Thanks for the best tips. Its kept the water out of my Ford Fiesta, so far so good. This was incredibly helpful, I'm about to about to sell one of these C1s to my mother in law, and thanks to a bit of rain the past couple of days, I realised that re-fitting the top half of the boot seal wasn't enough to solve my leak as the headliner was soaking wet and a puddles had formed in the boot and wheel well (AGAIN)... Thankfully I came across your video, so I sealed up the brake light and the two larger tail lights with clear silicone, so fingers crossed that's solved the problem. Keep up the good work
My Aygo had water leaking into the boot but fixed it after doing the same thing but on the top brake light, love the channel, im watching all your repair vids even though my Aygo hasn't got those problems, you never know...

Adhesion to the metal of the body, I think, will be much better than to the dirty seal of foam rubber. It does not degrease does not work, and rubbed the metal with a degreaser. It turned out well. To speed up the drying warmed with a hair dryer. Now you can remove the lamp and quickly put it back when you need it. I wish you success! Thanks for sharing - this could really help me as I have a 106 which is leaking in badly at the back on the passenger side. My husband keeps saying, ' get rid of it' but I love this little car, no tax, low insurance, low on fuel and easy to park. I can get all my cash carry stuff in it if I put seats down. So I will definitely investigate the light fittings - thanks again.

Thank you very much for your helpful video. I had water in the boot and damp rear seats. I have siliconed my rear light seals and just waiting for the silicone to set. No surprises thanks to your handy video . Merry Christmas.
Brilliant video thank you and just frustrating you have to go to this trouble for this car in the first place. Very clear instructions and really appreciated.
Aha..... guess what we'll be doing at the weekend!!! Been scratching our heads to work out where it might be coming in from! Cos we never use the back seats we hadn't even noticed how much water they'd soaked up from the boot until we needed to carry a passenger... then the investigations began... boot was soaking!!! Annnnd now I know why my windows were always running on the inside!! Sealant purchased and we'll be doing this at the weekend! Thanks for such an informative video... I'm confident this will solve my problems!!!😁
Nice video (again!). Noticed today my daughter's C1 right rear light cluster has about 2" of water collected, probably after the monsoon we had on Friday! Left hand carpet a bit wet too so will follow your steps to cure both issues.
Great video, thanks. I've had a leak recently and was struggling to find the exact cause. This video was easy to understand and I'll get on the case of repairing it
You could also make new seals , for the lights, with denser foam and glue it on. Use the old seals to cut to shape. Good video as these cars are prone to leaks at the back .
Great video tip to solve the water leakage. I think another alternative to silicon sealer would be to use Plumbers Mait it would also work great to seal the lights from water leaking in and its a proper water repellent sealing compound and the bonus it doesn't set so the light lens can be removed for changing the bulbs without it being glued down by the silicon method to the car 👍
Thanks, had this problem with my friend's 107 and fixed it with help from this video. Garage (official Peugot dealer) said they had to replace the rear light assembly completely... Nope.
@@paulh1860 Not "wet" per se, but damp to the touch. I guess it depends on which way the water leaks through? The seat belt was also soaked when pulled through because it retracts into the area where the leak is. I've completed the fix, but also put a dehumidifier in the car for almost a whole day to help dry things out - I was getting horrendous condensation all through the car, which may also be the cause of your wet seat?
@@andyvaisey I'm going to have a look tomorrow but my wife said roof lining was wet, think it might be high intensity brake light. Might try the dehumidifier too, it's never going to dry in this weather
@@paulh1860 I think the leak on my wife's car was the off-side rear light cluster, but I sealed *all* the rear lights just in case. The roof lining wasn't wet, but was starting to grow spots of mould, probably due to the condensation caused by the swimming pool in the spare wheel well. The dehumidifier worked wonders, but I still want to do another day with it just to be sure - I pulled the boot carpet out and that is drying naturally in the shed.
The space for the spare wheel was full of water on my C1 when i bought it, i newer got it fixed during the months i owned it. Just drained it with the plugs mentioned in the video. Found a 2008 107 with only 24000 km on the odometer instead and i will definitely seal my car up before i get an issue with water. Saw an other channel where they put another foam gasket on the metal side so there was foam against foam when the light was reassembled.
The boot in mine is the same & also the rear drivers side at feet is drenched, I’ve got a heater in there atm waiting for new seals to arrive but im gonna check the lights right now thanks for this information
Good video, think I’d have changed the bulbs while it was out though. Caravan dealers sell non setting mastic sealant in tubes or rolls, it would be perfect for this job !
Thanks for this video,I have the same problem as you ,so I`m going to have a bash at it myself.I recently changed my front break pads and discs thanks to your other video and the car just sailed through its M.O.T. Keep up the great work!
This has just happened on the Mrs car, we thought it was because of the recall last year, where they replaced the window and seals in the rear, just rung the garage up and they mentioned the seal around the rear light, its mainly on the passenger side on the rear, but thanks for this i will seal them all over the weekend and that should do the trick.
Such a common issue, oddly they never bothered to correct it with better seals. Other cars have the same design flaw. Thanks for sharing, doing this fix right now on our C1, as the in car swimming pool is no longer needed.
Out of interest, did you get the "swimming pool" getting into the main floor of the car too? We have this but not convinced it's just the rear lights that the leak is coming from...
@@Rg-xi3lk yes there is a door seal that simply glues to the inside of the top of the doors. Its sold for the Toyota version but apparently not for the Peugeot or Citroen version of the car. We only found this out under warranty as the dealership also owned the Toyota one next door. They were only a few quid each. But have saved having to have the carpet replaced as was the case prior to fitment. Just about to do the same set of fixes to my mothers 107 which she bought because she thought it was nice.
@@Rg-xi3lk yes they are a rubber flexible strip that just sticks on with the sticky film on one side. Ours have stayed on for years now and quite a few goes through the car wash machines at several garages. Also worth mentioning is there are two breather ports behind the rear bumper that are very poorly attached and removal of the bumper and a good reseal of these prevents water getting in. I just mastic them in with exterior sealant, then pop the bumper back on. Takes 20 mins or so to do.
On a Peugeot 308, I applied silicone to the foam light seals and those on the air vents under the rear bumper, but still water getting in. Also, need to look at leaks around the front windscreen / wiper scuttle. The car is a nightmare for keeping dry and full of crap body finishing.
My Wife has had her C1 from new within 8 months she was complaining that the car was steaming up and felt a bit damp, it was mentioned to the dealers but they said they couldn’t find anything wrong and told her to use the heater more often. A month or two on and after a heavy rain storm the boot floor was soaking wet. Back to the dealers and it was fixed under warranty, problem was the high level brake light gasket had failed the water comes in on the left hand side (near side) all the way down behind the head lining and trim arriving onto the boot floor under the carpet. Easy to miss in the early stages as small amounts are soaked and dispersed in the carpet. Today six years on, water in the car again, the boot carpet soaked but this time the parcel shelf was also soaking wet. I thought I’d investigate myself, took the carpet and parcel shelf out, dried them in the house, folded the back seats down shut the tail glass and ran a hose pipe over the roof . Watching from inside the car I could see the water getting past the main rubber seal at the top which explains it getting as high as the parcel shelf, there was also a smaller amount getting in through the push button assembly at the bottom and onto the boot floor and a tiny bit coming in from that high level brake light again. From the outside with the tail glass up, a few conifer leaves stuck to the rubber between the glass when closed was all it needed to allow the water to get in . Dirt around the rubber also slowing down the flow, how did the designers think this was going to work, the rubber uses all the metal seam so effectively blocking the water channel you would see on other cars. After a very detailed clean I have this working but will need to keep on top of this to keep the rain out. I checked out the light clusters as per vides but they seamed ok, the high level brake light that had been replaced by the dealers is stuck to the car so I can’t get it off without damaging it, looks like some sort of black windscreen glue so they mustn’t have been happy with just fitting just the original gasket. As it’s just a tiny leak in this I will pipe in tiny amount of silicone, masking off the car, hope we don’t need to change a bulb but if we ever do the fitting is a goner anyway due to the dealers glue. Thanks for your information we still like the car and will persevere.
Thanks viv for the super detailed information, this is a great comment with loads of great content that will no doubt help someone solve water ingress problems 👍🏻👍🏻🚘
Grande Punto 2008 similar design with sponge. Used clear silicone. Much better but still a little trickle down the side but minimal really to what it was like before. Went to take the light off the sponge stuck to the car! Glued it back on the light back and reapplied silicone. I may try the White plumbers paste you mention in the Focus video if it persists.
Safety recall- I watched the video yesterday and was all set to give it a go and then today I received a letter saying there was a safety recall- to do with the hinges on the back window not being correct and could be letting in water, vibrating and a possibility of the window coming free. So it's being booked in to put right .
Great video , thanks. I sealed the foam behind the light clusters some time ago and it wasn't a complete success. I've done the top brake light as well though I'm not sure that was necessary. With our car I think the culprits are the air vents behind the bumper. The seals were pathetic and water running down past the light cluster will run round and under the rear window then pass down and should go around the air vents but I reckon in our case it was getting in there.
Hey... thanks for this... great. I've a Toyota Aygo... daughter was running it and kept saying for a long time that it seemed misty inside. Having just checked it out I found a good inch of water in the tyre well. I'm gonna do as you have.... but with plumbers Boss White jointing compound. It's like a maliable putty... ... that way it's easier come new bulb time. I'll see how it goes... if all else fails... bring out the silicone. 😊👍 Thanks again.
id use butilic mastic the kind you use under the kitchen/or for sealing headlights (the one in a roll) its flexible and creates a water seal , yet if you pry its easy to take off in the future
My Toyota Aygo which is a similar design has the same problem, I never understand why they don't actually put a rubber seal between the chassis and actual light? Anyway your video is very helpful. Many thanks.
I am trying to replace the bolt on the light as just realised I am missing the bottom one any ideas what size I need and we're to get in from ? Sorry usless with cars
another method instead of silicon would be a good thick spread of grease around the seal surfaces, that way it is still easy to disassemble to replace bulbs, great vid btw.
I have owned my Aygo for 12 years and chased this leak, it got worse with age, I found that the leak got worse when snow was on the roof, a clue, I found the high level brake light, the oval one above the rear window was at fault, If you look closely at the top of the light and the area it seals against, you can see a gap where the foam seal has shrunk and would allow a large amount of water in behind the roof liner, Either the red plastic of the lens warps over time or the foam seal shrinks due to UV, I took it out cleaned both sides put masking tape around the light and put a bead around where the light would sit, Just the top half of the light should be enough as water normally doesn't travel upwards, I then lightly screwed the lens in position and used a lolly pop stick to profile the silicone, Then when it dried i could do it up to "squish" the sealant for a better seal, When i bought my car in 2009 i knew about the reported leaks, It was not clear where the leak were coming from, but that high level brake light looks like it was the reason, on Aygo at least, The Pug, and Citroen have the same high level light, It would also make it look like the rear lights were leaking as the water would flow past the rear of the light clusters to make it look like that was the fault, Great video as always, hope this helps someone as left it will start to send your rear seat and seat belts mouldy, I also pulled off the sodden recycled fabric off the back of the boot carpet and threw it away.
I really want to fix the leak in my Aygo, but if using silicone, what happens when it is time to change the light bulbs? How will I remove the headlight? (will it not be stuck to the metal?) Thank you for the help!
it will be more difficult to remove, but the foam will tear if you push it hard enough, you can use other sealants like plumbers boss white which will not bond completely, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
good morning, i followed your interesting interventions on peugout 107 and i would like to ask you how to repair srs air bag spy exploded steering wheel and seat belt pretension store i would be very grateful to help me to visualize the sensor and the cable behind the front bumper thank you very much
We used the silicone and hoping it works . In the right side though we put the white plug back but now the lights work but the indicator doesn’t??? On one side it looked rusty on one of the top holes in the plug- how can we replace it to get the indicator working again. The bulb is intact. Thanks
aaanton11 The bulb looks intact - but I saw another video of yours with puckering to the filament and a slightly darker glass so when it stops raining here in Wales we will have another look and sadly have to silicone again. The dash is blinking fast like it should be the bulb - which is why I am thinking I’m going a bit dippy.
Thanks for the video. Is it possible that this problem would also cause the water to run into the main cabin? I'm seeing it in the footwell of the rear seats and by the sides of the front seats...
Is so much cheaper just to buy a replacement foam and replace it. Is a standar air polyurethane foam with 12 mm thickness and cut by size. However I am interested if there is any othe cause of this happening on a Barlingo B9...
I've got a leak have the spare wheel well slowly filling nothing major ...but the rear passenger footwell had inches deep water after all the rain and snow ....car is parked on an upwards facing incline so doubt it's a rear light issue any other ideas at all ??? 👍...it's a 5 door 05 107 btw
On out Aygo the water seems to be leaking through the inside of the rubber boot seal. The seal presses over the rim of the boot aperture. Water seems to get into the seal - travel around it and then leaks in. I am wondering if I should fill the channel of the seal with a silicone sealant.
I think you will struggle to close the glass, you could adjust the boot catch to pull the glass tighter to the seal👍🏻thanks for the great comments 👍🏻👍🏻🛠
@@aaanton11 It surely won't make a difference as I will push the rubber seal firmly back onto the rim - the sealant will be pushed to the sides to fill any spaces in the channel where water is passing.
@@aaanton11 As I thought - it makes no difference to closing the boot as the sealant pushes out (whilst soft) to fill the channel in the seal. Will get the hose out later.
Nice. They all got the same problem ^^ I just removed my 3rd breaking light and just put some duct tape over the hole. Then left the car outside for 2-3 rainy days and checked every day the boot for water incoming. It was pretty dry, so i think main problem is the 3rd light and the others are just the "bonus". Also i saw on the 3rd light, that it is pretty much pressed on left and right, where the screws are, but got a little, just a tiny, hole on the mid section. But i'm stil aware of "glueing" the light to the car, as you need to remoe it every time a lamp is broken. I'm still working on a nice solution for this.
Thanks for watching, That was one reason I only siliconed the top edge of the 3rd brake light I can just use a blade to cut the seal to remove, the light units will be more difficult to remove, but I like a challenge 👍🏻👍🏻

I used gasket on a tube. it dont stick as hard as silicone, pro tip right there :). but the foam looked so "dodgy" that i covered them all over withe gasket on a tube. i still got a tiny leak but that becouse one skrev does not work, maybe a bigger one can grip the damaged plastic hole? as you propably guessed my native lanuguige is not english.

I would've put a smear of Vaseline on the body part (or grease). The silicone would set and take up the shape but when set, it wouldn't stick to the body and tear the foam.

Thanks, had this problem with my friend's 107 and fixed it with help from this video. Garage (official Peugot dealer) said they had to replace the rear light assembly completely... Nope.
Thanks for the great comments, good job 👍🏻 👍🏻
My wife's Citroen C1 has the same issues and I suspected water was getting in through the light clusters. I'll give your fix a try tomorrow! Cheers!
Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Could I ask if the back seat got wet also? My wife's 107 boot is soaked but also back seat.
I had to go through this twice, finally it worked out fine. Thanks!
Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
The space for the spare wheel was full of water on my C1 when i bought it, i newer got it fixed during the months i owned it. Just drained it with the plugs mentioned in the video. Found a 2008 107 with only 24000 km on the odometer instead and i will definitely seal my car up before i get an issue with water. Saw an other channel where they put another foam gasket on the metal side so there was foam against foam when the light was reassembled.
Thanks for the great information, sounds like a good idea👍🏻👍🏻
The boot in mine is the same & also the rear drivers side at feet is drenched, I’ve got a heater in there atm waiting for new seals to arrive but im gonna check the lights right now thanks for this information
Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Wow! I never thought of that. I was looking in the wrong place. Thank you so much. Merry Cristmas.
merry Christmas to you too, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Good video, think I’d have changed the bulbs while it was out though. Caravan dealers sell non setting mastic sealant in tubes or rolls, it would be perfect for this job !
That would work great, thanks for the great information 👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Just ordered some SOUDAL - BUTYRUB NON-SETTING MASTIC
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction
Thanks for this video,I have the same problem as you ,so I`m going to have a bash at it myself.I recently changed my front break pads and discs thanks to your other video and the car just sailed through its M.O.T. Keep up the great work!
Glad you are getting the jobs done, these comments make it all worth while, thank you 😊👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Thanks for the video....I was thinking it may be the tailgate rubber seal but now I shall have a look towards the lights
Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
This has just happened on the Mrs car, we thought it was because of the recall last year, where they replaced the window and seals in the rear, just rung the garage up and they mentioned the seal around the rear light, its mainly on the passenger side on the rear, but thanks for this i will seal them all over the weekend and that should do the trick.
This is usually the issue, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Such a common issue, oddly they never bothered to correct it with better seals. Other cars have the same design flaw. Thanks for sharing, doing this fix right now on our C1, as the in car swimming pool is no longer needed.
😂, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
@@pkf4124 thanks! Easy to do then?
Maybe the boot seals are a bit squashed, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠

Thats one of the issues sorted, the lights are always favourite for leaks, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Great information, hopefully you have sorted it out now, thanks for the great comments 👍🏻👍🏻
thank you mate that leak was doing my head in !
Sarah Hughes I know right
Seal it up tight😂thanks for watching 👍🏻👍🏻

Hey... thanks for this...
Also.... finding out from other vids... that top stop light above tailgate is highly common leak point. Little gasket on it just wastes away.
Great idea, that stuff is awesome, thanks for the great comments 👍🏻👍🏻🛠

id use butilic mastic the kind you use under the kitchen/or for sealing headlights (the one in a roll) its flexible and creates a water seal , yet if you pry its easy to take off in the future

@@aaanton11 Mind as well tell you, in my case, i also had water on the roof, the third brake light was leaking all over!

another method instead of silicon would be a good thick spread of grease around the seal surfaces, that way it is still easy to disassemble to replace bulbs, great vid btw.

Brilliant video, can you not buy a separate seal,?
Will anyone DIY silicone work?
Yes works like a charm, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
I have owned my Aygo for 12 years and chased this leak, it got worse with age,
I found that the leak got worse when snow was on the roof, a clue,
I found the high level brake light, the oval one above the rear window was at fault,
If you look closely at the top of the light and the area it seals against, you can see a gap where the foam seal has shrunk and would allow a large amount of water in behind the roof liner,
Either the red plastic of the lens warps over time or the foam seal shrinks due to UV,
I took it out cleaned both sides put masking tape around the light and put a bead around where the light would sit,
Just the top half of the light should be enough as water normally doesn't travel upwards,
I then lightly screwed the lens in position and used a lolly pop stick to profile the silicone,
Then when it dried i could do it up to "squish" the sealant for a better seal,
When i bought my car in 2009 i knew about the reported leaks,
It was not clear where the leak were coming from, but that high level brake light looks like it was the reason, on Aygo at least,
The Pug, and Citroen have the same high level light,
It would also make it look like the rear lights were leaking as the water would flow past the rear of the light clusters to make it look like that was the fault,
Great video as always, hope this helps someone as left it will start to send your rear seat and seat belts mouldy,
I also pulled off the sodden recycled fabric off the back of the boot carpet and threw it away.
Wow Thanks for the great information👍🏻👍🏻🛠

How do you change the back lights when is glued down ? Could you not get a new seal are is that to easy
you can still remove the lights with a good push the sponge seal just comes away, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
I really want to fix the leak in my Aygo, but if using silicone, what happens when it is time to change the light bulbs? How will I remove the headlight? (will it not be stuck to the metal?)
Thank you for the help!
it will be more difficult to remove, but the foam will tear if you push it hard enough, you can use other sealants like plumbers boss white which will not bond completely, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠

We used the silicone and hoping it works . In the right side though we put the white plug back but now the lights work but the indicator doesn’t??? On one side it looked rusty on one of the top holes in the plug- how can we replace it to get the indicator working again. The bulb is intact.
Thanks
Remove the light unit before it cures, there must be a issue with the connection or the bulb👍🏻👍🏻🛠
aaanton11
The bulb looks intact - but I saw another video of yours with puckering to the filament and a slightly darker glass so when it stops raining here in Wales we will have another look and sadly have to silicone again. The dash is blinking fast like it should be the bulb - which is why I am thinking I’m going a bit dippy.
Thanks for the video. Is it possible that this problem would also cause the water to run into the main cabin? I'm seeing it in the footwell of the rear seats and by the sides of the front seats...
Yes it will always make its way to the front, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Is so much cheaper just to buy a replacement foam and replace it. Is a standar air polyurethane foam with 12 mm thickness and cut by size. However I am interested if there is any othe cause of this happening on a Barlingo B9...
It happens to many different models, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
I've got a leak have the spare wheel well slowly filling nothing major ...but the rear passenger footwell had inches deep water after all the rain and snow ....car is parked on an upwards facing incline so doubt it's a rear light issue any other ideas at all ??? 👍...it's a 5 door 05 107 btw

just wondered if letting the silicone dry up would still work? then put the light back would avoid the whole ripping of the foam then
I don't think you would get the light back in, unless it was a very thin layer Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
I had a leak that looked like it was the same has you fixed but it turned out to be the rubber seal.
Thanks for the great information👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Give it a go, worst scenario is you will have to replace the boot seal, let me know how you get on 👍🏻👍🏻🛠
@@aaanton11 As I thought - it makes no difference to closing the boot as the sealant pushes out (whilst soft) to fill the channel in the seal. Will get the hose out later.
Just had the hose on it and it seems to have fixed it.
So not the actually seal needs replacing.. just a bit of silicone on those areas should sort it you think?
Definitely, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Nice. They all got the same problem ^^
I just removed my 3rd breaking light and just put some duct tape over the hole.
Thanks man, I`m going to try this on my 107.
Good luck! Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
