I'm a chinese but not from China, and my mum used to prepared soup with black chicken. The broth as you called it, its actually chicken essence from the long hours of cooking, which we believe will help to improve concentration and reduce tiredness. It's a bit bland but the importance is the essence and not the flavor. When i'm on long working hours, my mum will prepare this broth for me.

Silkie Chicken soup is my favorite type of yum ever since I was a kid... My late Maternal Grandmother used to cook it for our family due to the soup's healing and beautifying properties. Loving all of the Chinese yum yums in this video! Thanks for sharing your adventures, Sir Sonny!
I just read your description, and I have to say it was the same exact way for me with Guangzhou. It blew me away. I got to travel around, all the way down into Shenzhen and Hong Kong, and up into the suburbs, even the backwoods, way past Guangzhou to the northwest. It was good watching you in this video, funny chasing chickens...
My relatives are from China. I live in Canada. I like it that it is multi-diversity where I can shop in Chinatown, and cook my favourite foods. Thanks to Sonny, team and co-hosts for filming the foods live in China!!

But he acted like Trevor James in the introduction of the video so he did learn something from the food ranger. Trevor didn't spoke the native language either not Cantonese, but mostly mandarin. He had a wife from there where Mark Wien also had his wife from Thailand. Sonny could get a local girl friend or companion to assist him to communicate. Half of Vietnamese can speak both Cantonese/Mandarin only if his camera man is one of those types, they should able to coordinate when he bought that live silky chicken.

Black chicken has more nutrients then normal white chicken & it is commonly boiled with Chinese herbs to make medicinal herbal soup which is good for the body. Salt is usually not added into herbal soup in order to maintain its natural medicinal benefits
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I have an OMD as a GP, and the items in that soup look a lot more medicinal than culinary. I know black chicken is also used in some food cures. I think Sonny got a bowl full of Chinese medicine, rather than a bowl full of chicken soup.

6:15 not only was there pigs in the blanket and Baozi but look at his bamboo steamer, he's gone modern using anti stick silicone steam mat inside the steam container. ;)
Dough tend to stick easily inside the steamer and is a hassle to clean. Pro steam tip, get one. ;)

what i learn from this video is that, no matter how china treated our country Philippines. it just make me feel proud about the difference of the people in the Philippines on how we communicate with other nations language. even market bendors(i mean less educated person in the Philippines can speak english and can communicate with foreigners and can even speak other languages not only English.. so proud. been watching your videos when your here in Philippines and saw the difference when your there in china. heheheh

The bitter melon... No, no, no, don't eat it raw... ugh. Apparently Kyle was looking away at something else or he would have stopped you. I don't know how the Chinese enjoy it... In Vietnam, we remove the inside, stuff it with minced pork, purple onions, then cook it well into soup, which serves as a detox broth. Or it can be sliced and stir fried with chicken eggs. I urge you to try it next time, not raw. Thanks for another great video. Thumb up already!
In China, we stir fry it, but also eat is raw with seasoning as a cold dish.
You can eat it raw in smoothie, very good.
Bitter melon is very common in Cantonese cuisine. Usually sautéed with pork in a black bean sauce is how many Cantonese eat it. One thing of note, bitter melon is very good for those with diabetes.

Great timing! I can eat my breakfast while watching your show lol. That whole chicken only cost $7!? That's unbelievably cheap! Guangzhou is well known for its complementary soup before the main meals. They usually put Chinese medicated herbs in and simmer for hours and hours, should have a dry sweetness.
I wouldn't say that is cheap, I can get whole oven roasted chickens in here in Canada for $12 Canadian.

My chickens got out of the fencing I had them in...I only had a dozen but I couldn't catch the last 4..my mother came over to take me and my little girls to lunch. I watched my mother catch the last 4 as they ran thru the woods..in her high heels. Yes, high heels...power to that lady.

You should go to the suburbs or rural towns far away from the city center to buy food, because those ingredients are more natural and healthier. Then you can bring these ingredients to the local reputable restaurants to cook, so that you can taste the food that is completely different from the restaurant dishes in Chinese cities.
Your videos have me laughing out loud with my family thinking I’m going nuts. If you made multiple videos a day I would be one of the first to watch each and every one of them. You always live up to the title of your show and then some.
