Will, that is some nice Looking Black Walnut. It sometimes is a beast to Split. I will g-mail you to get some Stickers. I get my Logs from a local Tree Service, as I do not sell it yet but I think I am going to maybe start by putting a little out in front Yard this Summer for Campfire Wood. I am here in the Hospital today and Tomorrow for more testing as the Doctor thinks I am not recovering from my Stents the way I should. I love cutting my own Firewood and joining all the Woodhounds out there. At 71yrs, I have Learned alot about Wood and always looking for more. You hang in there Buddy, stay Safe and hope to see you at Back40 Firewood with Dan Friday night Live. I will keep you updated on my Hopeful recovery. Ron from the Woodyard in Duanesburg NY.
At twice your age I don't do much mauling anymore, but I enjoy watching when others attack some rounds and get their cardio going! Thanks Will. Love the beauty and aroma of Black Walnut.
I love the way black walnut smells when it burns, such a sweet aromatic smell. But you have a small gold mine there, slab that stuff up and buy a commercial splitter of your likings ❤❤ love ya too buddy. Cheers
Always good to get back to our roots once in awhile on the end of a maul. Divide... and conquer. Isn't it funny how often right after a block gets us to submit and take a break, it opens up within another strike or two, almost like it's making fun of us and then letting us off the hook? 😂
Good job, Will. I know before hydraulics i was spending about 30min to 1 hour a day hand splitting up stuff and i was good at it. I still hand split when i am on site and just need to get it out and done..😉👍
I don’t see my sticker on the glass yet. Hopefully 🤞 you still have it? If not I can mail it out again. Beautiful walnut, by the way! Time to make some live edge slabs!
You'll enjoy the "exercise" until about 35 and/or when your shoulders start going to hell on ya. I still do a little by hand, w axe, for stress reduction. But I'm 35 flipped around and both shoulders have been on way out for years
A Fiskars X27 seems to be the wood hound maul/splitting axe of choice. The 36" handle might be a little long for you. For straight grained rounds, those put up a decent fight with your Vulcan maul.
Youre supposed to put one round on the other, then axe. And you want to hit the edge till you see a line, then axe out a pie, and then another pie. The middle is the hardest part of the tree and the last piece to axe.

🤣 Yea, right!?!?!?
I’m surprised someone didn’t take them for saw logs in our area a piece like that 8 foot six long would bring about $250-$300
I was thinking the same thing, black gold 🖤
Hey Will, you are pretty handy with that maul. I’ve done my share of spitting by hand in my younger days. Thankful for the splitter I have now.
I agree. I try my darndest to get good at something. Im glad its coming thru on camera
Hey there Will. I just can’t attemp that mauling. To many surgeries for me to go at that. You did well. Keep it up buddy. Take care.
Thanks 👍 yea surgeries will be mean to the body for sure

Agreed. BUT the vulcan is does some great work and who need the exact same tool as EVERYONE else??
Your always up for a Adventure
Absolutely sir!!!

Ill try that next!!!
Getting it done buddy!
Im certainly putting a good college try into it thats for sure
Nice
Thanks!!!
You need to get more value than firewood out of that stuff!
Hello Will, did the same until I was 27, then built my own splitter 👏🤘🏻🪵🇺🇸
I get it. If i could i would. I wish i had more time to learn the skills to do that
