I have both and always picking up the Aries. It’s just so comfortable and fits best with cap, Shokz headphone or ear covers. It has better grip for sunglasses as well. I love the MAAP Protone Icon dark gray purple strap color way but it’s sold out everywhere.
Hey Andy, good review. I've been riding Giro helmets exclusively since 2009 and have had the detachable liner pads on every Giro helmet split open within the shortest amount of time. I sweat moderately and assume it's the salt causing the problem. Have you had a similar experience and do you periodically rinse the pads? It's frustrating because the helmet is perfectly usable but I keep on having to order replacement pads, which adds up when a set of pads lasts about 6 months.
If the Giro isn't working for you, we have lots of helmet options - the Specialized Prevail 3 is one of the safest options out there and fits similarly to the Aries. Contact one of our Gearheads to find the right helmet for you!
I was debating on getting a KASK Protone helmet as my next helmet after owning a Giro Aries. After watching the review, I'm going to skip the KASK Protone because of the shape and ear adjustment strap.
giro is too oval for my head, but love knowing how safe it has tested. Kask fits perfect but I always question its safety while I'm wearing it, wish Virginia tech would test the protone.
I just tried on both at the store along with 2 POC helmets and a Lazer helmet. I ALMOST bought the Lazer, felt so good but also liked the Kask. But because the kask was more aero I chose it over the Lazer.

Have both, Aries is my go to. Admittedly, i live in a very hot and humid climate so ventilation takes precedence over aero in my case use.

Hmmm. No, but I always wear a cap. You might just have more solids in your sweat - do you have the same issue with bar tape?
Absolutely love my Giro Aries
I have both. Both are extremely good. But personally I prefer the protone icon

We're also curious how VT would rate the Protone. The Sweet Protection Falconer and the Specialized Prevail 3 are safe and cool looking options!

Kask is the way to go.
MIPS in the Kask?
The Kask doesn't have MIPS
So Kask are for those c-section folks.
Tambien prefiero el casco giro aries .. el mejor de todos
