As a veteran of the US Army (1991-2013) and longtime anime fan, I have never been so moved as I was with this show. I so hope this program gets more promotion as not just a good anime, but as a way to teach family and friends of a member of the military of the changes they will encounter; covering both Violets’ struggle with being an amputee and her mental health issues. The episode that touched me the most was the one with the veteran who need a crutch to get around. Seeing a character dealing with both mobility issues and Survivor's remorse brought be back to when I was medically retired from the Army. Seeing Violet go from being this cold and emotionless person to someone, who is able to open up and share her feeling, reflects how many come to cope with the pain of things seen and actions taken in deployments across the globe. But to be honest, I wasn't too surprised. Violet's initial personality was very likely going to turn a lot of people off and a lot of people didn't like the episodic nature of the show. However, I knew what the anime was going for from the start. The anime definitely did one thing I expected it to do: Give great character development to Violet. And honestly, they absolutely nailed that part. I was satisfied. That's really all that matters. ^_^
I could not agree more that i already did with this video. When I first watched the series, I cried at least once in each episode. The way they get you to connect and feel what the characters are feeling is intense. No form of media has ever gripped me like this show has.
It's wonderful! I started watching it out of curiosity, having heard nothing about it, and as the show progressed I found myself falling in love with everything. What a great and beautiful show, indeed!
truly im glad to be born at this age, Violet Evergarden is a masterpiece, a treasure, that has affected the audience in different ways, it may has changed the way we think, like it did to me, watching the anime in one day, that day, has been a rollercoaster of emotion, that left an impression on me.
i’m literally tearing up looking at the scenes you put in this video. the fatherly love that gilbert gave violet and when she had to letter that letter to the dead soldier’s family. i cried HARD
Thank you, Matt. I'm really glad someone else has been able to put my love for this show to words. I have never watched a show or movie that had me this emotionally invested or attached before. The amount I've physically cried over some of the later episodes has been something I've never experienced before while watching something. The art, music, cinematography, and voice acting is all superb; I think masterpiece is the only word I can think to describe it. I know the writing and pacing isn't always perfect, but perfect is boring. This is the most unique show I've seen in a long time and deserves much more credit and love from people.
DUDE I LOVE YOUR STUFF. I just recently started watching the show but I really liked it. I think you really hit the key points and this will surely help me continue to swath the show more carefully. Keep it up!
An Opera of anime akin to works like Miss Saigon or From Here to Eternity. I have introduced this to my friends son. My friend passed recently to cancer at 51. His home schooled son is 16 and naive. 2500 miles from my home I have been down twice to just be there for them. Thank God I planned my life differently so I could be there to help. Shows like this are better than video games and teach lessons with emotion!
I just finished the series a few days ago and I can't believe that an anime series like that can make an impact. I am just new to anime started from MHA and Demon Slayer. Seeing the show makes me feel a lot emotional. The characters, the setting, the plot, the lessons, backstories, music, and so much more!! I really don't know why the anime community isn't talking about this show that much as well. Pretty much, there were only few fanarts that I saw in Instagram. Overall, you're right. This needs to be talked about as much as the other animes. (The video was posted 2 years ago and I just watched the series a few days ago XD)
I don’t keep up with the anime community’s opinions at all, so I’m really surprised to go through these comments and see how many people didn’t care for this show. I had no expectations for this show and ended up adoring it. I loved the slower pacing and episodic structure. Watching Violet mature with every encounter she had made watching her confront her own past and her grief feel so cathartic. The show clearly had the budget to do big action scenes as shown in the flashbacks and ending, but had the restraint to realize that would cheapen the themes of the series, and I feel that restraint in something that is often missing in anime even in some of my favorite series. In my opinion this entire series was practically on par with a Ghibli film. It wasn’t afraid to dive deep into some of the most hopeless parts of life while always retaining this optimistic glow. Violet’s Journey was simple and straightforward but I was fully invested in it.
Love your review. I have the exact same admiration for Violet Evergarden. This is the best anime I have seen this year, and probably the last 5 years. Some of the episodes I rewatched more than 10 times. I mentioned somewhere that Violet was unable to describe what she felt about the brooch as she never learned the word beautiful. And I was also unable to find the word to describe how beautiful the show was.
I really understand that some people just want to watch shows where they would be entertained without having to draw any meaning to it but there is already so much of that and more will be released in the future. But Violet Evergarden literally gives you something you deserve to watch and learn from. The world of this show is filled with trauma and pain and misery, a world where somehow saw war and lived war like there was no tomorrow and having a hard time moving forward. Violet's story from this person who was a weapon of war to this person of her own will and resolve is one the best movements of character plot ever and she does this by learning from other people. It is still about Violet Evergarden, but she watches how people feel, live their lives and try to understand what it is to be a human being despite all the layers and the complexities which allows her to learn more about herself and also allow herself to feel more human than anything else. This journey in the lives of many characters shows her that there is more to life than accepting orders and just being someone's possession. And by learning all about it, she finds out more about herself and those words that Major Gilbert said to her. That's her journey and it is an interesting one, something worth watching and understanding and giving it time to resonate with you as a person and human being who too tries to gain some kind of growth by being around people of different backgrounds, lifestyles, stories and beliefs.
Yesterday morning, I woke up ready to relax my day off away, when I saw the review on Violet Evergarden made by GlassReflection. I decided to give it a shot. The following describes the 12 hours that came after my decision: Episode 1: Yeah, its entretaining enough Episode 3: I'll stay, got nothing better to do Episode 10: I haven't cried like this since 2002 Last episode: DON'T GO! DON'T LEAVE ME VIOLET!!!
ok, this made me cry violet evergarden made me cry and ur right we don't deserve this beautiful work of art but how else can we see if we have emotions or not
You talked about the art but bypassed the cinematography and more importantly, the art of the sound design of this entire show. You know what Matt, I'll just go make that video myself.
You couldn’t have said this any better!!! This show deserves so much appreciation. Beautiful and incredible. So much exception and love. I have to ask, do you think the major survived?
This anime holds a special place in my heart, it simply hits every key like you said every emotion and i think its just a spectacular anime on its own level. i was captivated by it as soon as the beginning of the first episode
About a few days ago I watched it, and I cried almost in every episode. I saw the show around but I thought it was just a boring slice of life kind of thing. The art, the characters, the way emotions are portrayed- and how the characters mimic what people would act like when in situations are all beautiful. I was in for a ride when I watched this. Each episode, even though just about 22 minutes, for me seemed to span for so much longer. It just has this ethereal air to it.
This anime is like everything I wanted in an anime, and more. This is my pick the best anime and my now personal favorite anime of all time. I legit cannot pass the emotional scenes without getting the chills, or sobbing, or both. The colors of the animation is just fantastic and the music....HOLY SHIT THE MUSIC!!! This anime has honestly the best music out of any anime. It really connects with the tone of the story. But yeah I wish I have more to say about this anime, but I'm just speechless. Violent Evergarden is the best and I will remember this till the day I die
violet evergarden truly has a special place in my heart and always will. i wholeheartedly agree, it is a masterpiece. personally i grew up ,similarly to violet, without any parental guidance and love. seeing her grow to understand her own worth and find it within herself to feel and know love while forgiving herself for her dark past is so utterly beautiful. This work of art gives me strength and hope.
I adore this show! I stole my heart as soon as I got into it. Never before have I found a show that so perfectly strikes every chord I want a narrative to hit!
Thank you for making this video. You reflected my thoughts about this show perfectly. I have never EVER been this moved by any show or movie. This show is honestly, in my opinion, too good for this world. But I'm glad it's here.
Happy i just randomly watched the show whilst browsing Netflix after never once hearing about it before. Damn that daughter and dead mother episode, damn it and how it's the only anime that's ever made me cry
as violet evergarden has show up i was so emotional and happy at the same time were the story teaches you and make you who you are , she's no ordinary girl .. she's has the letter that you really want to say to the person .
I’ve been praying for an update on a next release on anything dealing with Violet Evergarden. I have fallen in love with an anime like never before, Shed many tears like never before. It needs a return.. The cliff hanger, Has been killing me inside to out ever since it ended. Not even the special helped me understand it, We all need another season, We all are expecting it to be soon.
I watched violet evergarden shortly after it’s release and it is without a doubt one of my favorite animes ever. It had breathtaking scenery and wonderful music. The first 3 episodes were a tad slow, but it quickly picked up from there.
Omg I watched that anime and no joke the last like 4 episode I was a none stop crying mess, it was just so beautiful like you’re so right! I had to take a step back from anime for a good month cause of violet
It's almost been four year since I saw the first episode of Violet Evergarden . This show is dear to my heart not just it had a great story amazing animation was made from a story who loves making amazing shows . This show I didn't seen the Episode Violet wrote 50 years birthday card to Ann. This show saved my life and after four years later im still alive .
just binged this show today and loved every bit of it. To me pacing and story was just perfect. i think it was necessary to convey all those emotions and it also keeps it from being just an other anime. it makes it special. Loved all the cheracters. Animation was just breathtaking and music was on point. i say this is a masterpiece and one the most beautiful anime i have ever seen. i put it up there with kimi no nawa.
Her character art was virtually Saber from Fate Stay/Night 2006. Learning emotion and stuff. It's a bit cheesey at times, but it definitely be gut-wrenching sometimes, but mostly through the episodic stories. It's still good, but not as hyped up as it was before it aired.
funny because it wasn't even the main attention of everyone in the anime community after winter season ended. Everyone was jumping on SoraYori as the best winter 2018 and hold the spot of the strongest contender for AOY. Spring so far has nothing noteworthy (there's S;G 0 but that's more like the fan-base is strong rather than show is actually good, still hasn't ended but nothing particular astonishing about it.)
My most favorite element in Violet Evergarden was the total character development Violet had. You see her become more human than machine as she meets with all these different people, and how she is able to grasp on the idea and feeling of love as well as being able to understand the experiences she has had with those people and the major. Her transformation from this emotionless shell that feels like an automaton into a full fledged living being capable of having and comprehending emotion is what really brought this series to life in my opinion
I loved this anime so much and the story of it about love and empathy and how words can really touch us Violets experience of how she regrets killing people and how emotionless and cold she was in the beginning of the episode and all that war stuff really reminded me of vinland saga for me its another anime with good story and its underrated i hope you also review that too
Thank you for saying your thoughts. They resonated with me astoundingly and I'm glad that you love it just as much as I do, i.e. limitlessly. Thank you very much.
This Anime is very wholesome and good I felt something that I never felt before because of this i felt like it needed to carry on its something emotional about this series that hit me in my heart about what happened and the setting of it all I felt happy that it all went well and I had a feeling that I never wanted this to end and wanted to carry on with the story and I had a part that hit me emotionally because it actually happened to me my aunt passed away when I was 5 and I had the same feeling as that little girl when you lose someone that is so close to you it feels like you lost a part of yourself and that made me cry for a straight 30 minutes because it reminded me about her death and to make it worse it was a suicide this is one of the most things that I feel comfortable about and made me warm inside like how violet truly known how to discribe feelings
I love it, it's different from other anime I've seen where every episode relys on drama, whereas here it's satisfying to even just look and listen to, I myself found it emotional, in the way that we want Violet to feel but she can't she doesn't understand it. And if you do like drama and battles the flash backs in each scene add more tension and made me wonder what really happened to Violet to make her this way and why Major seemed to be the only one who made her feel anything, what happened in the war. Overall I truly loved it.
I also couldnt potray my feelings I have for this story! It evoked emotions within me with all those amazing spundtracks and details. The journey was just........
I love what Higgins said "nobody can make the things you did,but also nobody can take away the things you did to help the people" (not quite correct as I translated that for myself and didn't use the English dub. I watched it in German, hands down best version of the anime)
Violet Evergarden was truly a masterpiece I was not worthy of watching in my opinion, and the 2 things about it that I've seen since watching it is that 1. I'm not that big of a cryer, but I can definitely say that show made me cry at the end of most of the episodes AND movies, and 2. No anime currently that I have in my watch list at least or even know of is even going to come close to compairison and it kind of hurts to think that because it's almost ruining anime for me. I absolutely loved this show so much that no anime from this point forth will ever be good enough, on one hand, that's a good thing, because Violet Evergarden will now forever have a place in my heart, on the other, if I can't enjoy anime in it's diferent forms after this, then what?
This is the beauty of anime as a medium. Unlike movie, books, visual novels or games, the exaggeration of detail or scene (example is that from episode 10 with Violet leaping through the lake), they'll able to throw feels right into your face. This anime enhanced by movie cinematography makes even small subtlety convey message beautifully. I think Violet Evergarden can be rewarding for those people who can spot those subtlety. Anime 9/10, Review 9/10

Violet Evergarden, the series and the two movies, indeed is incredible.
man, this video really brought me back to when i watched Violet Evergarden for the first time. i drew tears just remembering it.
i’m literally tearing up looking at the scenes you put in this video.
the fatherly love that gilbert gave violet and when she had to letter that letter to the dead soldier’s family. i cried HARD
Im going to start watching it again today and yeah im going to cry.
Followed your advice and ended up binge watching all of season 1 last night.thanks for the amazing recommendation
This video needs to be seen by millions. Great video. Looking forward to the next video on Violet E
This anime is a masterpiece that no other anime could compete the greatness
DUDE I LOVE YOUR STUFF. I just recently started watching the show but I really liked it. I think you really hit the key points and this will surely help me continue to swath the show more carefully. Keep it up!
immediately after your video, I started watching Violet evergarden and it's fucking amazing thanks you for this amazing discovery!
I'm 2 years late to the party but I'm in love with this anime now too ❤ Awesome video btw
What a wonderful video! I've rewatched Violet Evergarden twice already and I'm sad that I didn't discover it earlier.
Thanks Matt, you just made me drop one more manly tear over this amazing show. Great anime, great review.
Really? Im disapointed with the comunity. Violet is a masterpiece.
I agree with you. geez.. i want the season 2 soon.
You took the words exactly out of my mouth, as cliche as it sounds. Truly thank you. This made me as happy as the show did :)
Yesterday morning, I woke up ready to relax my day off away, when I saw the review on Violet Evergarden made by GlassReflection. I decided to give it a shot. The following describes the 12 hours that came after my decision:
Episode 1: Yeah, its entretaining enough
Episode 3: I'll stay, got nothing better to do
Episode 10: I haven't cried like this since 2002
Last episode: DON'T GO! DON'T LEAVE ME VIOLET!!!
Good lord, Episode 10 and 11 made me cry - the ugly I-just-lost-my-friend type of crying.
ok, this made me cry violet evergarden made me cry and ur right we don't deserve this beautiful work of art but how else can we see if we have emotions or not
You talked about the art but bypassed the cinematography and more importantly, the art of the sound design of this entire show.
6:52... the sincerity in your voice.... made me tear up :')
This is why I subscribed to you. I couldn’t have said it better myself. Thank you.
This show is so amazing, wow, all your videos cover such good shows and movies and they always earn such special places in my heart, thank you
About a few days ago I watched it, and I cried almost in every episode.
I don’t know why, but you saying the bit about sending out a love letter at the end made me cry just a little.
Well that’s a lye a do know XD

This anime is like everything I wanted in an anime, and more. This is my pick the best anime and my now personal favorite anime of all time. I legit cannot pass the emotional scenes without getting the chills, or sobbing, or both. The colors of the animation is just fantastic and the music....HOLY SHIT THE MUSIC!!! This anime has honestly the best music out of any anime. It really connects with the tone of the story.
But yeah I wish I have more to say about this anime, but I'm just speechless. Violent Evergarden is the best and I will remember this till the day I die
Whoot! Proud to be a patron Matt!
the soundtrack "Rust" really touch my heart. Every time i listen, Every time I cry
I finished this anime yesterday, and it was ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC.
violet evergarden truly has a special place in my heart and always will. i wholeheartedly agree, it is a masterpiece.
personally i grew up ,similarly to violet, without any parental guidance and love. seeing her grow to understand her own worth and find it within herself to feel and know love while forgiving herself for her dark past is so utterly beautiful.
Thank you! Thank you! This is my favorite show ever! And you expressed how I felt when I watched the series.
Happy i just randomly watched the show whilst browsing Netflix after never once hearing about it before. Damn that daughter and dead mother episode, damn it and how it's the only anime that's ever made me cry
I think this is your best video essay so far imo.
Ah it was so good to find someone who loves Violet Evergarden just as much!💜
This is so beautiful, you captured almost everything!
Thank you so much for this video It brought tears to my eyes... this is a incredible show ! I loved it the moment I put it on ❤
as violet evergarden has show up i was so emotional and happy at the same time were the story teaches you and make you who you are , she's no ordinary girl .. she's has the letter that you really want to say to the person .
So good that you will ask for a little more episodes.
Violet evergarden so far my favorite anime this one deserve 20 out of 20
Love the video dude 👍
Some people told me that it was boring but I don't think so. I really like it!
just binged this show today and loved every bit of it.
Great video Violet evergarden was definitely the best show of winter 2018 and also a strong contender for anime of the year.
Not like it had any competition LOL
funny because it wasn't even the main attention of everyone in the anime community after winter season ended.
Episode 10 is the one that hits the hardest. I was almost in tears
Matteo The Great Same Here dude
I hope season 2 or something comes out. You are totally right. It is a masterpiece. new sub btw.
TheDark3 Violet Evergarden's movie is confirmed right now, but we have to wait until 2020
Hmm I might watch this one this week. Thanks for introducing this to me/us
I loved this anime so much and the story of it about love and empathy and how words can really touch us
Violets experience of how she regrets killing people and how emotionless and cold she was in the beginning of the episode and all that war stuff really reminded me of vinland saga for me its another anime with good story and its underrated i hope you also review that too
And this is why i love your channel.
Thank you for saying your thoughts. They resonated with me astoundingly and I'm glad that you love it just as much as I do, i.e. limitlessly. Thank you very much.
Is season 2 coming?
No, but an OVA and a movie has already released and 2nd movie is slated to release at a tentative date.
@@shaadmaanadilraza4593 not even 2021?
Not sure, considering how the situation with the pandemic is
@@shaadmaanadilraza4593 thank you for your help.
Your editing is drop dead amazing!! Wish I could edit like u
Resparked my addiction to anime, its brilliance cannot be overstated
I completely understand what you mean, when I finished it I was speechless I'm glad that someone else understands
You nailed it; Violet Crygarden is one of the best anime I’ve ever seen
I also couldnt potray my feelings I have for this story! It evoked emotions within me with all those amazing spundtracks and details. The journey was just........
Episode 10 is so so fantastic bc i was cring and i was smilling at the same time , it's so amazing !
I love what Higgins said "nobody can make the things you did,but also nobody can take away the things you did to help the people" (not quite correct as I translated that for myself and didn't use the English dub. I watched it in German, hands down best version of the anime)
I really loved this series. People can trash talk all they want ,but I don't think I'll ever change my mind.😊
Yesss!!! This anime is amazing and it needs more recognition!!
I barley saw the show today and couldn't stop watching it, yes it is Amazing...
Violet evergarden made me cry so many times i felt like i was there This Anime Is A master peace From the gods
i started crying just from looking at the pictures
This is the beauty of anime as a medium. Unlike movie, books, visual novels or games, the exaggeration of detail or scene (example is that from episode 10 with Violet leaping through the lake), they'll able to throw feels right into your face.
This anime enhanced by movie cinematography makes even small subtlety convey message beautifully.
I think Violet Evergarden can be rewarding for those people who can spot those subtlety.
Anime 9/10, Review 9/10
This was a tear jerker for me I loved the show so much 💕💕💕💕
