We are a family dedicated to adventure, conservation of wildlife, and all things nature. We are a reptile rescue and breeding facility for more than ten years, offering refuge to those who need it, and working everyday to protect the beautiful world of reptiles in any way we can. Here on our TH-cam channel you will be able to join us on our animal adventures while learning how to care for, protect, properly identify, feed and even breed many species of turtle, tortoise, snake and lizard. We even work with frogs and salamanders! We hope you enjoy our videos and help us share them with the world so we can continue to educate people of all ages about herpetology.
Chris and Casey Leone
Turtles and tortoises are amazing animals. Survivors.
I love turtles! Thank you for rescuing them 🍀
Each precious little (or plump) cute face, shows a sweet, original personality of its very own! 🐢🐢❤😊😀🐢🐢🐢
I love their little faces! And sometimes hisses. We're in the Memphis area so we have Eastern Boxies and I've moved tons of them across roads and they're all so adorable. Sometimes they'll close up shop and won't look at you and other times they're out trying to pinch you.
I actually had 2 tiny babies (seagulls were killing them off😢) but made a small bed witha towel but they decided the top of my head or under my knee was sleeping quarters. Not once did they make a mess. They'd march on my forehead, w little claws. That meant Aquarium Please! Cheers! 🐢🐢🐢❤❤❤
@@dead2802 Aww, Thank you for saving them!
I get so sad when turtles get sold illegally in little containers :(( I see it all the time in Chicago, poor babies.
If the state is serious about environmental conservation etc then they should really bẫn it....I guess you can write to your rep to at least give them a heads up.. maybe the city can ban it.
I believe res breeding is illegal in most canadian provinces.
i love the resilience of these animals as they wait patiently for you and Casey to bring them GST!
🐢💚
I rescued a 2 inch common snapper from under a customers car she was getting ready to leave luckily she spotted it before she left so I picked it up and took it to the natural swamp area behind her house ❤
- I've done that with snapping turtles && red ear sliders at my old house. I brought them to the swamp in the graveyard next to my house, there's tons of them there.
I love turtles 🐢 🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢you do an amazing job getting the word out about the maintenance of turtles 🐢 thank you 🙏
All of these turtles are really lucky that you will take care of them now❤
I don’t understand how the sale of red eared sliders isn’t universally banned
Banned in Europe, can't move, can't get, but some still emerge from somewhere. I have one since 20 years ago but can't get a friend for him😢 his from Ireland 🇮🇪
@herbamare740 I am sure you could catch one at a local body of water if you really wanted one. Red eared sliders are not a social turtle though so he is probably fine being alone.
I hope they never get banned
@@NickTheShark_ why?
@@feuerling I don't like the government banning animals. That is why I support USARK that helps stop many dumb reptiles, amphibians, fish, bans.
This is my favorite video of yours I’ve seen so far. Thank you for reiterating that pet aquatic turtles belong in ponds not tanks!
Glad that you are spreading these facts to people to leave turtles to their natural habitats.
Thank you for rescuing so many individuals 💚🙏🏻
Poor turtles!! I’m so glad you rescued all those babies! Yeah..we have a lot of res in Pennsylvania, too. Thank you for all you do 🙏🙏 🐢🐢🐢💚💚💚
There are probably Red Eared Sliders in Antarctica, Greenland, the summit of Mt Everest, the Mariana Trench, the Moon, Mars and under the ice in Europa.
LOL!!!!! I can confirm they're in the Mississippi River basin, the offshoots of the river.
They just spawn in sometimes, like subatomic particles spontaneously being created in a vacuum.
That poor turtle that doesn’t have part of her shell 😢 They are lucky to be in a place that takes care of them.
In the eno river by me in NC, there's a giant yellow belly male that rules the mill pond, with a bunch of little red ears in his harem. I'm not sure even what turtles should be there, but it's pretty clear that red ears are the new kings.
back in the 90's, walking the Eno frequently, I would see dozens of turtles in a day (I don't remember what kinds, just that the Eno was home to many, many turtles). I'm glad to hear they still have them
Thank you so much for helping them and for the Popcorn rescue for helping those in their care. You guys do a great job and a very needed job. Sending you Thanks and Love from Memphis, TN!~
Chris, Casey and family! Thank you for all you continue to do. The consistent uploads have always been a highlight of my day when they go up. YOU ROCK!!!
Millions of red ear sliders have been shipped all over the world for more than 70 years and during that time some have found enviroments that they can live and reproduce successfully.
Hope this little bit helps. Thanks for all you do!
The more I learn about sliders, especially red ears, the more I love them? Like, I'm pretty sure my current end goal for a house has a non-negotiable slider pond.
My aunt recently bought a house in South Carolina that had a catfish pond on it... she's been showing me pictures of all these turtles that hang out around the pond (I think that they're yellow bellied sliders?), and a juvenile alligator that took up residence
Great video! It's so important to highlight the fully grown size and setup requirements of these more common species in captivity.
Great work!
Red-eared sliders are breeding in the wild in Ontario, Canada.
I think worldwide it seems...ppl have dumped them in lakes for decades...I knew several families who did this... my dream is to open a res refuge in Quebec!
So sad so many are sold as pets, wish there was a ban on that particular practice. The terrapins are gorgeous, but again an issue. Chris, thanks for rescuing these innocent creatures, and for the mini class!🐢❤👍
THANK YOU for doing what you do!! I love turtles!! 🐢
Thank u for all u do for these animals❤. Great video😊
That’s how I started collecting Turtles back in the 1960’s Ringling Bros Barnum and Bailey Circus were selling Baby Red Eared Sliders🐢
So glad you and Casey are there for them.❤❤
Where are red-earred sliders native to?
There’s a pond store near my house that always has a tank with dozens of hatchling RES and soft shells. Not many people buy them but they always ONLY have tiny hatchlings. I wonder what they do with the unsold ones that are getting bigger?
Now I’m curious too! 😢
Sold them to be eaten? Released where they shouldn’t be? Etc.
Ask them.
Chris and Casey I don’t know how you do it! So many rescues. Beautiful creatures and it’s amazing what they can endure. So happy Tracie and I got to meet Otis at Animal Con! Even if he did try to eat her Croc shoe lol! 😂 ❤
Red Eared Sliders are the Norway Rats of the Reptile world! Glad you can help.
That’s the first time I’ve seen diamondback terrapins and they are just gorgeous animals.
Yes, Red-ears have been found in Alaska. They dig into the riverbank mud.
Omg that turtle with her shell missing 😮😢 That is wild... I would really like to know what happened there. But you can see she automatically holds that leg in. I'm glad she's somewhere safe. Shame about the sliders too.
I remember always seeing them being sold in 5 gallon buckets in Chinatown, NYC. Anything that crawled, swam, flew, or walked they would sell and eat
Yea, my niece bought one in Boston Chinatown, had it in a small container and it didn’t live long unfortunately (the way they sell them people will just keep them in water, no basking areas, not understanding the requirements and ecosystem needed to keep them healthy and happy)
Oh wow that diamondback is *so* beautiful, with the whites and the blacks/creams! Wow! Thank goodness they can all go to you for an experienced wonderful new home
Could you please make a video on Black Greek tortoises? 🙏🏻 I've done a lot of research online but the information is conflicting and I've learned so much from your channel. ❤
"Stewie" is a rescue from a Chinese restaurant where he was a hatchling red ear slider in a shipment of adult RES destined for soup. He was a tank mate of a female, who chewed his front feet off. They are re-generating now that the female is gone.
The red ears have been able to colonize in Canada. Southern Ontario and even here in Northwest Ontario which until recently wasn't conducive to their survival.
I’ve seen damaged turtle shells repaired with fiberglass and 3D printed material to the point the damage was hardly noticeable. Now you can find Red-eared sliders in the wild as far away as Japan.
I love red eared sliders…I had to rehome mine to a friend’s beautiful, protected pond when I became disabled. H/she was very sweet and friendly, ate from my hand, came up to see me as soon as I entered the room for neck rubs and full grown. It was very hard to do but much better for the turtle. We had a 50 gal tank but it really wasn’t big enough. Before I became sick we were going to have our own protected pond.
I’ll never understand why people see a turtle in the wild and automatically think they need to ‘rescue’ it or turn it into a pet…and then provide the poor animal the most atrocious care.
The diamondbacks look like dragon fruit! Will you release them at the shore?
❤❤❤ amazing creatires❤❤❤
Can we please please get some Otis comedy shorts. He is simply the most unique beautiful lovely turtle. I love hims.
Okay Chris where are red-eared sliders supposed to live where they are not an invasive species
Only some parts of the U.S.
Where do you end up releasing all the RES? are you going to do do a video of it?
I had a red eared slider... he outgrew his tank, so I upgraded him. The tank was too big to set on my table, though, and when I went in my room, I checked and he had passed. I don't know why... he had his lights and heaters and everything. All I can think of is he wasn't beside my desk and he couldn't interact with me, but I really don't know. Wished I did.
What do you do with all the sliders?
I was hoping they were going to let you keep those deformed Boxies.
On a different note what could control and enforcement look like if it were created from a herpers perspective? Who would enforce how would it be managed, both importation and sales and wild established populations? Is there a sterilization method for females or males or both. Is cross species breeding an issue like with red bellied or yellow sliders?
They use to sell them on the street in China town,NYC, they were in a little bowl on the sidewalk so sad..
Do you have room for all of them? Can you release the gorgeous terrapins?
What is a shame is that red ear rescues can't be rehabb'd and relocated into their native range.
This was rad
I completely understand why people fall for the red eared sliders, or the diamondback terrapin... But yeah, they are only cute for a short while. I would love a couple, myself. But I don't have the facilities!
I love red ear sliders and turtles in general. I want to take care of them all, even the big ones. Turtles are like babies to me. I wasn't to do everything for them. I wanna make a whole area for my turtles. I only have rescued turtles that were found on construction sites and they were babies. There was no water around so my dad brought them home
More content! More content!!! More more more! :-)
Where are red eared sliders really supposed to be from/living?
Some parts of north america, it would probably be easier to just google their native range.
@@feuerling thank you!
People are disgusting
Some people not all
2:03 she looks like yellow dragon fruit
That’s exactly what she looks like!
@ 5:00 that is wild! Does it feel rough or soft? Is the “missing” part painful? Is there “ghost” pains? Does it cause issues with too little pressure on organs? Could a shell be cut to reduce pressure on organs?
I unsub'd the second I found out about what he did. So glad I found your channel. Fight on
Unsubbed to who?
Red ear sliders are native where I live! The population is to high though, and people take them as a pet in tiny 20 gal and then dump it again when they realize they can’t care for it 😞
*too high
How do you KNOW the turtle you are buying is a legally, captive bred turtle?
Ask probing questions like hatch date, clutch size, lay date, incubation temp, naturally hatched outdoors or in an incubator, parent history, parents age.
Don’t buy from a place like Walmart or PetSmart for a start.
@@sharim If I was looking to get one (which I am not; I could not properly care for one at this time) I would probably be looking at a reptile show. That's the only place I have seen any for sale in decades.
@@dshobe720 So, basically the same questions you would ask when buying a puppy. I like to say that you should ask your puppy's breeder to tell you about their breeding program and if the answer is anything other than "pull up a chair; this will take all day" you've got the wrong breeder.

I’ve heard you mention in videos that their colors and patterns become mute when raised indoors, is this due to improper conditions indoors like lighting? Or unavoidable?
I'm willing to bet that it's a lack of proper UVA/UVB indoors. My tortoises are outside most of the year. Natural sunlight is best. Any amount of outside time they can get as a pet is going to be helpful. The bulbs are expensive and have to be replaced maybe twice a year or something (packaging will say). It adds up. I'm lucky to be in Texas.
I’d also say lack of lighting and possibly wrong diet.
@@albatraozgirl totally agree on the natural sunlight part. I have a three toe box turtle but because I live in a very dry and hot desert environment I can’t keep him outside. He’s got heat, UVB and a proper diet, up for a bulb change in a month for the UVB. I guess my main curiosity is that if everything is done right in captive conditions, but with artificial lighting VS real sunlight, how much of a visual effect that may have on the turtle.
@alukeofalltrades You can take them out for walks though. Let them get some sun for a little while. It's going to still be beneficial. When I lived in an apartment, I would take my kids to the playground and bring the tortoises. Just need to keep a vigilant eye.
@@albatraozgirl absolutely…they need light.
chicken can eat earth worm and you have a rare animal horn right there sir just let you know
4:01 If only the invasive raccoons in europe ate those turtles instead of the native wildlife
