People, Yuzu was only 19 years old, his first Olympics and the nerves got to him. Even after the falls, he skated beautifully. He had the highest score for the short program and added to this one, is the reason he won. The lead off jump with him falling and then slipping out of the other jump seemed bad, but that's not all judges are looking for. His elegance on the ice is unparalleled, his technical prowess of his programs, the speed going in to and out of his jumps, the lines on the ice, his facial expressions, the lines of his beautiful body, his arms, he has the entire package!
it's also important to note that the difficulty of a program and the way the program was created adds points. by lifting arms at certain points or doing more jumps in the second half the points go up. many other skaters landed the jumps that yuzuru didn't, but if you dont have a program that pulls out as many points as possible, it doesnt matter how many jumps you land bc others will do it all.
So many people were complaining about Yuzuru taking gold though he fell twice. It was not his fault that the silver medalist made even more mistakes than he did. It's strange to me because I've always been very sceptic to this sport but whenever I see Hanyu perform, no matter if he falls or does perfectly, he always captivates me with his grace and emotion. Denis Ten, Olympic Bronze medalist at the age of 25, stabbed to death in his country for mindless robbers. A hero for his country and others around the world. Such a tragic death for one who has struggled through so many injuries and hardships for his country to bring pride and help make it a better place. Rest in peace and deepest condolences to his family and everyone who he has ever impacted
Yuzuru broke 100 points with a huge world record in the amazing Short Program. He won the FP against a three time world champion, he did this at 19 years old, bearing the pressure. He won even in the team event his segment. He truly deserved this OGM. He was the best skater in the Sochi competition. Period. He is now in 2020 still pushing and improving after a decade of senior career, 2 OGM, many other medals, 19 records. He is my favorite athlete ever, for me he is the best ever.
For those who complain about Yuzu winning despite falling twice, there are 2 scores: technical score and artistic score, Yuzu may have fallen but improved his other jumps to get better scores and when it comes to the ARTISTIC SCORE, NOBODY DOES IT BETTER THAN YUZU!!! So yes, he deserved to win counting his amazing WR for his SP.
People who said he shouldn't have won because he fell don't understand how figure skating judging works. Someone could've given a flawless performance that is less technically challenging and not win because their technical score may be lower. It's a sport consisting of both artistic and technical sides. In the end, it's a sport. So, to claim someone shouldn't have won because they made a technical mistake, I don't know what to say. Even if I believe his artistic side is awesome, he still got a lower PCS than the silver medalist Patrick Chan. Yuzuru had a stronger technical choreography. Besides, have they not seen the other performances?
Well, people used to dislike Yuzu since he won even if he falled 2 times. But now people write: "He is even more beautiful when he falls". Yuzuru deserves all the love he is getting now. He is and will be Great Of All Times figure skater.
I'm definitely a diehard Yuzuru fan, but Javier's performance was so lively and dynamic and enjoyable to watch! Glad I didn't just watch yuzuru-only clips or I'd have missed a treat
Ohhhh, even Yuzuru’s fall has elegance. His landing are so graceful and oof he smashed it with that beautiful costume. Whoever was the designer behind Yu’s outfit understood the music score and concept of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. I feel like I just went to a play. Bravo!!!
aww it's cute how yuzuru hanyu has that winnie the pooh tissue box cosy, and javier fernandez had a mickey mouse one and they're both coached by brian orser
I remembered in an interview, Tracy talked about their friendship and how they are so nice to each other. Love both of them. What a weird relationship to be both rival and friend under the same coach.
ok, I was practicing cross overs and I stumbled. After that, I spent an hour skating around the rink with shaky legs. The fact that Yuzuru falls in a jump in front of thousands of people, and he still gets back up and skates so beautiful should get him an award in itself. I usually don't watch full performances of ice skaters, but every second that Yuzuru is on the ice, it is captivating. I LOVE YOU YUZURU!!
Patrick Chan's third jump (3A) was landed the same way as Yuzuru's third jump (3F): step-out with hands down. However, Yuzuru's 3F was penalized as a fall with -3 GOE and -1 deduction while Patrick was penalized for a step-out with no deduction. IMO, Yuzuru won this fairly despite the 2 obvious mistakes because Patrick made 4 mistakes- 1. Putting both hands down on the 4T 2) Stepping-out of 3A 3) Popping his 3S into a 2S 4)Stepping out of a 2A.
For a fall it’s not necessary to sit down on the ice. It’s enough that most of the body weight go on something different from the blades. Chan put down two hands, but it’s a very fast movement, Hanyu is almost with the bottom on the ice, and his leg rubs the ice. Is a little difference, but can explain why for Hanyu they’ve marked a fall and for Chan not. Fortunately this point lost isn’t really important for the final standings. Chan has made several mistakes and Hanyu deservedly win.
Yup, thought it was rather harsh for them to mark the 3F as a fall. I would probably give it -2 to -3 GOE, but the fall deduction was uncalled for IMO.
Yuzuru is phenomenal! He skates is his own calm fluid, magical movements! I love watching him perform! He is a dignified awesome skater with talent he hasn’t even begun to capture yet! INCREDIBLE!!
I can't get over the joy of watching Yuzuru's skating. He is a gift from Heaven. At the 2014, 2018 Olympic, the 2015 GPF, the NHK and most currently I watched his amazing skating at the Skate Canada and GPF 2019. Who can impact the world of skating so much as Yuzuru Hanyu, brought in people who would never know figure skating and madly in love with his style, his skating and his talent. Plus he has the look of Angelic body and style ! I am so blessed to live in his era.
@@xo0oz1n The clips were switched and not in order. Yuzuru was not the last one to perform. There was still someone to perform after him. He knew that if they performed better they might take the first place spot.
I bet no one knows how Hanyu almost died in the ice with a freak collision while warming up in an international competition. And yet still performed, did a lot of falls but still managed to get a silver medal. That kid there is mad crazy in love with figure skating whether he is injured or in pain.
This is so beautiful. Watching Yuzuru’s performance, my heart was soothed and I felt that ‘wow, this is what pure Art is!’. Congratulations to all, but he is so expressive, dedicated and pouring Art and feeling into his every performance. I am truly moved to see his passion!
Cuando ves patinar a Yuzuru, te transporta a otro mundo, parece una pluma flotando en el aire, con esa suavidad , esa ligereza en sus movimientos, esa cara de niño travieso, me encanta
The speed is totally different.Hanyu is really faster and faster which means he has such skill to control everything at that speed that others cannot do. The speed make his program thrilling and excited that people will be captured and earnest to know what will happen.
Patrick Chan was so amazing. So proud of him. It may not have been the performance he wished to give; Yuzuru feels the same. His goal this year is to give a performance with no regrets. I hope Patrick Chan can too. They’re both phenomenal

He was carrying a historical burden. Generations of Canadian world champs before him, all had hopes pinned on them. He was arguably the last of them in recent years.
@TitaniumLiquids the silver medalist gets annoyed because they know they were soo close, whereas the bronze medalist is okay, because he knows he gave it is all. He knows he wasnt the better contender that day and accepts bronze (for the comp). The Silver medalist would be most likely dissapointed and go through every detail of his program, until he finds mistakes. He then would either be self-doubting or pissed he almost had it in the bag..
To put this into context, Patrick went into the Olympics as a 3-time reigning World Champion. He just broke the WR at a grand prix prior to the olympics. He had every reason to think that he was the frontrunner. I'm not surprised that he's disappointed. It really was his best chance.
Bloody Olympics, you switched the order how they skated, it is just so annoying because it ruins the experience. Fernandez skated after Machida and Yuzuru skated before Chan. Yuzuru was not happy with his performance because he knew that Chan skated after him and if he skated well then he got the gold. When Chan finished his program, Yuzuru was already backstage, watching the results and that is when he realised he became Olympic champion.
It is just so wrong. If the channel decided to upload the last group (well, almost the whole group) then why didn't they upload in that order how they skated? It is so annyoing, really. It seems like as if Yuzuru just sat there confused, like someone who didn't understand how the scoring system works...Plain wrong.
See him interpreting every musical note...he paints the music with his graceful moves, from head to toe and back, every cell in his body tells the story. That's art! It's his art!
Tatsuki machida is probably tho most underrated skater of the decade. He was definitely the most graceful skater in this competition, and you can tell he knows a thing or two about ballet. It's a shame that he slipped off his edge on the first quadruple toe, otherwise he might've been on the podium. I'm not mad tho, because it let Denis Ten win a medal for his country. Rip Denis, the world of figure skating misses you so much, I wish you were still here.
Ugh this just reminds me what a cursed Olympics Sochi was. So many falls and most skaters look dissatisfied with their performances/scores. LOVED Pyeongchang in huge part because nearly everyone skated marvelously and were beaming in the K&C, happy that they did a good job.
It was said by many at the time that Evgeni Plushenko's medical withdrawal from the men's event, which significantly impacted on audience numbers, rattled the other male skaters and led to some uneven skating in the men's events. Which was too bad all around.
Everybody did well.. Its all hardwork in first place, but this guy yuzuru is something else.... Haven't watch yuri on ice so no comments on that... I just came here for yuzuru. He's cute and is very graceful. Idk how to put it i felt calm and happy watching his performance.
I know next to nothing about figure skating, I'd never even heard of Hanyu, but my best friend and his dad and I went out for dinner the night Hanyu won gold and when we came back to the house, he was just about to start his routine. We decided to sit and watch, and despite having never heard of this guy or seen him or knowing anything about skating, we all decided to root for him because he was the first one we saw. It was only after he won gold that we discovered what a big deal he is. Reply
CaterpillarMaki Great story on how you, your friend and his dad came across Yuzuru Hanyu. It's wonderful you got to watch him, one of the best -- if not the very best -- male skater in history, skate and win gold!🏅🏅🏅 Yep, Yuzuru is very famous and popular in Japan and he is well-known in the skating world. He has many fans in Japan and around the world.
Did you watch his free skate or short program? His short program was mesmerising! A must-watch! Sadly he stumbled in his free program as his right ankle is injured. But he rightly won gold.
I love the fact that in the second half of yuzuru’s performance he skates to “what is a youth”, a song that was played in the 1968 romeo and juliet movie, I would recognize that song anywhere
Патрик был расстроен, что Юзу не дал ему стать Олимпийским чемпионом.Так ведь и разница в оценках была приличная между 1 и 2 местом. все справедливо!Юзу был лучшим!
All skaters work hard and all want success but always one winner.💪💪👍👏👏 Yuzuru is really someone who skates not only to win but It's his passion and he skates with kindness and affection which makes the spectators feel the same intensity as him, it is very rare !!!🙏😍 What class what elegant and talented skater!🤴😍💗
It's so obvious he ain't happy even tho he came first. If u look at the 2018 PyongChang Olympics his face was blooming with joy literally he was such an excited boy, proud that he didn't make any mistake unlike 2014. Im proud of him
SALLY SCHUR not true. he popped his quad salchow into a triple salchow. Then he absent-mindedly did the triple salchow towards the end of the program, which invalidate his triple salchow in accordance with Zayak's rule
I personally really liked Javier's FS this time, but they were all beautiful. Also, I can't believe Patrick was actually apologizing for placing second??? Poor bub.
Yes I came here bc yoi but I'm leaving with a big appreciation for figure skating, I mean damn. Pls don't compare Yuzuru to Yuri tho, pls, respect him, he's not a 2d character.
Frida Sometimes that girls and boys who loves anime, shounen ai or yaoi just act like trash. Stupids. I hate It too, cause they come to Johnny Weir videos and comment the same. Aff. Like, in a video from 2006 one come and writte: História clothes looks like Yuri on Ice one.
You know what? I came here for Yuzuru and of course he was splendid, really, I think he's the greatest But I was pleasantly surprised by Javier Fernandez! He is charismatic, technically good and super fun to watch! I feel like he's a bit belittled because Olympic judges prefere classic-style, super graceful ballerina athletes. Correct me if I'm wrong, I've just started to know this sport.
Chiara Ghiringhelli Olympic does not prefer ballerina athletes. Javi was technically not advanced here. He made lots of technical errors here. Like when he doubled his triple and tripled his quad. And when he broke Zayak rule.
seeing so many comments from yuri on ice, i have to make this comment, even though i am not a fan of that anime. Yuzuru was definitely fantastic. but that anime, at least character by character, is not him--not just the japanese character, but all of them. The japanese yuri was not him at all, character wise, figure wise, or experience wise, but was a combination of Tatsuki Machida(back up from games) and Daisuke Takahashi(his skating character). Russian yuri was after "Yulia Viacheslavovna Lipnitskaia"(a russian female teen skater, but just because she was charming and the writer likes her very much). Yuzuru in real life was way better, beyond awesome, and I am technically not even his fan. so stop saying that he was made into anime.
Man, I kinda agree with you, but this makes it sound like Machi and Dai are hack skaters, which they very clearly are/were not. They're actually awesome too!
This is NOT the full event of the Men's Free Skating; it's only 5 out of the 6 skaters from the final group. Where is Daisuke Takahashi? I don't understand why you cut his performance and change the order of skaters.
Besides both Machida and Ten went in Group 3 (Machida was 11th in the short, 4th in the free, 5th overall. Ten 9th in the short, 3rd in the free and 3rd overall) Asides from Hanyu, Chan, Fernandez and Takahashi, the other 2 in the final group were Jason Brown (6th in the short, 9th overall) and Peter Liebres (5th in the short, can not remember where he finished overall)
And Javier was not perfect, guys. He popped his quad salchow into a triple, and absent-mindedly did a triple salchow again, breaking Zayak's rule and invalidating his triple salchow. So your complaint about unfair judging is invalid. Thanks.

It's a shame that he slipped off his edge on the first quadruple toe, otherwise he might've been on the podium. I'm not mad tho, because it let Denis Ten win a medal for his country. Rip Denis, the world of figure skating misses you so much, I wish you were still here.
Denis, you were not only a talented skater but also a truly inspirational artist. Love you.
Oh no! He was amazing. Elegant like yuzuru.
Я каторая обсолютно не увлеклась фигурным котанием, просто влюбилась в этот вид спорта! Такой изящный, лёгкий и просто супер! Мой кумир Юдзуру Ханю!
Exactly 1 year ago! How nostalgic! That moment I realized how great a man named Yuzuru Hanyu was existing in this world!
Christina vi Britannia yeah 3 yrs ago and ever since I got crazy bout the skating world. 😅
Oh please.

36:45 gave me goosebumps 😢😢
his movements to the music show how much he feels/express the emotions
A brilliant performance for Denis Ten. the best of the evening. RIP Good Man
I LOVE YUZURU HANYU!
PROUD OF YOU.
The grace Yuzuru has... its mind blowing 👑❤
He was perfect in every moment even he falls.
OMG at the last moment when his coach patted him on the back I just melted. Pure kindness and support.
I love the fact that in the second half of yuzuru’s performance he skates to “what is a youth”, a song that was played in the 1968 romeo and juliet movie, I would recognize that song anywhere
he is wonderful he just glide across the ice .so magical
I enjoy listening to Yuzuru's choice of music. It me reminded me "Time for Us."
All skaters work hard and all want success but always one winner.💪💪👍👏👏
Yuzuru is really someone who skates not only to win but It's his passion and he skates with kindness and affection which makes the spectators feel the same intensity as him, it is very rare !!!🙏😍
What class what elegant and talented skater!🤴😍💗
It's so obvious he ain't happy even tho he came first.
If u look at the 2018 PyongChang Olympics his face was blooming with joy literally he was such an excited boy, proud that he didn't make any mistake unlike 2014.
Im proud of him
can y'all yoi fans stop saying that these fictional characters could do a better job please ? that's incredibly insulting to these real life skaters
Javier was absolutely amazing !!
Martinha Isabel Yes, but no medal. There were no judges from Spain!
SALLY SCHUR not true. he popped his quad salchow into a triple salchow. Then he absent-mindedly did the triple salchow towards the end of the program, which invalidate his triple salchow in accordance with Zayak's rule
Me too
Title: *YUZURU HANYU WINS THE GOLD*

凄いね~何度でも云います。こんな素晴らしいスケートは見た事が無い‼️
I personally really liked Javier's FS this time, but they were all beautiful.
Also, I can't believe Patrick was actually apologizing for placing second??? Poor bub.
Великолепный!!!❤❤❤
The glorious moment for Asian ancestors to be proud!
Japanese, Chinese and Korean on one pedestal - how interesting is that?!?:0😍
Saida Naryssova If Korean as notas There, would be better. Kpop is a bad influence for the world.
Lee Tzia bih what
Sorry, my corrector is the worst! I try to write: If South Korea was not there it would be better.

Denis skated so perfectly, beautiful performance ;-;
Yes I came here bc yoi but I'm leaving with a big appreciation for figure skating, I mean damn.
Pls don't compare Yuzuru to Yuri tho, pls, respect him, he's not a 2d character.
Frida good point, sadly lots of other fans don't think like that. Good u do, tho! Have a nice day!

I love yuzuru x javi

yuzuru hanyu legend
Hanyu has the pure passion!!
yuzu is so cute
Tatsuki Machida, really give his outmost best. It was beautiful. Bravo! 👏
all he bothered was about the points he lost in reduction, when the whole lot was cheering him for the gold!!! true sportsmanship 😊
Жаль, что Хавьер остался без медали(А у Юдзуру самая интересная и красивая программа.Еще маленькие оценки за компоненты и презентацию получил!
Юдзуру -великолепный!!!!❤❤❤
You know what? I came here for Yuzuru and of course he was splendid, really, I think he's the greatest
But I was pleasantly surprised by Javier Fernandez!
And when he broke Zayak rule.
timestamp for Yuzuru Hanyu 32:21 this is just a note to self
i love yuzu sm
R.I.P. DENIS TEN. You will Never Be Forgotten 🌟⛸️⛸️🙏🏻⛸️⛸️🌟
my eyes were only on Yuzuru Hanyu.
rip Denis Ten. such a tragic death...
seeing so many comments from yuri on ice, i have to make this comment, even though i am not a fan of that anime.
葛嘉奕 THANKS
Pressure was everywhere. They all did a good job, all of them.
So true💯♥️♥️
P'win😍
37:59 I love Yuzuru's smile.
This is NOT the full event of the Men's Free Skating; it's only 5 out of the 6 skaters from the final group. Where is Daisuke Takahashi? I don't understand why you cut his performance and change the order of skaters.
He didn't performed because injury
@@niamaryam5456 Nope, Daisuke did perform. This was his last Olympics as a competitive men's figure skater.
Thanks.
