When you're a company with many young talents who haven't gotten married yet, having amenities like food and places to rest usually allow those people to work late. Thats one of the benefits.

I worked for Tesla and for Chipotle and they both had free food (Chipotle a bit more obvious, but still) definitely much appreciated 💙

Yeah it's actually a lot of workplaces giving these types of perks not just Google. It is a great perk. I don't know who started it. Maybe it was Google but currently it is pretty much the norm in big companies and even in some startups.
