  • Double your sales on eBay...sound too good to be true? Well, it's not! But you do have to be willing to spend a little more money to make a lot more. I did this with eBay's Promoted Listings. Even if you've tried promoted listings in the past, or are hesitant to pay eBay more money, give this video a watch... you may learn something new. Thanks for watching!

    Fairly new to reselling and I knew about promoted listings but never wanted to pay more fees! Never realized that 2% would do the trick. I turned promoted listings on at 2% last week just like you explained and my sales have literally DOUBLED! Very cool, thanks so much for sharing this!

    I just unpromoted all my listings, now I'm going back and turning them all back on to 2%. I find it best to make changes constantly. I change descriptions, pictures, promotions, etc. It seems to drive traffic to "look" at least. People with big stores don't have time to do this. They list it and forget it! I can barely get up 250 items, lol. Working on it every day though.

      dont do that. it makes you look indecisive and that will stir buyers away when they see something and then by chance you change it an hour later they come back like huh ohh wait its the same but now its listed different hmmmm idk now..... no kid dont do that. revise old listings with new photos lower price. your welcome

    Great video and explanation of promoting. Ive found a lot of people get stuck on paying ebay a couple additional points on a sale rather than look8 g at the larger picture you clearly illustrated with how an extra $800 netted you over $40k in sales.
    Advanced is very good for items where you have multi-quantity.
    I've been promoting for the last 3 or 4 years and can attest to everything you laid out here. I'm at about $175k gross annually, with roughly 60% of my sales coming via ads.

    • @johndough23

      ya well not near a typical sellers volume. Most sellers are not grinders willing to take silly low prices because they do not have the volume to make up the lower prices. eBay could careless apparently. It's a race to the bottom and they are going to crash in spectacular fashion.

    Came here from HairyTornado's video. I've now watched several of your videos and have to say, you definitely won a subscription based on your content, as opposed to just because they gave you a shout out.
    I've only promoted items a few times, because the concept of giving even more money to EBay made me squeamish. But having watched this, I'm going to give it another go and throw a 2% on all items I have that are over a certain price threshold.
    Hopefully I'll have the same results!
    Keep up the awesome content!

    Just came across your videos, watched a few of them already, really love your content, your explanation of actual money you intend to profit! Even thought I know the sold comps aren’t profit it’s nice to hear someone break it all down quickly and using a rough value of 60% profit on most items sold - your giving me some insight on maybe stepping up my game a little bit better to not get so overwhelmed and over purchasing items and taking it a lot slower with more details and being more accurate with my paperwork
    Thanks so much! Glad I found you 🎉

    • @justinresells

      Glad you found me, too! Thanks for watching. 60% is a good rough estimate based on my own data, but be sure to calculate your own as it is highly dependent on a number of variables. But it's good to have a rule of thumb when I am out sourcing to know that if something is selling at $100 including shipping that I will make roughly $60 after all fees.

    Now ebay has a 30 day trigger..... if you promote an item and someone clicks on it but doesn't buy. Then you take the item OFF PROMOTEd listing .... the customer comes back a week later if it's within 30 DAYS. You will have to pay your promoted fee. This just happened to me.
    ........ here is the Ebay quote
    .........You’re only charged if a buyer clicks on your promoted listing or on the heart icon to add an item to their watchlist and then purchases any of your Promoted Listings Standard items within 30 days.

    Promoting my listings has done absolutely nothing for my sales. I've tried 2%, I've tried 13%. It does not guarantee a higher rank in the listings. It does not guarantee more exposure. It only guarantees eBay will make even more money from you if your item sells. I'm a Top Rated seller, and an (almost) 25-year eBay veteran with a consistent 100% feedback. I'm glad promoted listings works for you, but it doesn't work for everybody - which just shows how inconsistent and screwed up eBay is now. There are plenty of other sellers - especially long-haulers - who have noticed the same thing.

    • @justinresells
      @justinresells  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      Thanks for watching and sharing! You're right, promoted listings aren't necessarily a silver bullet and it's best to try it out and see if it works for your business specifically. My guess is that it has a lot to do with what you're selling. For example, if an item just doesn't have much demand, promoting it is not going to make it more in demand. Promotions work best when both demand and supply is high.

    • @kld70
      @kld70 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don’t consider myself knowledgeable on eBay, but it sounds like promoted listings may not be helping you boost sales because your good business practices were causing the algorithms to place your listings at the top anyways. It doesn’t sound like exposure is holding back your sales. Perhaps look to other metrics like selection, pricing and display to increase your revenue. And by all means, keep up the excellent customer service. As for eBay’s faults, remember you’re paying for access to the marketplace, a/k/a foot traffic so offer customer support suggestions but temper them with a realization of the intense operational needs of a huge platform. There’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes to make this marketplace a reality. It’s not easily maintained or recreated and deserves some slack. I, for one, appreciate that someone else has put in all the knowledge and work to create a place where I can buy and sell with strangers all over the world. I definitely wouldn’t have ever figured out how to do that on my own. Thanks for sharing. Be well and prosper. ❤

    Nothing personal but I do not believe 2% moves the needle at all. Particularly for clothing 3:20 . Suggested fees are up to 16%+ now. The algorithm sneezes at 2%. If it were only that easy. At 2% better have free shipping, lowest price and be a top seller to make a difference. Just my experience after 23 years. peace

    The best results I've gotten, is selling Antiques, and Collectibles. I've tried some clothing, and shoes, and did TERRIBLE. Promoted listings are driving many Sellers broke. If you are doing 20% Promoted on shirts, then you are paying Ebay around 35%. That's ALOT of money overall. I buy more unique or limited items. As such, the most I do is 5%. Might take awhile for a collector to buy my item, but I prefer that, than making $2 an item in Flooded Categories. My profit margin is very good on items. Profit margin should be what people need to concern themselves with, not how many sales they make.

      Nah. You need to put in work if you want to make money. Sell 100 things making $15 each in a month, or sell 2 things making $200 each in a month. More work more money.

    One problem that I have come across is when looking at the active listings let’s say they say there are 200 of them and the sold listings are 100. It really doesn’t matter on the sold listings for what I’m talking about. Anyway, going back to the 200 that are active. Sometimes they’re not the exact thing that you typed in but yet they still counted as a number for the active listings so you can’t always get an accurate number. I hope that made sense.

    • @justinresells
      @justinresells  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, that is a problem for sure! I find that I often have to get more granular with my search if the results are showing a wide mix of related items. For example, always search for the model number if the item has one. Also, filter by the condition -- new or used. That helps you get more specific results. Thanks for watching!

    • @pkzenk2158
      @pkzenk2158 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Doing the “quick and dirty” on Comps (i.e. NOT going granular as Justin rightly points out is even more important most of the time), when you’re under the gun at your sourcing location - is required due diligence… as in checking out an unfamiliar (usually vintage) brand, just to get a feel for if it’s a grand slam or an ass brand.

      Not a pallet supplier or anything. I just made a good connection. I went to buy some stuff off Facebook Marketplace from a lady. When I got to her house, it was clear she was also a reseller. She regularly got pallets from some place that she wouldn't tell me for obvious reasons. But she was bringing in more than she could sell so she agreed to offload certain pallets to me. I work with her every few months, which is about all I can handle doing this part-time. My point in tell this story is: make connections! You never know who is going to help you out like that. The main issue I have with ebay promoted listings is - we sellers are not told exactly what we are getting for what we pay. We're not informed on the algorithms. Seems at 2% what I do see is my 'sponsored' thumbnail photo shows up twice on the same page. Not sure what advantage that is? So what does 3%, 4%, 5% get me in promotions? Pick a % - it's all a guessing game. I've done no PL and 2-3% PL and can't say I see much difference. If everyone promotes, basically we've all just upped our fees. And if other sellers promote at higher rates than me, my listings are downgraded anyway. It does feel somewhat like extortion, so my listings are not hidden, and in conclusion, that would lean me towards paying, though reluctantly.

    Great clear cut information. I would suggest promoting those other items because what you arent factoring in is that ebay will show the item if its similar. For example with thise flags, if someone searched that team name with decor, ebay might also show that flag, leading to a sale. A little deeper if someone searched 1940s wall clock, theyll show a promoted similar item like a 1940s model car because they didnt have many results for the clock. Just my 2 cents. Ebay wants to make that extra money 😂

    Do you have weekly or monthly sale events? And if so, do you also use promoted listings on those items? I have sale events every weekend. And mark my items down 15 to 25%. So, I am thinking if I am willing to give that much of a discount then giving 2 or even 5% to eBay might make more sense for me. To be honest I would rather give the customer the discount but if my sales increase then I need to rethink my weekend sales events.

  • @goldengriffon

    I'm not so sure the effect is as great as the chart suggests. For one, you never know which of those promoted sales would have been a sale anyway even if you had not promoted it. Combined with that, the months of your double sales are typically higher sales month than average; it'd be better to see the data compared to the same months of the prior year (but it seems you don't have that much data on this store yet). I've been largely cutting promoted listings off of my items, and although impressions have obviously reduced quite a bit it hasn't been affecting my actual sales. Indeed, my conversion rate has slightly increased. So it appears, for me, that most of the promotions were showing items to buyers who weren't going to buy from me anyway.

      @justinresells  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

  • @cathyeller5722

    The problem is when most of your sells are promoted, and they are as high as 10 percent. Your now paying ebay almost 25 percent of every sell. Mercari then becomes cheaper to sell your items on. They are feeing themselves out of business. Now, with the way they have promoted set up with the new rules if someone clicks one of your items last Tuesday then decides to buy a different item from you that isn't promoted you get hit with the same promoted fee. If you sell on ebay just go ahead and know up front your going to lose a quarter of you sell to ebay. It's heavy and it's glass, now take into consideration that it shipped to the other side of the country, and the taxes are more expensive. You spending more on shipping supplies and the fee's are on shipping and taxes. Fee's can cost can go as high as 35 percent. Some things are no longer worth selling on the ebay platform. I would rather have my items get me more profit on a slower site such as Mercari rather than just hand ebay money.

    • @justinresells

    When Ebay started this promoted listings scam just few years ago the highest (suggested rate) was 4 or 5% with 1% minimum, now the minimum is 2% and as high as 14% just imagine in coupe of years seeing this suggested rate reach 40 or 50% and of course this percentage includes the price plus tax just like all other fees

    • @johndough23
      @johndough23 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      On the way to that..in my panel almost all the suggested numbers are 11.8%. the BIG problem here is our old LISTINGS are now polluted with low ball comps. The chances or yours selling now is greatly reduced even if a customer finds your listing. Most buyers are NOT doing the due diligence on comparing quality. They assume, since Ebay suggested a like item...the Shirt say, is the same like new the one I am looking at....wrong. But by the time they have clicked away to the junk shirt they are off to another suggested ad.

    What do you think about promoted listings on niche catagories? Vintage niche especially. I think items in these type of catagories may already have built in buyers in the collectors of said niche. I guess you gain new customer collectors by promoting but otherwise i wonder if promoted are needed. What do ya'll think?

      I am a reseller of both collectibles and several niche catagories. I pay 2% promoted rate on 2000 items. Rarely is anything RARE and HTF. I am competing with other listings. If I feel I have a HOT item that will sell quickly then I might wait a week to promote that item. I have tried everything for extended periods and have personally decided that I get more sales when I promote.

    I promte all my listings at 2% some At 3-5% but after me and several sellers did not see any difference at all the same if not less but do your math. It does not help me to promote higher I always get the same results. Sorry I see no proof positive "YET"! maybe I am doing something wrong but After seeing a interview with a engineer he stated and also the interview on national show the person interviewed said that the only reason the promoted rate is for the Stockholders to regain profits . This is what i saw . Has no proof of that as well. Your guess is as good as mine but I do study this a lot and In depth.
