Hope they keep this one for a year or so. Would love to see how it does in all seasons.
Real talk. I went into the welding trade and the most I made was 40k a year in my area. Went to a warehouse and make 35k for much less work. Currently in school for web dev paid by the warehouse corp I work for. For my future qualifications as an entry level employee in my area I’d make around 65-80k. How in the world can anyone afford anything? There is no middle class anymore for anyone under 30 years old just rich and poor. Now there are ways to succeed, of course! But there is no such thing as a single income home for people that make below 100k anymore. Sorry for the rant. Good video lol
Agreed! Remember growing up and hearing the numbers you stated for the dev job as good money 💰 😅 🤦🏾♀️ you need literally twice that atleast…
@@LafemmebearMusicthat's because inflation has probably made the dollar worth half as much since you were a kid.
Agreed. $100k is almost a starting point now instead of a goal.
LMAO! An shop ironworker never could afford a new top-shelf truck. I worked in the field since the '80s. As shop foreman, with a wife with a good income as well, we could afford to drive whatever we wanted. But the men working under me? Not so much! A young man with a family to feed doesn't buy these things, and never really did.
Bidenomics Democrats suck
I appreciated this practical yet comprehensive road test, Tommy. It gave me all the information, I needed.
Great to hear!

Resetting the trip was way easier than pushing a button on the instrument cluster. (Sarcasm) I hate how electronic screens have made what was a very simple task into a waiting game while you let the system boot up or navigate through several screens. Man have we got backwards in convenience!
YES! Stop being cheap and give us our damn buttons back!
Upper body strength of a squirrel 🐿 Tommy dont say that 5:46. awesome simple road trip. Love ya bud.
The stalker is back…
@@garysarratt1 huh?
Love seeing this. Just got back from a road trip myself from CO into UT then AZ and back in my 2019 Ranger. I'll be picking up a new 2.7 as soon as they're available to order.
Same here!
Nice...I am heading out next month to CA from TX...on past trips in my 2019 Ranger XL I have been getting around 23mpg...I only run premium..considering the 80+ mph limits for long stretches it's a decent avg.
@@xTouragx Best riding midsize truck on the road in my opinion. Mine even has a Fox 2.5 lift, skid plates, HD rear springs, high clearance overland bumper from ADD, and 34s. Still rides amazing and gets great mileage considering the mods. I
Everytime I see one of your RR videos..I find myself refreshing my ford tracker expecting to update and tell me mines been shipped.
Keep it up fellas, I'm loving the content
Mine has shipped, just waiting patiently for it to hit the dealers. (I have wanted this truck since the global spec was first released.
Waiting for mine to...waiting is the worst lol
When we bought our explorer last year fuel mileage improved quite a bit after 1,000 miles
Anxiously awaiting to see it in your off road course.
I'm on my second Ford with adaptive cruise/lane centering. I think Ford's Lane centering/adaptive cruise is quite
I think you did a great review sir and I love the ranger raptor!
Great video. I’m impressed with the results with the raptor ranger. Thanks Tommy.. Tome to order one
I am getting one of these this summer and can hardly wait.
love the video and the Truck. Ordered my Ranger 1st at dealer (order code 19) and just wish my dealer was getting more than 1 this year!
Good luck!
Crazy they only are getting 1.. what happened to America. I guess China is priority
Great road test review!! Lane assist, surround sound, does it play movies while you drive and pop popcorn 🍿? The fuel mileage isn't much better than the F-150 version. My F-150 eco boost averages 13.8 mpg. That said if I cruise on flat ground without turbo I can get around 25. I'll take a naturally aspirated V6 or V8 any day for long term reliability. The are two modes with ECOboost....ECO or Boost.
My 5.3 GMC 1500 AT4, 2021, gets 23 on the highway. Seems to do better in higher elevations. Coming back from Steamboat to Brighton yesterday I got 27. Driving the speed limit mostly until I got to Floyd Hill, the sped up somewhat.
TFL great idea to take all the top tier midsized trucks on long road trips. Everyone compare all the top tier midsized trucks at what they do best, off-roading, but how are they at long road trips? The comfort, the ride feel, the tech?
Love it, I can’t wait to buy one myself!
Noice. Happy for you man. I have an 25 allocation for a bronco raptor and can't wait for it!
Great review, actually looking forward to seeing one in person sometime hopefully in 2024. With you on having a few more physical buttons, like my current 22-F150-Tremor. If I can pull off being able to tow less, might consider trading my F150 in next year for one !
Raptor made in our Wayne, Michigan plant , nice to see American made products again.
I agree
Hmm. Wonder how well these will hold their value! Seems like a great truck alternative to the TRD Pro
Sosnt rear locker come on when choosing rock crawl mode? If it does, you will atleast have that, if your display malfunctions.
Good job Tommy👍🏻
Thanks 👍
i cant find the video with the tacoma you mentioned anywhere?
I had the screen issue with my Bronco. Had to have APIM replaced. It didn't jist "go away" with software updates.
Wife just picked up her RR 3 days ago (shelter green). It feels very tight, not loose or shaky. She loves it. So do I.
SVT probably had a hand in it. SVT branded fords are usually better than the regular ford vehicles imho.
Nice review. Good to know real world numbers over long distance. I also lament the lack of dedicate switches for the seats and the permanent screen use for HVAC. A shorter screen and physical buttons for HVAC would have been better. Basically, a total screen size like you displayed for map and phone buttons.
Do the lockers work under 4 low or under 4wauto🤔 do you think they will be aftermarket buttons for lockers one day??
Kind of a strange question, but how well does the Hot Pepper Red exterior color match the red/orange accents in the interior??
How was the road noise compared to the standard ranger? The Tacoma?
With Ford using the fuel cap thingy majiggy you gotta pull fuel handle out and put back in then do it for 30 secs. I have a Ranger
I know this isn’t your usual thing but could you do a drivetrain comparison between the Bronco and the Ranger Raptor. Like do they share the same steering rack or front differential. Things like that.
Twin turbo V6s are way more complex than 4 cylinder turbo trucks. The 2.3 is the better choice for longevity. TT V6 is great for more power but youve got two turbos, intakes, header exhausts, cams, heads, and more that can go wrong
saw a ranger raptor driving through Moab this past week. and now i know who was driving it.
When i bought my 22' Maverick 2.0 EcoBoost AWD (specifically didn't want the FX4) ....i wasn't concerned at all about gas mileage. I wanted the most capability for towing and hauling that the Maverick could offer. Didn't really need off-roading. But i would assume anyone buying a Ranger Raptor wouldn't be too concerned with gas mileage.
This is my 2nd new vehicle right after a 17' Focus and I've noticed that after 20,000 - 25,000 miles, gas mileage seems to get slightly better by 1 or 2mpg.
Figuring out a way to wire the lockers into the switches overhead would be great!
My 2014 F150 Ecoboost didnt fully break in until like 5000 miles. I was horrified when I first bought it and drove cross country with only 1200 miles on the truck and was only getting 13mpg. Once it broke in it was averaging 17-18 daily driving no problem and would hit 21 on the freeway at 65.
I enjoy my xlt ranger it’s a smaller engine wider and longer body i4 2.3 liter twin turbo engine as well very pleased with it
Fantastic review. It did very well. It’s kinda nice that it blends in, too.
Thanks for watching!
It's amazing how cramped the cabs are in these mid-size pickups whereas my compact Maverick has a bigger and more airy cabin than any of the mid-sizers. However, the back seat is a little on the tight side since it's not a well padded bench but there's plenty of headroom and some knee room. It's definitely more tolerable than a Ranger or Tacoma. I recently test drove a new Ranger XLT with the Sport package and was genuinely unimpressed with it. The ride was very bouncy/jittery, the cab made you feel claustrophobic, the hood is longer than in the Maverick so it cuts into more visibility, the windows are narrow, and the screen is hard to look at since it's not angled towards the driver and the fact it's vertically oriented. A horizontal one would've been the way to go. It's easier to look at and blends in better with the dash. Plus, you don't have to look down at most controls. One good thing I'll say is the 2.3L is a very peppy engine. Plenty of get up and go but everything else disappointed me big time. I wonder if that'll change if I were to test drive the Raptor since it has an even bigger 3.0L twin turbo, has the 10-speed, and has the upgraded shocks and tires. Since all the Raptors drive comfortably, my opinion would more than likely change but that's if I can get my hands on one. If not, oh well. The Maverick is a much more tolerable, comfortable, and more affordable daily driver. Hence one of the many reasons I chose it over the Ranger.
Totally agree interior of maverick is better but the maverick is very comparable to a smaller version of a Ridgeline. Maverick is based off the ford bronco sport and escape so it has alot of similar features like tank size, range, mpg, front space for driver and passenger, instead of having a trunk you get a 4.5 ft bed. So Your comparison to the ranger can be viewed the same way with the SUV counterparts. Seems your more in the SUV market than pickups. The escape can tow 500 lbs less than the maverick so it's worth thinking about, but I'm sure you have a maverick because you want a "pick up truck". The pricing of the maverick and escape is very comparable too.
I have both 21 Escape Titanium and 21 Ranger. Definitely more room in the driver passenger area of the Ranger. Both are comfortable but the Ranger (FX4 Lariat) is more so.
Because maverick is a crossover suv with a bed
Do you like the ford ranger raptor or the bronco more for road trips?
Tommy - can you assign a Aux Switch to the locker?
There has to be a way even if you have to hard wire
Seems like a very fair number.
With all these new vehicles having glitches that need a hard reboot, it’s almost like it would be beneficial if they included a battery disconnect switch like many of the big commercial vehicles have.
At 7:00 the video shows the Glenwood canyon in Colorado. My father designed the 12 miles of Glenwood Canyon.
He designed a canyon? Amazeballs!
@@paulp.6399 Glenwood Canyon Highway is a cantilevered highway that was two lane and now is 4 lane, stacked on top of each other.
This is a very cool little truck
I saw another video that said the Tacoma Trailhunter gets 12 MPG! Thank goodness this one lives up to its sticker!
Lol 12 mpg is probably trail mpg. A trd pro was tested at 19 mpg on another channel.
Where is the Moab video at?
I really want one...
I am shortlisting this car for my next pick. Here in Greece Rangers are very common and famous trucks. But competition to Jeep 4xe and F150 is high, so i don't know what would be the better choice. There are only a handful of imported F150s in Greece once they don't comply to EU CO2 emission policy, I don't know also whether to hold a Ranger Raptor than an F150 is more affordable as a daily, sure the F150 is bigger for a 4 member family, as i can tell Ranger is not rommie enough, but on the other hand it is a big deal in Greece the Jeep 4xe. Not only it is a hybrid but as an iconic offroader it doesn't lacks at anything to those Fords. The question is how responsive that Jeep is on the road. Brand new Ranger Raptor coasts 72.000€ , F150 Raptor 100.000€ and 4xe 95.000€ in Greece. What would you advise in my occasion, for a family guy who would use those things as daily cars, mainly, having at tops 4 off-road trips per year ? I usually ride for 13miles per day.
How does this compare to the regular Raptor and to the Tacoma.?
the link for the offroad doesnt work
I would have liked to know at 80mph in 10th gear what your engine RPM was.
Better mileage than my Xterra!
I still remember the olden days when I didn't have to wait on my instrument cluster to boot up.
wonder what a 3.5 engine would have got ? why the 3 litre ?
What is the brake in period for the ranger?
Break in period is 1,000 miles for most new Ford models.
Truck looks awesome. The lane trace is kinda okay. Auto pilot features that aren’t radar cruise control are largely expensive junk that isn’t even that great in my opinion, but it’s a nice touch I guess
Too bad my local dealers want between 7500-15k markup over MSRP. I would love one at $58k like TFL was able to procure.
That's it?? Lowest I got was $15k to 25k over sticker. Was told multiple times to buy a big raptor with no markup instead.
Not a Ford person but I like this one
NEED THE AMBER LEDS ON THE FRONT...STANDS OUT LIKE THE F150 RAPTOR..
Im Glad people didnt seem ( to you ) all that excited about it...Maybe the Price will drop in that case 🙂
OK Tommy, "I don't like the lockers on the screen, feel better with a button" Well the 63' 1 Ton Power Wagon that I learned to drive on had 2 steel levers for 4x4 and low range engagement. When those controls went to the button that give you so much comfort there was a cacophonous hue and cry in the truck community "Ther is no way that button is going to be as reliable!". How times change!
that switch will fail before your touch screen 9 out of 10 times
@@kidamere2408lol
Tommy, TFL is lucky to have you.
Ford needs to keep building them so I can get a used one in the future.
I enjoy Tommy’s perspective and his commentary and that TFL will be in good hands in the future. That said looking forward to see the new Rangers on local lots soon….i hope. Great job Tommy! 👍
So why do you guys have a truck page ? If you have to search all your pages for truck info.
Die hard fan of Toyotas but with the prices of those new I force max engines in the Tacoma, I’m looking at the ranger raptor.
Why no Blue Cruise?
That’s better than my 2023 Tacoma, damn!
Does this thing have more power with premium?
I believe in order to get the stated HP you have to use premium. That's how all turbo engines work.
@@ryansheard8092 Not all "premium" fuel is what people think that it is. A lot of premium fuel now being sold, especially in the Midwest and Plains states, gets it higher octane rating by having higher ethanol content--up to 15%, since Bidumb changed the regs to raise the allowable ethanol content in unleaded gasoline. In several stations in my area, premium fuel is actually cheaper than regular unleaded. It will perform fine in higher compression engines (higher flashpoint) , but will get worse fuel economy than regular unleaded because of the higher ethanol content.
18 MPG on a 4WD truck with 800 miles on the clock, I'd say that's pretty damn good and may even get a scosche better one the engine's broken in more. Can't wait to see more results in the future.
18.2 @ roughly 80 mph is pretty damn good for a pick up truck.
Not really
Im guessing around town 15 ish mpg.
Midsize trucks have more towing capacity and are roughly the same size as full size trucks in the 90s and early 2000s while getting more Miles per gallon and having cool packages ofc they are gonna be more expensive
My old 2019 basic radio small screen took a long time to give a picture but the functions did what it needed to if you know what it was to look like. Had to have a whole new radio as the pins in the back didn't fix the issue.
Will TFL be acquiring a Ranger with the 2.7l twin turbo V6. Off road trucks are flashy, but I'm interested in a midsize camper tower.
Completely agree about not wanting the controls for the diffs in the infotainment screen because that could lead to a dangerous situation when the screen lags or crashes out on the trail.
We all need to resist paying over sticker. Force them to come down on price.
You don't have decals on the truck. People with notice those and am you about it. It doesn't look too crazy different from the xlt.
Can the new Ranger Raptor be towed 4 down behind a Motorhome?
18.2 mpg at those highway speeds is very impressive!!
I'm surprised 87 octane gas is approved by Ford in this TT V6 engine. That certainly makes it a bit more practical for some as a daily driver.
Ya add blue cruise make it more expensive.
I want one.
Honestly I prefer a lot physical controls.
Take into account that most wont do any actual off-road in it and can use a less aggressive tire, and would likely be closer to sea level, that 18.16 could easily be 20+ for the average joe.
18.2 mpg at 80 mph? Yah that is pretty decent.
Interesting. Good MPG result. I guess. You say people are not giving you much if any attention for this truck. Well, neither would I. It is a good looking truck. It says Raptor. It has some curb appeal. But it is not out of the ordinary looking. It is not an attention grabber. Rare does anyone comment on the vehicles I drive. They are 1 in thousands of similar vehicles. IF I drove a Spyker C8 convertible, heads would turn. Questions would be asked. ;)
My brother has gotten a lot of compliments about his and he lives in silicone valley. More so than his Porsche which surprised him even though he just got iconic silver 🤣
Tommy: Upper body strength of a squirrel
Squirrel: Yeah right 🤣🤣
24 mpg in the taco is pretty hefty competition
You should take 128 out of Moab and pick up 70 at Cisco. Slower but more scenic.
Looks like a nice truck but dealers here in Canada are asking $88-$110 K. I don’t know anyone who is willing to spend full size truck money on a mid size truck. It’s really too bad, I may have bought one if not for the price.
What will EPA estimates be for a Hybrid Ford Ranger Raptor. Will the be here in US market soon?
What Octane did you use? Did I miss that?
87
@@thebeddoctor4273I wonder if that explains the performance difference against the F-150 Raptor they raced. I think premium would help with performance and I suspect even the owners manual would mention as much (as it does with F-150).
they really tamed the looks of the new raptor.. def giving me ford maverick vibes lol
