Operation Shanela: Cops tackle undocumented persons, hijacked buildings, stolen vehicles in JHB

Gauteng Police Commissioner Elias Mawela alongside South African Police Service senior management as well as other law enforcement agencies led the multidisciplinary Operation Shanela in the central Johannesburg on 5 October 2023. The operation seeks to stamp the authority of the state while fighting lawlessness in the area. It also includes dealing with criminal activity taking place in hijacked buildings while maximising police visibility.
