I wish the storyline had more of Goslings role. But, appreciate the directors ambitious story telling ,trying to capture the consequences of choices across generations in a sub 3 hour movie. Brilliant background music. seamlessly accentuates the mood of the film

It really really pained me to see what a person would do for his children when my father doesnt even know how To spell my name , day I was born he got engaged to a 17 year old, he was 33 , wasnt by choice on his part, was arranged, but still his son arent I, once i got stuck in a town near him, split up with the mrs, had no money it went on Bill's, i could even put fuel in my car, i did something i promised I would never do and asked him for 20quid , 2 hours i sat in the back of his car him an his wife talking to me about responsibility for 2 hours, i sat threw it cos i needed the money, then he gave it to me and then i had my ten min, about everything they just said saying well since is the 11th time iv seen u in 25 years and the first penny iv ever taken from u, get fucked and walked out.
It just showed me what parents do for their kids and ripped my heart out
Have to say tho on flip side my mother is batman in my eyes, theres nothing she wouldn't do, and unfortunately I cant give her the only thing she wants and that's a child , fucking cruel world eh😔

Seriously underrated movie, the way it shows how lives can cross and leave devastating consequences was amazing and heartfelt.
And the concept of robbing banks on dirtbikes is such a cool what if, concept for a movie.

This movie's about fathers, sons and consequences and how the choices you make will shape your life from years to come. the boy in the film had trouble identifying with himself, which is why he was misguided into doing all sorts of things including drugs and crime, you can't escape who you are through genetics passed down from your parents, but you always have a choice, a choice that can take you further in life. For the boy, the right choice will bring him a brighter future, a future that will bring him to the right place, a place away from the sins of his father, a place beyond the pines..

10 years later and this movie still doesn't get the recognition it deserves. A melancholic masterpiece that depicts corruption, poverty, breaking generational curses and overcoming grief.
Also, Ryan Gosling deserved an Oscar for his acting here, he made u feel his character's pain and regret. You empathize with him and you root for him to redeem himself. Every scene he was in was perfection.

I just finished watching this movie and I came straight here to see what others thought of it. I thought it was incredible, it totally blew me away. I got more and more engrossed in it as the film went on and I didn't want it to end. It would be amazing if there were to be a sequel made, I want to know what happened to Jason in his life after he bought the bike at the end and rode off.
This is a masterpiece in my opinion, I love movies like this. Movies that have that neo-noir feel to them, that are slow and captures the emotion and tries to tell a story that means something and continuously draws you in. and those movies that have those intertwining/linking plots that kinda makes you feel like you're solving a mystery along with the characters. It totally beats 90% of the the big budgeted Hollywood garbage.

The inspiration in 'The Place Beyond the Pines' is that it rejects glamor and wealth from the very beginning without really needing an audience to begin with. You on the other hand become the spectator, in which the scenes are cut raw from the root of rural American life. Its a fantastic film which I think has gone under estimated in cinema.
Amazing Film. I'll recommend it to every soul on the planet.

I’ve meant people in the real world less “believable” then him, so why should that matter how believable someone is for a movie if people in the real world are sometimes less real. Plus, what movies from him have you seen? Have you seen drive? blade runner? only god forgives?

Dude I am addicted watching Ryan Gosling movies. There is something about him that takes me to different universe. Movie Drive, Blade Runner and now this. God this is too much to handle bois. He gives that mysterious spiritual energy that draws you to him.

This film really made me see the side of desperate criminals like I never have before. It felt like he had no other choice. I could identify with that feeling of money answering all of your problems and just feeling like you’d never have access to any real life changing cash without taking desperate measures. He was talented in his own way and could have been a stunt man or something. The saddest part of the movie for me was when he called before getting shot and asked for his son to never know about him because he was ashamed and would’ve wanted him to be proud of him. Mendez character loved him so much too. All in all pretty heart breaking film 💔

This movie had me bawling when I watched it back in 2015. It was and still is my favourite. I never found another movie that stirred my emotions and haunted me like this one did. And also the soundtrack - The Snow Angel by Mike Patton

No, the trailer barely spoils anything.
I first saw this film at TIFF and instantly fell in love with it.
I do think it has problem tho. It's one of those rare occasions where with a near 2 and a half hour runtime, it could have maybe used another 20 or so minutes... third act kinda feels rushed for what it was trying to do.
BUT having said that... I would take "over ambitious " over complacent ANY day of the week.
On top of that, by the end of the film you do really feel the things your supposed to feel...
This is one of those films that I have, since the first time I saw it, thought about damn near every week and is probably my favorite film of all-time!

Saw this in theaters when it came out, think about it often but only watch it every now and then cause it's just one of those movies that gives you that gut wrenching feeling start to finish every single time. Super deep movie.. has to be one of the most thought/feeling invoking ones of the century so far

Man, I don't know why, but this movie just works for me so well. I have never seen a movie that could convey emotions of characters and the general atmosphere so well. Honestly had this feeling of gloom and depression throughout most of the film, which I mean in a good way. No other movie has ever been able to affect me so much emotionally. Again, I cannot pinpoint exactly what makes this movie so great, but it just is. Also the fact that it stars Ryan Gosling definitely doesn't hurt.
Still re watch this movie every few months. Extremely underrated
