Just bought a HT Chisel Comp 4 wks ago! Not sure if I gonna yell or cry 😄😭! This bike seems to hit the ultimate sweet spot in the Specialized range RN!

LOL, I had some left from the Epic press launch so I stuck one on because I’m basically still 7 years old
I have the 110/120 travel 2023 Epic Evo and love it. This new Chisel FS is nearly identical except aluminum. I think Specialized hit a homerun with this bike. Personally, I would choose the the Comp build which comes with the RS Sid 35 and SLX drivetrain.

Interested to know what the tire clearance is like? The mud flap protecting the gap at the lower pivots is a nice touch, but I wonder how it would cope with 2.4 tires and UK mud.
Can alloy get fisures when bended? since I see there is no bearings in the rear triangle like other bikes have, I'm speaking from ignorance.
For complete build, I’d go for the SLX build. But from frameset, I’d build it with GX AXS

I recently got a NOS Giant Trance 2. 12 speed Deore groupset Z2 fork, Fox dps, Maxxis tyres for £1099. Probably a bit more downcountry/trail build than this bike (130/120 travel) but plenty of money saved for upgrades. UDH hanger too.
That’s a real steal for sure. You can get a previous gen Epic Evo with a superlight carbon frame for half price ATMO too. Only limited sizes and colours left tho
@@GuyKesTV yeah I was tempted Kes but I ride all year round and night riding in winter I just want to be able to throw a dirty bike on the bike rack so carbon was out for me.. Had I known they were bringing out an alloy version I may have held out for the Chisel FS but I'm pleased with my Trance.
Recently picked up an epic pro LTD at 50% discount, swapped the brain shock for a Bike Yoke + RS SID Ultimate 3P, and swapped the brain fork damper for a RS Raceday charger 2 3P... However, if this bike was released I'd have been seriously tempted to go with this instead, this looks like such a good bike for the vast majority of XC riders who aren't interested in going racing.... Epic EVO I hear you say but it was completely sold out and I'm happy with 110mm front and 95mm rear, works perfectly for my local XC trails.... Anyway, the Chisel FS will be popular, it hits the right price point and the spec looks to be good quality, a perfect base frame from which to upgrade.

@@GuyKesTV Yeah, it's such a good XC bike - a huge improvement from my 2012 Kinesis FF29 which was getting a little old and tired!

I'd start with lighter wheels first, then change the chainset and bottom bracket for a lighter version. Then rear cassette. Those three changes would save you a lot of weight where it matters

I literally bought a Chisel 6 months ago and now this model is released. I’m sad to annonce that now my bike is worthless and will promptly be thrown into the sea. I can’t even bear to look at it anymore. 😢

It's a bit funny, selling aluminium bike for 3k, when just a few weeks ago you could buy new carbon Specialized Enduro for ~3k lol
Specialized website says "High" position puts the head angle at 70° from 66.5° in "Low" position. That must be a mistake. All other geo changes are much more subtle between flip chip positions.
Haha yeah they definitely got that wrong. It’s 67 in the high position. Actually it’s a little bit less when I measured but close enough

How much weight can you lose by making all the changes?
I had a chisel HT which is 1 kilo lighter frame. I got that down to 9.3kilo without going too crazy to 10.5 with this bike should be easy

I own a 2016 camber and a 2023 epic evo (which this bike is very similar to).
I can assure you that this bike rides NOTHING like the evo, if my experience is anything to go by.
New geometry has a totally different feel, even tho the camber could be viewed as the first down country bike.
Its cool that Specialized has figured out how to do the flex pivot in aluminum, but honestly I just can't see why someone would buy this bike instead of something like a new Lux Trail CF6 for a few hundred dollars more. We have one of the cheapest Stumpjumpers that can be bought and it came with all the equivalent low spec components in your video. There is just no long term savings with the cheapest versions of the Specialized bikes, the only savings is right up front, and the savings is small.
Its still fairly heavy too.

This isn’t a paid video, but yes you’re right about other brands using a formed seat tubes with pivot mounts in before. Scott don’t include the BB shell tho.

Radon Skeen Trail and Radon Slide Trail are low cost, but not this under equiped and overpriced alloy bike! Check Decathlon Rockrider as well they have good prices!!! but not Specialized!
Oh FFS stop it with the conspiracy theories, it’s boring and for the record utter bollocks. My industry sponsors are all listed on the video and they don’t include Specialized. It’s low cost for a bike from a proper bike shop with a really good record for customer service. But yeah I hear you about the Rockrider. Previous FS bikes I’ve tested from them haven’t been great but I’ve got the new carbon XC FS bike on the way so very keen to try that. OK?
