I recently discovered the original japanese version has an easy mode, and two possible additional shield points in the options menu.

There's a series going on also called Earth Defense Force from PS2 onwards, which is basically a 3rd person shooter series where you kill gazillions of giant bugs, spaceships and even friggin Godzillas!

Actually I disagree with certain thing's he said about the mechanics. First off he is not a person I would listen to about shooter's he isn't good at them he is a casual. They don't put weapons for no reason in the game he probably didn't know when to use certain weapons lol. They serve a purpose that would be like saying in Thunderforce games you don't need the back shot on your ship, with enemies tailing you.

This is a totally underrated game! 8 different weapons, the leveling system and the permanent options made it stick out to me, and it has some kickass music. I'd say you're wrong about the weapons, they're all good, though some only show their real value at higher levels and/or with more option formations unlocked. The only one I never could get much use out of was the Photon (I believe it was -- the one that let you charge your shots kinds like in R-Type). Wish more shmups had a leveling system like this, tbh.

hip indeed hey the photon is a beast once you are at about level 5 when those turrets are able to chase the enemies around use that along witht photon and watch you blow by the game with a breeze

There is a bit of strategy to be used with your "Turrets", they are indestructible so you can (have to) use them to slam into enemies and bosses to destroy them faster.

This game rules, it’s so much better than its arcade counterpart
By the by, the switch online rewind feature should be on every shmup, because it really helps you learn the games and master patterns/memorization etc.

What I like is, when you gain a lot of levels and power up your weapon and turrets, you can switch weapons on continue.. now, all of a sudden nuclear with homing turrets is viable and the explosions help defend you, so you can sorta evolve? how you play as you go

  • @pannoni8449

I received this game for my 8th birthday, and even though it may not be as cool as Super R-Type, it still was fun learning how to use the proper weapon to get through, and eventually the strategy to accomplishing everything. After you fill the EXP bar at level 5, you're awarded an extra hit, which can really come in valuably if you manage to make it to the final boss, known for the infamous reverse scrolling. That said, there is a noticeable slowdown for using the S. Laser at times, especially in higher levels.

Not gonna lie from the title i really thought this was one of those top down tactical games! I did not know it was a shoot em up! I judged this like crazy lol it looks like a cool game though! Great video Drunk!

You also have 3 speed settings you can manually switch between. I use 2nd gear(?) for most of the level and then 3rd gear for boss fights. I greatly appreciate this since I would often get too fast in Gradius 3 and not see it as a power-up beyond a certain point. This is pretty innovative for Jaleco! I hate shmups that don't let you shoot in multiple directions (which is most), so the homing gun is definitely my go-to in this one.

This game is pretty tough the first time you play it but gets pretty easy once you figure out the best weapons to use on each stage. My toughest parts are stage 4 and the darn final boss sea turtle thing. Can only beat that sometimes. I have finished this game on the hard setting once and the regular setting with the shield setting at 1 shield also once. Got pretty lucky both those times.

My setup to clear it without continue: Homing on stages 1 to 3, then S. Laser, Atomic and Grenade. Stage 4 is the hardest to no-miss. Homing is cool but too weak for later bosses. I tried to use photon but still can't figure how to play it effectively

  • @Biospark88
    @Biospark88 4 ปีที่แล้ว

One of the better SNES shmups. Good challenge level and the slowdown is tolerable. Pro tip: use the Explode weapon if you want to reduce the slowdown. The homing and s-laser are arguably the best weapons but also the most taxing on the system. I’ve noticed a big difference on the bosses where the game lags like hell with Homing but doesn’t miss a beat with Explode.

When I played this for the first time on my Nintendo switch I was really happy about the extra hit points you get, but yes I was definitely annoyed with the fact that you get sent back to the beginning of the level when you die. I grew up in the 90s and to be honest I didn't play very many of these shoot them up games but there were some I enjoyed. Glad it's so readily available now

Interestingly this game was not that hard for me compared to Phalanx or Axelay, and I played all of them when I was a kid(for R-Type III i needed an emulator) In E.D.F the choice of weapons if you want to set up as a self made achievement to only use 1 weapon type per stage: 1: Vulkan , 2: ALWAYS Homing, 3:Explosion or Photon(Photon is stronger but makes the stage waay more brutal), 4 : Grenade, 5: S.Laser, 6: Atomic -> pretty challenging but not impossibly hard...

I have the exact opposite opinion of this game than you lol thought it was somewhat easy, still fun as hell. Phalanx I thought was harder, I can never get past stage 5. E.D.F I've actually get to the end. Final boss always gets me, but lol then again, I did pump far more hours into E.D.F so, maybe thats why I think it's easier?

I have beaten this game. And, with the skill I had to grow to beat it will always be able to beat it because to beat it you have to memorize enemy and hazard spawns so you know where to put your ship in certain scenarios. The first year I got my SNES my A-hole dad put the rule forth that I must beat the games I had to get new games. I has Super Mario, Final fantasy Mystic Quest, and This game. My reward for beating it was Mega Man X.
