I am having a very difficult time finding the words to express the tremendous depth of Lyle's talent. He was truly a gift to this world. There is no one who can come close to his spirit. Thank you, Lyle, for leaving us such a magnificent legacy to lift our souls. Rest easy. You did good. :)
This was on his self titled album, and I got to see him on the tour he did after he released it, in a small college theater. His soulful compositions and performance were magnificent. He had such an emotional touch on every keystroke that seemed like a direct manifestation of his spirit, breathing through each note. The world misses him.
Merci Lyle Mays, merci pour ce merveilleux voyage en ta compagnie, merci de toutes ses émotions partagées, tous ses concerts, ses nuits a vous écouter, merci du cadeau que vous nous avez fait. A bientôt...
Jason, I just came across your post from 2 years ago and you perfectly aligned two musicians that equated Lyle Mays playing. I was doing a bit of a deep dive on Pat & Lyle's music tonight and yes, a genius to be mourned.
He is eternal , one day everyone of us will get into this, we are all eternal, in this space time dimension he was in constant communication with the fluid cloud of the Universe wich is ONE, he had this enormous gift of genius , something coming from the ALWAYS and EVERYWHERE, which this actual world is missing but everything will be revealed, we can only thank this music MASTER for putting us in direct conjunction with eternity... Thank you Lyle...

We are still not aware of what the loss of Lyle represents in the music world, no just methinian. Brilliant, brilliant, master of modal progressions, technical control of dynamics on another planet. We miss you. Close to Home is a manifesto.
Lyle is not usually counted among Evans, Corea, Tyner, Jarrett, and Hancock, but I think there is no doubt he is just as influential. There is clearly a Mays' style that young pianists learn to emulate. One of 20th century's greatest jazz pianists. RIP Lyle and thank you for all your beautiful moments you gave us.
Rest in peace Lyle. Thank you for all of the beautiful and moving music over so many years. I was blessed to see you and Pat in concert a few times and I will never forget those concerts. May your music live on for many more people to enjoy and be inspired. You deserved to be much more well known as one of the greatest jazz pianists of all time.
My Sincere Condolences to all Family, Friends and Fans of this most incredible Human Being. Rest In Peace Brother Lyle Mays. Thank you for all of the wonderful musical memories. Peace also to Pat Metheny!
Every time that I listen to this I get a little moist in the eyes. This is the essence of Lyle 100%. So incredibly emotionally intelligent, so perfect in every way. As a pianist and composer Lyle’s influence on me personally was profound. I miss him dearly and his music continues to inspire me every day. I can listen to this forever!
So saddened to learn of the passing of Lyle Mays! As we know, he was a stellar keyboard virtuoso and composer. His sound was always heartfelt, gentle, and his keyboard approach possessed an inherent cinematic beauty that truly transported listeners to an ineffable sonic dimension! His solo work and his collaborations with Pat Metheny ("The Falcon and The Snowman" soundtrack; "Offramp", the list is endless) are for many of us, the soundtracks to our lives. Thank you for your immense talents, Mr. Lyle Mays. God bless you for your musical gifts and God bless your family! Your artistry will be forever cherished and tremendously appreciated!🎹🎼🎶🎵

Debussy + Bill Evans = Lyle Mays. My heart and senses mourn.
Early Jarrett too. More than Jarrett himself.
@JM - T/y the Debussy call, heard the name of course but can't say Classical composers even a wee bit knowledgeable about. Evans of course ...
