Trujillo is the best showman in the band. Some might even argue he's the best instrumentalist (see the Metallica HQ video where he wows Kirk Hammett with his flamenco guitar playing).
Human vocals had ruined this "song" or in fact.. you cant possibly in any way fit any form lyrics in this beautyful instrumental "song" without ruin it.. the instruments does the singing. . And that can not be guestioned or debated... EVER !! 😈 R.I.P Cliff 😢
Oh you know it. Robert Trujillo is a real fucking bassist. His Suicidal shit is still badass. Plus he looks like he could kick everybody's ass in METALLICA. Hahahaha
Played at Burton's funeral, 'Orion' is the only instrumental track on 'Master of Puppets' and a song Metallica have rarely performed in its entirety since his death. It opens with Cliff’s atmospheric wah-wah strains, moves into some mid-tempo thrashing and features two bass solos often confused as guitar. The bass-driven interlude in the middle is one of the most haunting musical passages Metallica have ever put to tape
J.J. Not really. Plenty of people don’t know that bass can sound like that with enough distortion and loud enough. Most of the time it’s not that distorted and MUCH quieter on tracks so often times when people who don’t play or know the song or have heard other songs with bass like that in it hear this song, all of a sudden there’s a high pitched, non bass sounding distortion that’s the main focus and doesn’t sound like “bass” so they think it’s just some strange effect the guitar has on it during that solo. When I was younger and just getting into Metallica and had only just barely started playing guitar in my bedroom I thought it was guitar with a crazy effect on it too. Thought that for awhile until I played it on Guitar Hero Metallica and saw that that solo came up on the bass track and saw that Rob’s character was playing it in the game and then found out it’s actually bass
I really think that Cliff and Rob can't be compared. They both were and are experts at the bass, but they both have different styles, and I really think that Rob has one MEAN ASS bass sound. It's just fucking heavy. And Cliff... Well, he was the Jimi Hendrix of the bass. Simple as that.
Rob is a well disciplined musician. Great with both guitar and bass. Cliff had a writing sense that was one of a kind, he wrote songs playing the bass like it was just another normal guitar and it sounded fuckin boss. Both dudes are great bassists
rob is has a more funky style, i personally like his version of orion more, its more colourful. fuck knows what to say about cliff, i mean cliff is cliff, hard to explain what he sounded like, afterall he is the benchmark for metallicas bass sound. i think they can be compared, i think all 3 can be compared, they all brought something iconic to the table, that being said i wish cliff had lived longer
> People always have something to say about Lars and Kirk but they both did an amazing job. This really wasn't a great drum performance even by Lars Ulrich's modest standards. He's all over the place.
It's a case of the sum being greater than the whole. Robert clearly has the most talent, James is the face and maybe the soul via songwriting, Kirk has his moments, and Lars is... grateful for the opportunity. But when they all come together, something special happens. Even after the golden years with Cliff, they have still put out some damn good music.
Metallica probably would never have enjoyed quite so much success without Lars Ulrich, however. Not only did he have business acumen, but his songwriting instincts were good. We hear him being blunt about James Hetfield's crappy Alice-in-Chains-wannabe guitar riff in Some Kind of Monster, and he was the one who came up with the turnaround on the riff in "Enter Sandman", without which the riff would have been quite boring.
Don't be silly. They didn't play it because it makes them sad. Any professional bassist can play the song. Every Japanese metal band has a bassist as good as Robert. I'd take MISA from Band Maid over him among others. This is the instrumental Onset live. It's not as good as Orion but it's a great instrumental. MISA has a bass solo later in the song. th-cam.com/video/mVrN-j_Uc0U/w-d-xo.html
Jealous of what? It takes 8 "musicians" to accomplish what typically 5 people at the most can do. The only one who has any talent is the singer. Their former bassist was horrible. I learned all the bass lines from their subliminal versus in 3 weeks and I'll admit, I suck at bass (just started playing) and that's when I realized that they weren't as good as people say they are. Don't believe me? Look at the bass, guitar, and drum lines from lets say Duality and compare it to lets say Behemoth's the Reign ov Shemsu-Hor or Death's Symbolic and you'll see a massive difference. For the quote I said, I was actually referencing Metalocalypse "Grandpa's guitars are for pussies and grandpa's. I think you know it" I don't know any grandpa's out there that listen to slipknot so I said little kids instead. Guess no one picked up one it.
Max Lu Well, if you tweak the post dialler on the remedial frequency modulator you'll get a noticeable boost in your amplitude sonic leveller. Translation: I have no fucking idea what I just said
Saw them about a week ago in Norway. Rob did an awesome bass solo, and then he played the middlepart of Orion on bass with clips of Cliff rolling on the big screens. Hit me right in the feels
This is my favorite live version of this song because everything sounds really clear, whoever did the sound for this show was on point, a lot of the other live videos of Orion I've seen haven't had rob mixed very well so it's been hard to hear him
+francois P. What?? Rob is a thousand times better than Jason. Almost as good as cliff himself. When has Jason pulled off a solo like this, all Jason does is play the same notes as the rhythm except on bass, nothing unique about his playing.
God watching this at midnight brings so many emotions :'( Don't know how many times I say this but Rest In Peace Cliff, you died a hero! As a Metallica fan I will always remember you.
mettalica is my number 1 band for ever and ever. when I turned 40 for my birthday my daughter gave me a surprise... a band from high school show up to my party and they play mettalica songs for me.. that was my best birthday party

First time I saw Metallica in concert was in May 20, 1986 in Phoenix at Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum..Cliff Burton played some awesome bass and the building rumbled all night..
Don't mean to be bias but knowing that Koreans listen to Metallica (metal) is really weird for me despite the fact that Korea is well known for their pop music culture.
Best thing that could of happened was Jason leaving. Rob is so much better. Jason couldn't even play this. Rob is so much better than what we see in Metallica.
I love how most of the camera focus is on Trujillo
Notice all videos the where rob is featured he usually steals the show.
Hard to keep the camera off such a good showman. He's got amazing stage presence
Trujillo is the best showman in the band. Some might even argue he's the best instrumentalist (see the Metallica HQ video where he wows Kirk Hammett with his flamenco guitar playing).
yeh he's like a big heavy metal monster! you can't take your fuckin eyes off him!
he pulls the same faces as dave gilmore when he's trying to reach a hard note its pure class!
"Orion" requires no words. One of the best performances of this one.
Hi frrrrrrrrriends!!
Also one of the live performances..
Sooo goood but why they wait 28 years
@@strangerthings-wf8uv out of respect for Cliff Burton
It's always awesome when the audience knows all of the lyrics
Especially a non-English speaking audience. Shows real dedication
Cliff would have appreciated Rob.
I bet he would've. :)
Oh you know it. Robert Trujillo is a real fucking bassist. His Suicidal shit is still badass. Plus he looks like he could kick everybody's ass in METALLICA. Hahahaha
For sure. Trujillo is great.
He filled-in nicely. And fit in.
Kirk always looks like he’s high haha.

juan-k sporty - That Rotoscopic Chorus effect in the intro?........Legendary!!!!!
Fred Koewing yes sir, you know it!
Only a moron could confuse the bass solo for a guitar solo.

exactly! He may not be the most technical but he changed the game like hendrix
Cliff would have been proud though, such a great bassist Robert is :)
I have stated this many times World Known
*And Cliff... Well, he was the Jimi Hendrix of the bass.*
He really was.
rob is has a more funky style, i personally like his version of orion more, its more colourful. fuck knows what to say about cliff, i mean cliff is cliff, hard to explain what he sounded like, afterall he is the benchmark for metallicas bass sound. i think they can be compared, i think all 3 can be compared, they all brought something iconic to the table, that being said i wish cliff had lived longer
I love how Trujillo poses and walks around like a warcraft character and smiles in a menacing manner
Rip Cliff and thank you Robert
People always have something to say about Lars and Kirk but they both did an amazing job.
yes

It's true... With one comment...Even though Lars is a mediocre drummer, he is part of Metallica, and I think they could not done it without him...
This is a tribute to Cliff. Anyone talking trash about this performance please take that into account. in my eyes this was perfect, across the board.
I feel like they were waiting to play this song for a long time and because of Robert they finally are able to I'm glad they let Robert join Metallica

When Trujillo looks up and gives a little smile before starting the solo in the middle. 😊
6:15 the realization that the solo part was done on a bass guitar! Priceless!
Ebz Pogi wow lmao it amazes me that people never knew that
I've been listening to Metallica since the late 80's and just found this out a few years ago.
People don't know that?? Wtf
burton also wrote the melodies played at 5:14 and intended to play them on bass before the band “brought him to reason”
Just had my first baby boy, my gf and i named him Orion :)
Austin HERNANDEZ Orion is 5 years young today
What a great name. I wanted to call my son digestive after the biscuit but the wife didn’t like it for some reason.
Should've gonr with Ktulu
Is that even a name?
@@lukeoverthere1364 that's sucks man that would of been a killer name
I think the cameraman doesn't like James Hetfield!
It's basically a bass solo so why would they be focused on the singer?
***** Never why?
pfff, slipknot. Slipknot is for pussies and little kids...I think you know it.
Karl Chavez We live in a free world so if you are jealous of their fame and music so, it´s your problem!
Jealous of what? It takes 8 "musicians" to accomplish what typically 5 people at the most can do. The only one who has any talent is the singer. Their former bassist was horrible. "Fuck Hetfield." - the camera crew
+YoDawgoneeleven yeah, because it makes perfect sense to put the spotlight on the singer during an instrumental.
Starman Tumbleweed it does considering hetfield has a guitar as well dumbass and is the head of the band
Austin Bramer haha got em
Wow you can actually hear the bass really loudly. Wasn't expecting that
Max Lu Well, if you tweak the post dialler on the remedial frequency modulator you'll get a noticeable boost in your amplitude sonic leveller. Translation: I have no fucking idea what I just said
Alan B basically, you said “turn the volume up on bass and everyone else’s slightly down”
*Jason Newsted has entered the chat.*
Jason would like to hear your basscation
this is basically *the* bass song so
Usually it doesn't seem to work when a member is replaced, but was the absolute best replacement for Jason
Your a funny guy
Rob is a badass bass player but his backing vocals kinda suck ^^ Jason's mad voice was so over the top!
+david wagner yeah Jason's backing vocals were the best, rob sounds like someone's trying to put a finger up his butt
Cliff > Rob > Jason.
As simple as that.
Jason had attitude but as a bass player he's vastly inferior to Rob.
Well Jason never got the chance to play this live
"God bless Cliff Burton" rip legend..always in our heart
Akira Yes. Cliff was awesome. But what about Robert Trujillo? He's awesome too. Right? I sure think so.
Saw them about a week ago in Norway. Rob did an awesome bass solo, and then he played the middlepart of Orion on bass with clips of Cliff rolling on the big screens. Hit me right in the feels

Yeah it is a very good live version, but I have to say that Lars really fucked up the drum lines 😑
Watch the one in Italy.
The 2018 recording in Italy was really good
0:00 Intro
1:15 Rob fires
2:27 Kirk solo 1
3:33 Rob solo 1 under spotlights
5:33 James' orgasm
5:53 Kirk solo 2
6:10 Rob solo 2
6:36 Kirk shreddds
7:03~7:20~7:28~ Lars dying
Call Dave Lombardo! 7:03-7.28 😄
Made me tear up. What an amazing performance. Thanx Roberto for keeping it alive. You ROCK!
Kickass performance, RIP Cliff
Rob is looking and sounding AMAZING in this live show!
God Bless Cliff, and Rob Trujillo too, for doing this theme justice !
0:54 Lars is looking at Cliff at heaven
+Ariyan Chowdhury he almost cried at that part
+Ariyan Chowdhury yeah.I hope I see Cliff at heaven too?
We all miss Cliff really. Jason and Rob are good but not at Cliff's bass level.
absolutly right!
+Ariyan Chowdhury (randy orton voice) cliff is in hell!!!
Is it just me or does this song still stir up emotions inside of you?
This song is fucking brilliant! Anybody else feeling a vibe through the beat?
Still my favorite Metallica song. After all these years, this song still makes puts a smile on my face each and every time I hear it.
Robert Trujillo is such a killer musician and his stage presense is phenominal.
BETWEEN LARS' CREEPER LOOK AT THE BEGINING, AND TURJILLO'S "I GOTTA TAKE A SHIT" STANCE, THIS IS AN INTERESTING VIDEO.....
Robert is a bass god... no words.
can you believe they were a bunch of 20 years old kids that wrote this stuff... AMAZING simply AMAZING
Metallica was truly blessed with three extremely talented and dedicated bass players.
I love this - so Energy ! Top 2 my list !
And I am 66-yers old !
wow, nice meme.
I remember seeing them play this live first time; I almost cried. Awesome song live.
Rob is such a fucking awesome bassist! Perfect fit with lars, james and kirk.
That was Robert trujillo.. but those were Cliff's hands.
spiderman you are always right !!!
No it was rob with robs hands
No...
No. Was Trujillo
Cliff blessed him
so good i had to hear it twice. gave me chills hearing it live like that.
same lol
At 6:12 camera shoulda focused on Rob's bass, not this dude.
+28leftbehind it is done on purpose... otherwise it will be shown obviously that Rob is the worst bass player ever in Metallica history...
francois P. Why do u think like this? I think Rob is good tho.
I miss Jason so much... he had (still have) it all, attitude, sound, voice...
+francois P. Sadly, he was treated like shit in Metallica which lead him to leave :L
+francois P. What?? Rob is a thousand times better than Jason. Almost as good as cliff himself. When has Jason pulled off a solo like this, all Jason does is play the same notes as the rhythm except on bass, nothing unique about his playing.
YOU CAN TELL ITS HARD TO PLAY THIS SONG ON THE BASS ANYONE THAT WOULD STEP TO THE PLATE AND PLAY CLIFFS RIFFS IS WORTHY ! VERY WELL DONE RIP CLIFF !
That song never gets old.
i look in the heavons for orion and think of cliff burton. thank you for the music .rip
hearing the guitar riffs with the bass cranked up is just pure awesome. i never get that from the album version
These songs sound so much better live where the bass isn't dialed down...
Thank God God gave us Metallica
One of my favorite Metallica's song. Nice performance of Roberto here.
6:10 this is the way I felt at every Metallica concert I ever went to...
he just realized that it was a bass solo
R.I.P Cliff Burton
This is most excellent :) Right into my METALLICA playlist :) ROCK ON!!!!!!!
I feel this song so deep within my soul. So much emotion, so much feeling, absolutely beautiful and legendary!
God Bless Cliff Burton
I fuckin love kirk hammets solo on that wow!
Beautifully played
God watching this at midnight brings so many emotions :'(
Don't know how many times I say this but Rest In Peace Cliff, you died a hero! As a Metallica fan I will always remember you.
I would love it if they'd make more basssongs like this
That fill in 5:16 by Lars! Sounds so fucking good and fits right in! :)

I love watching Rob, he blows my mind.
This song is just fkin amazing damn!! That riff at 7:03 hits so hard
3:36 OH YES
You can tell they were having memories of those times with Cliff Burton.
R.I.P Cliff Burton

omg the bass tone in the beginning is fucking metal and evil sounding

Master of his craft. Pure commitment and dedication.

I'm surprised lars went more than 5 seconds without doing a stupid snare fill
To be honest, I'm sort of surprised nobody replied to this comment here.
On the other hand, whats wrong with drum fills?
+Mr. Nobody Forever when played at appropriate times, and if they are played well, there's nothing wrong with them. But lars' fills don't match either of those criteria. it ruins the song.

Thanks Cliff. Miss ya man. Wish u could've gotten more out like this one. Top 10 songs for me.

I got so emotional listening to this. What a fucking brilliant song!!

this is so sweet....I really hope they play it again this year because it's 30 years in a couple weeks.....RIP Cliff. always love you
A long bus ride in the middle of Utah brought me there ! Little America!
It seems Cliff Burton is alive in Trujillos body
Best thing that could of happened was Jason leaving. Rob is so much better. Jason couldn't even play this. Rob is so much better than what we see in Metallica.
Where is.the funny botton
Rob nailed it perfectly , beautiful ...
