i have this helmet in this color, i can't speak for it's safety (luckily) but it is also incredibly comfortable and by far the most stylish helmet in my opinion
extremely good review and i found with a 57cm head i could not get close to having a skull cap on with this helmet so no good in winter. The low bands sitting low was another thing i didnt like- thank you
This is one of the best helmet reviews I have seen. I wish others reviewers and manufactures would post the helmet measurements. I was about to purchase this helmet but i have 2nd thoughts. Do you know if the giro Helios is just as narrow?
i like the look of it! i'll probably wait until it goes on sale--but i'm a pretty slow biker right now, maybe if i can push real speed i need to invest in one of these
Thanks, finding it on sale would be a great idea. If you have a medium helmet size, compare the width of yours to this one since the Aries runs a bit narrow. Or better yet, if you find a place to try it on that'll be the best (all of my local bike shops didn't carry this model on the floor).
You DO NOT put sunglasses under helmet straps. You put the helmet on and wear sunglasses over it. Otherwise you’re risking having them in your eyes if crashed.
Cyclists wear them over so the glasses have a chance to come off in the event of a crash and keep sponsors happy. Triathletes wear them under so they can take their helmet off in transition and keep the glasses on. I use cat ears wind blockers so I can't put them over the straps.
You got most of the points compared to when I tried the helmet. I did not like it and didn't get it. The above the ear section was awful! The helmet comes really close to your ear and then the retention strap part digs into the side of my head that low which is not comfortable especially once you consider sunglasses need a place for their arm. And the helmet did not fit my headshape at all. You are on point with it being too narrow on the sides, maybe that is to suit Asian heads that other helmets suck at accommodating or its for aero reasons? Either way don't like it. The VIR tech rating is one of its claims but after looking at their published stats and the wide range of helmets not on the list and other purported top helmets on there you can get a safety rated helmet that would score highly in their tests that hasn't been published or even grab a helmet that does score highly but not number one.
Thank you for your comments. Yes there are many other top rated helmets, some that could fit wider head shapes, and unfortunately this is not it. My guess for the narrowness is less frontal area so it's more aero. Also, more narrow = less material = less weight. But, that's just a guess.
