded beforehand and he is lip syncing. At one point he sang a different word than the recording and that's how you could tell that it wasn't a live performance. 6:17 he sings "thora sa" but you hear "halka sa". That said he is an amazing singer and what I admire most about him is his incredible range.

He is a very versatile singer. You could check out his songs that are more aligned to Indian classical singing (or more accurately - Hindustani classical music) in the 'Aayat' song and also the 'Laal Ishq' song - both from the soundtracks of two different movies.
Also check out another tremendously talented female singer - Shreya Ghoshal. She has a couple of live singing videos at Berklee college of music. Another very popular video of hers is the 'Rozana' mixtape from T-Series.

All of the songs are sung by him. He is the artist. Phir Mohabbat, Raabta, Phir le aaya Dil, love me thoda aur, udd gaye totte, Kabhi jo badal barse, Tose naina, Kabira, banno meri banno, kabira, tum hi ho. These are the songs sung particularly in order and two of them were repeated...I mean different parts of the song.
couple of reasons for the applauds.
1. He is a mainstream cool singer who came out of nowhere from some singing show and gave consecutive hit songs sung for movies.
2. He sang his most popular songs here at the time, and the transition from one song to the next was so smooth, the audience was applauding for the hit song they were about to hear + the smoothest transition even though sung for completely different scripts, love songs regardless.
He sings way better in his individual hit songs than this performance. but this performance was only cool for all the songs sung in so little time.
