Mountain Exposure - An exposed hike along Collies Ledge

  • A mountain hike along Collies Ledge with some serious mountain exposure ...
WATCH NEXT- A scramble along the CMD Arete- • A Summit Camp and epic...
I got lots of interest in Collies Ledge from the Sgurr Alasdair video, so have made this one with as much footage of the Ledge as I could find. Apologies that most of it is helmet camera footage. Please note I only took my helmet off briefly to film myself walking along the ledge - not to be recommended! (also a small typo/duplication on the last screen naming the summits!!)
    Hope you enjoy the video

One person’s “delightful scramble” is anothers sheer terror. You also being a climber made it look like a stroll in the park , making it look easier than it actually is. Great vid anyway.

We've been as far as corrie laggan then back by the waterfall path. It was a shockingly good day weather wise and the walking was first class. A fantastic week without any real summits, but Skye has enough scenery at all levels. Although standing in corrie laggan drinking in the atmosphere was something special. Thanks for the reminder.

Beautiful video, shows a real sense of being there. First time I crossed it was during a guided walk with, the great, Gerry Ackroyd on the Coire Lagan round. I've been back a few times now and still think this is part of one of the best mountain walks in Scotland!

A very informative and a nicely put together account of this famous ledge.
The ledge bears the name of J. Norman Collie, an English scientist, mountaineer and explorer who was born in nearby Alderley Edge, Cheshire in 1859.
Those going for the first time should be aware that navigation is far from easy on Skye and if in doubt, a guide is a good option ;-)

Every film you post gets progressively more epic! I love the production value, some people just add them but in your film its actually really useful and has value. I don't even know what your name is but it's not important because you have the unique trait of being able to build friendship from the lens that is a skill that not many possess. From my wee comfy couch in Edinburgh, you're one of the reasons I choose to get up, pack my camping gear and get up into the mountains. Thanks for creating this channel. Sheer quality. :)

Fantastic video, Murray. I'm very pleased you delved into this spot in detail. It was on my short list for Skye this past May, and I'll certainly keep it near the top of said list for whenever I'm able to travel from Canada again... I was certainly scratching my head about the typo on the last panoramic shot, having been atop the misnamed summit (Sgurr a'Ghreadaidh) last spring! Thanks again for sharing.
Meant to comment on your last video: I fully support your choice to take a break, should you decide to do so! I always look forward to your videos, but we certainly don't need you scunnered (as me old ma would've said) from the unceasing effort! Great stuff Murray. Love the new graphics. I've done Collie's Ledge in both directions, the last time was a couple of years ago with the late Martin Moran during a big day on the ridge. It's worth pointing out that EVERY hand and foot hold should be tested before committing to it as there is a lot of loose rock, some of which came away in my hands on more than one occasion.
So, the big question is: Where will YOUR first adventure be after Friday???

I enjoyed that, Murray. So much so I went back and watched your Sgurr Alasdair video again. Have you stopped using the drone so much in more recent videos?

This has been on my ''to do'' list ever since that last video. Also on that same list:
    1) not dying because my confidence has way exceeded my skill level;
    2) checking in with point 1 before doing Collies ledge.
    But you have me convinced.
By the way, if you get up to the halfway point but then need mountain rescue to get you down - is that considered a half of the job done?

Those rocks are FAR too loose lol I'd be way more worried about that than my footwork up there. The variables multiply exponentially when the terrain is increasingly unstable, broken up and loose like that.
But, what an awesome view. It would definitely be worth the "butterflies" to witness first hand. There's no doubt about that. 👍

Probably the best video of Collies Ledge on TH-cam that I've seen. I've been on the ridge countless times but only had a good view once lol.
Do you know if people ever go the opposite direction on the ledge?
Also, what camera do you use?
    Thanks, great video.

As a Munroist and one who has walked extensively in the British Isles, I think the Skye Cuiilin are unique in the British Isles. Perhaps the Twelve Bens of Connemara or the Rhum Cuillin can give some poor competition.

@@ScotlandsMountains Having watched and really enjoyed your Collie's Ledge vlog I've checked out quite a few of your others. All of the same high quality but the most inspirational has to be Sgurr na Stri on Skye. It's been on my bucket list for a few years now and I'm hoping this year is the one. Currently suffering extra lockdown in Leicester though 😞. When I get to go it will be with a screenshot of your drone footage of the pitch so I can find it as I'm guessing I will not be spoilt for choice! Keep up the great work, you have a natural delivery style 👍

A fantastic addition to the video from last year. The drone footage is incredible, it certainly shows how the vastness of the full ridge. Have you traversed the full ridge? if so how long did it take? hope you're well Murray!

Hi Ryan - did the traverse of the Cuillin ridge way back in 2006 or 07 (can’t remember ) was an amazing experience - wasn’t videoing things then but made a collage of it here -
