Just got the original @$175. It's one of the lightest and most secure-feeling helmet I've ever tried....and I've tried a few. Also, very easy to get adjusted properly.
I almost got that one but decided to go with xnito, it was cheaper and had more safety

Thks for the clip and comparison u are mentioning that both helmets are the same price, in real life in none place or site they are at the same price, the icon is expensive in 30-40 euros !!
The updated retention system on the new Protone icon is garbage. It fails straight away, basically falls apart after 1st use. Check reviews from retailers. Everyone is sending them back. I've asked Kask about this but they've failed to respond other than asking me where I'm from. I'm a big fan of Kask having saved me from serious injury a few times. My original Protone has been brilliant. I'll be saving myself a load of cash and sticking with the original at a discounted price.

Just returned mine to my LBS on 6/24 after they advised Kask is recalling them. No estimate on turnaround time for the repair. This is my first Kask, and the fit is phenomenal, but we'll see how good it turns out to be. The decision to buy a higher-end helmet included the expectation that this kind of thing wouldn't happen.

@@hchernandez03 I contacted my LBS 7/15/22 to ask if Kask had provided any information on when the repaired/upgraded helmets would be back in. Kask has said nothing, and the shop employee was clearly frustrated. I was apparently not the first regular customer to inquire. The two shop employees I deal with are gravel riders and use Kask helmets, and my purchase was based not only on fit, but on their success with the brand. They're a bit embarrassed on top of everything else.
As we're going on a month here, and my old helmet is 6+ years old, I ended up buying a POC Omne Air MIPS, which has an excellent dial-in fit around the head. It's not as sexy as the Protone and the straps are a little quirky, but it's a solid unit and is half the price.

Just bought the old version for $145 and think it’s a bargain compared to $300 for the icon. Updated but is it better? Doubt it.

Quick question what is your head circumference? I’m 58,5 cm and I don’t know which size works for me…

Any chance you've had issues with the tightening ratchet system breaks on you? I've read more than a few reviews where people say one day all of a sudden the helmets doesn't tighten. I really like how it looks and want to get one but not if it has that issue.

I had the old one. Have they improved 2 things. Firstly the build quality, in no time at all plastic pad parts of the rear cradle fell off, the backing to some of the helmet padding came away and wouldn’t stick. And one of the KASK letters fell off. But worse than that it funnelled sweat into my eyes like no other helmet. I hear the cradle falls apart even more now. And dont even try putting sunglasses into them.
I have 2 old ones, both matte finish. The lettering seems to have been updated on the most recent one I bought and is now more secure. I also had issues with bits falling off the rear cradle on the first one but the second one I bought has given me no problems. Was going to buy the icon when I got my second Protone but decided against it after reading lots of complaints about the new dial falling to bits.
was looking to see how its looks and not mushroomy on ur head. It would have helped if u demoed the right fit for u

58 cm should choose M or L , thanks

Just received M for my 58 cm head. Turns out my head shape is too long, so the helmet shell puts pressure in the rear of my head, so I'll have to return it for an L, maybe Prevail. Otherwise it's comfy as hell, shame!

Does the new buckle fits the old protone?
I don't think so, it's a completely new redesign.

An awful lot of complaints about that buckle. I can’t part with my ‘hard earned’ for what just might be a dodgy lid. It doesn’t have MIPS either you say? Ooo eck’.

It's one of the ugliest helmets ever to me, but people keep buying coz pros are wearing them.
