I had the good fortune to meet and train with Grand master Jim Fung for a brief time in 1991. I initially had asked him if he could find out any information about my Grandfather who study a style known as Dragon Tiger fist through his Hong Kong connections. And so we started talking about his upbringing in Hong Kong and fighting on the streets plus his training in Wing Chun and the differences between the needs of Australian students to Hong Kong students plus other things . Before i had to leave he told me his street fighting rules and his personal belief in the secret to Wing Chun, Of all the Masters i have meet and trained with he is my favourite.
@Xeil I am glad you liked it. I am a level one (which is equilavent to black belt in karate) in this academy. In wing chun, we attack and defend at the same time!!!!
You also need zero room to fight, my Sifu was challenged by a friend of his who studied Taekwondo, Sifu agreed with one condition, that he choose where the fight would take place. When he chose a bathroom stall, his friend dropped the challenge.
@no name usj it is not seen as ego. It is to demonstrate that Wing Chun can have the advantage in enclosed spaces where the other arts would be at a disadvantage and limited in movements.
actually its the opposite, wing chun fighters need alot of space because they usually fight opponents bigger then they are (hence where the form originated from) Wing Chun is as much about foot work as it is about other core concepts he just did not address it here for some reason.
I like wing chun, but I think a lot of the concept can be applied to most martial arts. I understand it's not about the strongest attacks, but rather non telegraphed and immediate counters. However I think it's a little lacking on the offensive side from what i've viewed in a lot of demonstrations. Which is fine. I'm a karate guy so i'm keen on striking, but i've learned a lot from the relaxation video's, too. It's improved my technique. It's also a style which has a lot of defense :).
Dear International Wing Chun Academy :), I would like to say, thank you, to you, for taking the time, energy and effort to both upload and share this video with the youtube family. Thank You!
wing chun will save your life on the street, this is the real reason one trains is for self defense, unlike a gun you forget under the car seat or night stand ,this goes with you, being attacked moving around on the street is not fun,but this art will give you an edge that definitely works, you might get cut or hurt but you will survive the attack, your opponent will be healing for a long time, these blows and blocks work, and it is excellent exercise that is built in,you won't be sorry
I found that as I grew in experience stance became less defined and squared. Sure I am comfortable in square stance but I also find situations where right stance or even left stance will put my opponent at a disadvantage because of their physical strengths or limits. Just a thought for advanced students to ponder.
That's correct - it's a common misconception that Wing Chun exponents should be locked into a square-on stance. Fights are dynamic environments, and one will typically transition between square and staggered stances in combat, depending on positioning.
That varies a lot depending on what style of karate you choose. I do Kyokushin, which is very, very physical, a lot of emphasis being put on actually withstanding a beating and doing damage to the opponent. Competitions in kyokushin, and sparring in general, is usually full contact and no protection, except for no strikes to the head. This means unless you're really fast at kicking to the head, a fight takes around 2 minutes. Shotokan though is more one-hit-and-done fight
This is very well done. A lot of time and effort went in to clear, concise explanation and visually understandable illustration. Thanks for this. As a student of the Calasanz system, where we combine many techniques and styles into a practical application, this video is a good fit for us as well. To all who worked to make this, again, thanks.
i do TKD and wing chun. and trust me. its beast. i've been in a fight and wing chun is only way i can fight once one of my classmate tried to do a Mid section take down. and kneed him in the face and he quickly picked himself up and tries to punch me and I used Tan sao on the inside and then did my chain punches, and once he tried to make space I quickly did a front kick. and knock him down. He wasnt unconscious but he didnt tried to get up after that. so Tbh wing chun is only for self defense and is an Art in china. its not meant for cage fighting for those filty animals that Always compares everything to UFC or mma. some Martial arts isnt created for that matter. so keep it to yourself. and stop disrespecting one of the chinese main cultures.
The rules od competitions limits the styles, the entire system of wing chun or kung fu then breaks apart, because they weren't design for safe fighting, but to kill, it is easy to see, if you watch a wing chung o kung fu practitioner in those competitions, his o her movements ended up being almost identical to kickboxing or the martial art that the rules of the competition are for .
SquidPlaysGames | IOS/PC ugh using bot of those and having some om hands is soooo hard to fight. especially if there is anyyyy goof jiu jitsu in there. pak fuk kick punch armlock to whatever.
Tell me how JJ or BJJ deals with multiple opponents then. Once you go to the ground, youre dead. Grappling is amazing in 1v1 situations, such as cage fights, but it fails on the street when you get attacked by more than one person.
the more stiff you are the more youre gonna get hit. if you have the time to set up your guard your opponent will also. if youre still that stiff at that point youre most probably gonna take alot of hits because fighting is dynamic. also this guard is more of a display stance. the actual fighting stance is similar to a western boxing stance but more oriented towards the centerline
@Xeil cool. A huge part of Wing Chun is about power generation- not just getting in first, but ending fights quickly with a powerful blow. As I understand it, karate is usually more from an aerobic fitness/ "orthodox" muscular strength base, whereas WC is basically from relaxation- but as my teacher said, the biophysics are much the same at an elite level.
As a Wing Chun amateur practicioner I have to be honest and admit that the center line theory is very useful, and the Wing Chun Horse stance is perfect to deflect attacks. However, I have faced many troubles with leg swipes, due to the center line giving less equilibrium when defending them. Therefore, I have adopted a "one fott upwards, one foot backward, front hip" stance. I wpuld love to hear the experiences of other Wing Chung Practicioners.
Nice summary of some important features, but I have to respectfully disagree on one point: I’d never want to stay square on in a fight. That would just be inviting a kick to the groin. Otherwise, I thought everything else was spot on.
This is a martial art style that I have been looking for. it has all the qualities I have been searching for in a fighting technique. and I hear it's also super effective for physical and mental health. Which is honestly something that I can benefit from.
Many martial arts are good for mental health as they require discipline and focus. It does have a solid foundation and good theory & concepts so I do vouch for it.
Been practicing this since I suffered a severe injury (That revealed I had cancer) and basically put me out of hte amateur boxing game. I have extensive experience in martial arts and boxing, totaling over 100 fights. I have recently adopted Wing Chung (I have NO CHOICE but to be an autodidact right now, and with my experience I can only hope I can at least grasp the basics), I also am 2 years into hardcore training via my dad who is an EX-SEAL (who is a master of SAS/SEAL combat technique)
Wing chun has huge benefits, I'm going to watch learn and play around with your technique a bit. If you are a smaller person train a grappling art as well tho. I'm a smaller guy, and I can beat bigger guys. You have to work tho. what is strong to you doesn't work so you have to tire them and there's ways trust me... But small cant beat big with striking alone.
as with all things you have variables the stop kicks and methods used to kick out the openent at the supporting knee are of course banned in mma how ever it's not to say just cause you know these techniques you can pull them off . I would strongly suggest trying these techniques on a larger person charging you and protected in red man baton training armour at full contact before assuming it works in real situations. also to be sure a good stamp to the ankle prevents them coming back if you did not break the knee
studied many styles of kung fu since i was 12 wing chun lau gar jeet kune do to name a few and also in my time ive been in military and learned their combat cqb training brazilian jiu jitsu boxing and mma! kung fu is always the base/core that i work from its very effective! but while doin mma the teacher saw my style instantly and everytime i turned up to train they slagged off kung fu callin it useless (in a respectful manner ofc i wasnt offended im not a snow flake lol) but if you watch alot of other styles yt vids they class kung fu as useless in a real life situation when i dont feel it is at all! i like to learn a style remove what i feel is not working for me and replace it with something that does! .....the phrase "be like water!" always comes to mind
I used to work with a guy that was a Wing Chun master, although I didn't know it at the time. One day, I was walking past him, and then I simply found myself laying on the ground. There was no sense of inertia, and I didn't feel any physical contact.......it was as though he stopped time, gently laid me on the ground, and then started time again. I just found myself laying there, in a serene daze as he casually walked off, chuckling to himself! Honestly, it was the most surreal and deeply impressive thing that anyone's ever done to me. I picked myself up and followed him, desperate to know what had just happened.....that's when he told me all about it. I still find myself wishing I'd gone along to one of his classes some time, ha!!!

My way of fighting is just simply anticipating. Very easy
I came here in the past after watching a movie with Wing Chun action, now I came back here after seeing Classroom Of The Elite Ayanokouji kick ass. Can't wait to see the next reason to why I'll come back here in the future, maybe a music video?
I Liked the Video, thank you very much. Id much rather be fast, powerful & accurate and work close in then way out like boxing. I have to check your other videos out now. Thanks again for the Wing Chung Core Concepts
I would argue that the square stance only work if you're prepared to respond... One bad timed block and your balance will be disrupted. Despite having bent legs for lower center of gravity; you would easily be unblanced from a push or strike to the front. I am a big fan of defense simulatenous with attack though as it wastes less time in altercations and helps end the conflict faster. As long as your shots are powerful and well placed to the jaw.
A general misconception is that a Wing Chun exponent is bound to be in the square stance at all times. As fights are fluid, a Wing Chun exponent will typically move from the square stance and between a number of blade stances (as seen in the Chum Kiu and Biu Jee Forms) when advancing on an opponent. Movement in the blade stances should be as natural as possible, akin to how one would walk normally.
I like this Kung Fu style, very ancestral, with extreme speed and mastering and straightful position. I also like Shaolin,Aikido,Viet Vo Dao. The guy with light blue shirt looks like Donnie Yen.
Tribute to Wing Chun and to its followers! I hope you will accept a small piece of advice on giving better idea of the centerline: Marking a white line on the floor between the two opponents would give view of who is standing where. Very much depends on the school of karate. Many schools did fall into a role of more sport and/or aerobic art; but there are many schools and systems which teach very functional self defense style. Even the sport oriented schools offer a strong core of applicable training, just have to find it.

By a purist who later told me the best fighter were tai fighters. Of which he fought professionally in that career undefeated for 7 years. Insaw him split a 6’ back in half with a side kick. He was annoyed at us pushing the bag. After i tore it in half he said i kick so hard i break your nose on your knees. He was 55 when he did this.
Great video..just subbed. Ive been doing Judo for years, now just taken on a Krav class as well. I can see a bit of what we learn at Krav in Wing Chun. Awesome MA.
It sucks... I want to learn this art so bad but I have no one to practice with, I could watch the videos and practice the forms all day. However, it doesn't amount to a hill of beans if I don't have a training partner... curse living in a small town away from all the dojos that teach this awesome martial art lol
You only need a partner to do Chi Sao with, and that's how I started. And don't rule out the women in your life: with all the p*ssy grabbin' goin' on now, every woman, no every girl, from the age of eight should be practiced and fluent in Wing Chun.
hellow guy I real like this kind of self defense but I know nothing how can I learn alone at home without a teacher because I'm at medical school so I spend more time in studying but I honestly like to have even some skills to protect myself @ from Tanzania if there is video for beginers you can help me
i love wing chun i would love to learn wing chun is there any classes in clondalkin dublin 22 please let me know if you can. respectfully yours audrey maher. fan of wing chun.
Gotta feel the motion(s) of your opponent(s) very precisely (natural instincts utilized) in reality, or I don't think it got no limitation in all aspects.
i noticed when they are fighting, those moves were fast as lightning, In fact it was a little bit frightening But they fought with expert timing. There was funky Billy Chin and little Sammy Chung He said here comes the big boss, let's get it on We took a bow and made a stand, started swinging with the hand The sudden motion made me skip now we're into a brand new trip. Now thats wing chun fighting, those moves are fast as lightning.
2:14 Great reflexes coordination, attacking and defending at the same time is gold
All martial arts are based in science and physiological concepts. The problem is not all teachers know this.
The chinese martial arts contain knowledge thats be won in centuries.

True.. we also observe the long distance as well.
@no name usj it is not seen as ego. It is to demonstrate that Wing Chun can have the advantage in enclosed spaces where the other arts would be at a disadvantage and limited in movements.
Sounds like a good way to destroy a bathroom stall.
actually its the opposite, wing chun fighters need alot of space because they usually fight opponents bigger then they are (hence where the form originated from) Wing Chun is as much about foot work as it is about other core concepts he just did not address it here for some reason.
"Stay with what comes, follow what leaves, and strike when our hand is freed"...
don't miss doing in a circle motion

Dear International Wing Chun Academy :), I would like to say, thank you, to you, for taking the time, energy and effort to both upload and share this video with the youtube family. Thank You!
Power and humility...I love this style.

what do you do if somebody points a gun at you at a safe distance? WingChun will not protect you
Disenda W neither will your gun that's still tucked away. It's like asking what to do when you're already stabbed in the neck.
I found that as I grew in experience stance became less defined and squared. Sure I am comfortable in square stance but I also find situations where right stance or even left stance will put my opponent at a disadvantage because of their physical strengths or limits. Look at what Bruce Lee does with his stance he constantly moves…
That's correct - it's a common misconception that Wing Chun exponents should be locked into a square-on stance. Fights are dynamic environments, and one will typically transition between square and staggered stances in combat, depending on positioning.

Yes, this was very sweet to notice!
Emily, what is so funny?
2:14 reminds me of that scene from the matrix where neo becomes the one and blocks smiths strikes with ease

"You explained this nice"
Thanks for these videos!
Great explanation of an often misunderstood concept. It answers a lot of my wing chun questions!
One of the best videos I've ever watched. Really well done! your Wing Chun is realistic, effective and frills-free. Greetings from Italy!
I always like Wing Chun fighting style, it is nice theory.

I really really wish their was Wing chun here in Anchorage Alaska
My understanding of the centerline theory is three fold center line, mother line, and meridian line.
i love wing chun from indonesia🇮🇩
Hi there. am new to this channel. Thanks for the classes.
he look like Donnie yen
studied many styles of kung fu since i was 12 wing chun lau gar jeet kune do to name a few and also in my time ive been in military and learned their combat cqb training brazilian jiu jitsu boxing and mma!
kung fu is always the base/core that i work from its very effective! but while doin mma the teacher saw my style instantly and everytime i turned up to train they slagged off kung fu callin it useless (in a respectful manner ofc i wasnt offended im not a snow flake lol)
but if you watch alot of other styles yt vids they class kung fu as useless in a real life situation when i dont feel it is at all! i like to learn a style remove what i feel is not working for me and replace it with something that does! .....the phrase "be like water!" always comes to mind
Absorb what's useful, discard what's useless, and add what is essentially your own.
I used to work with a guy that was a Wing Chun master, although I didn't know it at the time. One day, I was walking past him, and then I simply found myself laying on the ground. I wish I could learn too... I'm damn interested not because of self defense technique but makes your body and mind strong .....

Beautiful display
1:55 did that really happened? I thought Bruce was the only one who could generate such power
Are you out there Chino? Sure you've mastered by now . Miss you friend .
Wach full thank you for shareing this vidio this great vidio 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Im thinking about taking up wing chun after seeing this
This theories are great.
I like this Kung Fu style, very ancestral, with extreme speed and mastering and straightful position.
I also like Shaolin,Aikido,Viet Vo Dao.

Tribute to Wing Chun and to its followers!
I hope you will accept a small piece of advice on giving better idea of the centerline:
Marking a white line on the floor between the two opponents would give view of who is standing where.
Looking on the opponents from above would be give a 3D image of reality.
Best regards and many success.
Paul - former instructor of martial arts.
I've been saying it for years Wing Chun is the ass kicking art

Excellent presentation and compilation! Thanks for posting and keep them coming!
Great video
Very much depends on the school of karate. Many schools did fall into a role of more sport and/or aerobic art; but there are many schools and systems which teach very functional self defense style. Even the sport oriented schools offer a strong core of applicable training, just have to find it.
This is kung fu💀
When you call everything martial art related "karate" - you're doomed. Are you still alive, Tim? Maybe you're a bit more learned now.
Wow... Amazing technique
awesome video..I love wing chun
I need a support to subscribe to my channel I am a fighter express myself.
Check out the jkd on my channel, inspired by decades of are wing chun
Excellent video. I learned this in the 80’s before donny yen. Or ip man. Or anything like that. Chao soa and the northern styles were taught at my school.
I need to start learning this. Like, last week.
Great video..just subbed. Ive been doing Judo for years, now just taken on a Krav class as well.
I can see a bit of what we learn at Krav in Wing Chun.
Awesome MA.
not surprised someone doing judo goes for win chun :D i guess you are doing this to have fun and meditation purposes
Actually krav has taken a lot of win Chun's techniques.
Awesome! Thanks for posting!
bonjour je suis de france moi aussi je fait du wing chun c'est un très bon sport de défence je me suis abonnée a votre chaine
It sucks... I want to learn this art so bad but I have no one to practice with, I could watch the videos and practice the forms all day. Actually, imitating the forms from good instructors, although not as good as face to face training, you can still learn a lot, so don't give up.
I love wing chun
it's not fair that in australia, they have 2 of the best wing chun grandmasters from HK teaching there.
websaint well everything in australia is already trying to kill them so might as well send some protection :D (a joke)
damn I wanna go to australia so I can learn Wing chun
Very interesting and informative.
Cool, awesome,, relax, focus, save the energy & nailed it..
I love to train wing tsun *.*!

Did you find a school? Are you a wing chun or other martial art practitioner by now? Hopefully so.
Gotta feel the motion(s) of your opponent(s) very precisely (natural instincts utilized) in reality, or I don't think it got no limitation in all aspects.

Техничное боевое искусство стиль Вин чун
I am from to Ecuador and I like this martial art
i noticed when they are fighting, those moves were fast as lightning, In fact it was a little bit frightening
But they fought with expert timing. There was funky Billy Chin and little Sammy Chung
He said here comes the big boss, let's get it on We took a bow and made a stand, started swinging with the hand The sudden motion made me skip now we're into a brand new trip. Now thats wing chun fighting, those moves are fast as lightning.
Thank you Sifu
