I recently did what I'm calling my first "overnight prep" day hike. I packed up everything I would want to take for an overnight and did a 9km out and back day hike. It didn't go 100% according to plan and I ended up getting back to my car in the pitch black. Trips like this are definitely key for beginners like me. Even though I had a very bright light ready to go, I forgot it on my desk while packing and had nothing but my phone to see where I was stepping once it got too dark. This was in Elk Island National Park at the end of January so it was a snowy trail than you could easily sink into the snow if you stepped off trail. Also, it was a bit freaky in the dark knowing that you could stumble across some bison very easily. Lesson learned!!
Thanks Krysta for all this great information. I am sharing your video with my hiking group, "The Twisted Blisters." As we are seniors, most of us also carry a hiking stick too, for balance.
Thank you! You are so calm when you explain what you're doing, i could watch and listen for more lolllll Very interesting 😉
What a great informative video. Thanks for breaking it down.
