Hey Bob. Now you're getting into my field of expertise - tools with 2-stroke infernal combustion engines! :-)
Not a bad intro for Noobs. Running it at 10 to 1 fuel mix for anything more than the first short run will oil up the plug fairly quickly but never run at less than 25 to 1 (20mls to 1/2L). It's easier to change the plug than the motor. ;-) Also never run the motor lean (or completely out of fuel) - a good way to burn the piston exhaust side. If it's not 4-stroking at max revs no load increase the high speed mixture.
Current Workplace Health and Safety wisdom is to have the rear handles designed to have your boot through it & start securely on the ground. Or clamp the rear handle between your legs & start standing - easier on the arthritic old bones but hard on the family jewels!
The Chinese copiers of Stihl/Honda etc generally engineer their products down to the bare minimum of metal/plastic so if you're going to be using a chainsaw/concrete saw/weed-eater/hedge trimmer every day buy a name brand. But for casual home use there's no way you can justify the extra expense. Treated gently these will do nicely - and if they do crap-out borrow your neighbour's. ;-)

Hi mate, thanks for the advice. Useful. I have a bit of experience with two strokes too, outboard engines for 40 years, paramotor, motorbikes. Someone gave me an old outboard that hadn't been used for 20 years. Aircooled which is unusual. Managed to get it going and eventually sold it cheap to a mate as it was too big for my dinghy. The old Seagull outboards used to recommend 10 - 1 and they lasted 25 years of use. They later said 20 - 1 was OK. My outboard and paramotor are 50 - 1. I always check plug colour as a guide to mix and running. the 40 year old motorbike, good old Honda, is 4 stroke! Absolutely agree with your comments. If doing it for a living best to buy a big name, but used with respect I reckon this should see me out ! It looks nicely made. I'm 72 next month so know about aches and pains. I struggled to get out of bed after attacking the lylandi hedge! See ya.

PS I wondered if I was being daft making a review of this, but hopefully someone will find it useful. £80 was a lot cheaper than everything else I saw on the market! And I don't like borrowing tools.

Treated Gently? I assume you mean never use it as simply starting it and restarting it 100 times a day will break it since the most important starting components are made badly and from cast monkey metal, made not to last intentionally so you buy another and another and ew! Please people, buy a proper one for the extra few bucks it costs or even a known brand used one is better than this garbage.

@@sheepishbuffalo6180 For an average domestic user like me it's done me well? That's all I can say. I don't have 200 metres of hedging to keep under control though!

Always use the ratio stated in the manual . The more oil in the mix the less fuel there is to burn and as jet sizes are fixed she'll run weak and as a consequence "Hot". Not what you want with a tight new engine, you'll sieze it up. Many moons ago my mate siezed his Yam 350 on a frosty morning, no fault of his but down to Yamaha jetting the carbs spot on (for 15 c air temp) but cold air is denser so more air molecules per gobfull = weak. Other makers used 10% rich at the cost of a tiny bit of power but avoiding the sieze.

Hey Bob I’ve just purchased the gardentec hedge trimmer with pole and small chainsaw attachment.
How is this machine getting on two years later? Mine was from Trago mills Newton as well. I can’t justify a 600.00 pound investment or even to hire one every year when it’s done and dusted for the next two years for 99 quid. The man at Trago said the first ones they had were terrible and a lot were returned. But the second batch they had only one was returned. So fingers crossed.

Still going strong! I make sure I lube it well with a spray of duckoil whenever I put it away after use. If you look after stuff it pays off. Only domestic use of course, I guess if you were doing this stuff for a living maybe you'd need something with a big name?
