    Hi Caleb! I'm 1:35 in and had to start the comment. LOL!
    Tip #1: Have a pen while reading. I am so glad to hear there is at least one other person on the planet that does this. I have attention issues, (very frustrating) so I find that taking notes while reading is critical. I do the same thing with sermons, lectures, and videos. I intend to take your Plod method to heart. Great content!

    Just give up is a great piece of advice. I would also add, it’s okay not to finish.
    Sometimes, especially if reading non fiction, you can’t tell where the argument is going, you feel like you’ve pulled out most of the meaning from the text but the author wants to expand to even more points. It’s okay to say ‘I have the gist, I want to be that generalist, not finishing is okay’

    You might be my favorite TH-cam commentator. Commentator is a description that is unworthy of you. I don’t know the correct description. Guru. Teacher. Wiseman. Any way, you’re terrific. I hope you end up with millions of followers. For now, you have a few thousand and me! 🙂

    I'm just discovering you, but I'd like to see a video on what you feel to be a good representation of those 300 (preferably without something that is just a classic books library).

    1. keep a pen in hand
    2. PLOD - 1 page a day produces results eventually
    3. Be curious about everything for its own sake - not to mine quotes or winning arguments
    4. It's okay to give up on books - sometimes it just ain't for you. Sometimes it is you.
    Thanks Caleb! feeling motivated

    Right on! “The heart of curiosity” is so integral for reading. The childlike wonderment is truly what keeps the soul hungry for literature. Thanks for the video; it’s very practical and extremely helpful. Keep up the good work!

    I keep notebooks as I'm reading too, always did, but have to stop putting notes of DIFFERENT books into the same notebook and not writing where I got the quote from. Many years ago I wanted to use some old notes in notebooks for something I wanted to put up in a web blog - but I had never wrote down the author's name. (I did that a lot). Luckily, at some point I , in a very old notebook that I'd never thrown out, luckily I HAD jotted down his name. Pierre Van Den Berghe. I discovered his book Sociobiology many years ago, and it totally changed the way I think about evolution. Now that it's back to school time, I'm going to buy about 15 notebooks in a dollar store, medium sized - each one for a different book. Make sure I put the title and author on the cover and ONLY put notes for that book in the notebook. Thank you for this very, very helpful video. Greatly appreciated. BTW if you are ever looking for a really great and thought-provoking book to discuss in a video, I would suggest Sociobiology by Pierre Van Den Berghe.

    I love tip #5: “if you see a business deal too good to be true, don’t click on it”
    You won’t be scammed out of money, thereby giving you more to spend on books!

    I think that plotting is an excellent point, and something I hadn't really considered before. Funny enough, I set up a recurring transfer through online banking to help build up my savings account. But plotting as an idea, though being much of the same idea, hadn't occurred to me. Thanks, Caleb!

    1) Thanks for the good word. I've had City of God on my shelf for a decade and have yet to muscle through it. Which, I'm guessing City of God would be in the Three Hundred Books you mentioned?
    2) Where can I find the other 299?
    3) But (hot take) I hope Pilgrim's Progress isn't on there because I'll go to my grave believing It's Not Me, It's The Book w/r/t Pilgrim's Progress.

    Do you write/underline in the books you read? I see a lot of readers do that. Would that have the same benefit for you?

    Thanks for sharing your tips! Do you keep separate notebooks when reading multiple books, or just keep appending to the same one?

  • @atanas-nikolov
    @atanas-nikolov 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I'd give the tip of trying audiobooks. There's a "learning curve" there, but I read most my fiction that way. It works well for less technical non-fiction too, though depending on the book I still prefer to read it, if I want to mine it for knowledge and takeaways.

      Do you use audible or something else? I have online school this year and I think an audio book would be good while writting notes.

    • @atanas-nikolov
      @atanas-nikolov 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FirstNameLastName-is6yb Audible is great, but you don't have to depend solely on them. Though 9 out of 10 times they probably have the best price. But you also have Storytel, where you don't own the books but is kinda like the Netflix of audiobooks. I prefer it, to be honest. Though they have a smaller catalog, it keeps getting bigger.

    Can't bring myself to read one book at a time......
    Normally I'm reading at least 8 at the same time. Currently I'm working on 12.
    And i'm not referring to fiction.
    Don't care much for storytelling in book form.

    Hey Caleb, have you heard Dr. Brant Pitre's book "Jesus and The Last Supper"? As I type this comment, I'm at the last chapter. I really think it's a great book. Would love for you to read it and give a review on it here on your channel.

    Do Slaughterhouse Five or maybe Kurt Vonnegut as a writer.
