Kudos to this instructor ! I enjoyed his fluidness and the torquing motion of the waist that a lot of practitioners of WC avoid and try to rely on just arm strength or back bracing .
I trained in wing Chun for a while. I learned that the sunfist, vertical punch... when in close...is incredibly fast and powerful. I was hitting my Sao bao (inner tube filled with pea gravel) this morning. I prefer traditional kickboxing and jiu jitsu, but I'm sold on the wing Chun punch.
I am not sure why everyone compares MMA to Wing Chun. One is a "mix of martial arts", one is a "martial art". And the MMA supporters seem not to grasp that Wing Chun CAN be a part of MMA.
Jimmy Salinas lool hahahahaha exactly all these wing chun guys get completely battered in competition lol and they look baffled and confused by the beat down, like I just spend 30 years of my life training for nothing hahahahaha.that shit is always hilarious

As a 9th dan wing chun great grand master I have adquired enough skills to beat my 10 year old nephew at a slapping fight, he never saw it coming.......I had to blind fold him......he kicks my ass.
If people think Wing Chun is ineffective in MMA, just know there is a difference between someone with Boxing and BJJ and someone with Boxing, BJJ, and Wing Chun. When they have those fundamental bases and then a traditional hybrid martial art like wing chun with it, I believe that boxing will make the wing chun striking more effective and bjj will make the wing chun grappling more effective thereby allowing the wing chun to be functional and make a difference as apposed to if the fighter merely had just boxing and bjj
Boxing has much harder, more effective strikes and wrestling and JJ have superior grapples. Anyone doing either regularly will be an athlete. You won't be doing Wing Chun. I don't see a combat benefit at all. It's just a lifestyle choice.
@@madwitchdoctor7216 The combat benefit is this: Wing Chun helps unify your body's muscles and skeletal structures so they are more efficient. If you watch boxers a fair amount use a lot of energy to fight. If you watch this sifu move, he only uses exactly what is needed to get the job done. There's less reliance on muscle and endurance; more reliance on technique and skeletal alignment---> combined with quick and strategic execution. There's a lot more going on here than meets the eye.
MMA has been around for close to 30 years now, and I've still seen ZERO Wing Chun fight footage that didn't look laughable. Anyone can look good in a controlled environment doing their schtick. Arts that are actually effective are those that train with real resistance, period. While I appreciate traditional arts, the problem is that people who hang out a shingle to teach these arts are inherently making the claim that the person studying with them will learn how to defend themselves, and that's highly disingenuous. In your example, boxing and BJJ need Wing Chun like a fish needs a bicycle, and the person who knows them -- unlike the poor untrained sod who knocks on the door of the Wing Chun kwoon -- knows enough to see that Wing Chun is impractical.
@@tylerscott2116 LOL OMG. You chunners are delusional. Maybe those guys do WC because they have two legs and walk upright like WC people too? The way that you're looking at martial arts is narrow-minded. It isn't about "winning" or "losing" or even "fighting". Yes, these techniques (and all martial arts in general) came out of a need to create a self-defense system to protect yourself in the event of a fight, but martial arts have evolved to much more than that, and fighting to protect yourself is not the only context in which martial arts can be practiced. No martial artist worth their weight in salt ever will tell you that their system is best for a street fight, or for every scenario in self defense. I don't practice martial arts because I want to win fights or because I see myself getting into altercations in public anytime soon. I practice martial arts to stay in shape, to improve my mind-body connection, to learn and improve on the techniques taught by the respective martial arts system, and to use those techniques to improve my life and fortify my mental health. It looks the way it looks between master and his students because you're looking at two people that are practicing the same martial arts under one system (taught by this master). No one would argue that if the master fought someone on the street, it would look VERY different. No one made that claim. So while you sit at your keyboard and feel good about yourself for "debunking" martial arts, these folks are learning something, and getting in good physical and mental health. You want to go out and win a fight? Go ahead and go out and beat someone's brains out. Hope that makes you happy, but not everyone is out looking for an altercation to prove what an amazing fighter they are, and almost every I've ever met practicing martial arts in any form is definitely NOT learning martial arts for that purpose.
If I told you I was going to teach you to swim without going in the water you would laugh at me. But here we are again, trying to learn how to fight without fighting. No sparring, no resistance. Dead practice, compliant drills and theory. Standing next to the pool doing strokes in the air with full confidence that if you fall into the water you are going to take off like an Olympic swimmer. Inane.

abigail fear That is true, and he is a personal hero to me in many ways, but never forget that when Bruce Lee came to America and discovered Western boxing he realized that controlling the centerline is nearly impossible with a moving target and that's when he began to adopt many Western style fighting tactics.
Wing Chun is mostly shit, because Yip Man was a lousy teacher. He only had five good disciples, each with their own specialization (one of which was Bruce Lee's mentor, since Yip Man already stopped teaching by then). Two of which are specialized in one of the weapons. Also Bruce Lee did already fight boxers in high school in Hong Kong. Bruce Lee did not finish his Wing Chun curriculum before he was sent to the US by his father.
Everyone may saying this video is not paying attention. He's going into more than just Wing Chun, I dont know what he's saying. However, I see Japanese Jujitsu, boxing punches, non-Wing Chun kick and a take down. Obviously, most of what you guys are saying is irrelevant
"Wing Chun doesnt work in MMA" Tell that to Tony Ferguson. He mixes a bit of wing chun into his diverse style. MMA has evolved alot sense the early days. It started out as basically Grappling and Muay thai (and boxing) were what worked. Then over the next years we see stuff from Tkd and Karate working its way back in. Hell some guys even use some capoeara. Point is. Its not the style thats effective, all styles have somthing to teach. Its the person using them and how they apply it.
While I'm willing to accept that Tony Ferguson has trained in Wing Chun, the number of times he has actually used Wing Chun in a real fight is zero. Because it doesn't work. He was what everyone else does for their standup; he uses kickboxing.
@@KodyXXVll Anderson Silva is primarily a jiu jitsu/muay thai fighter. He threw in some tae kwon do, capoeira, and wing chun, but that is hardly his primary fighting style. Silva could completely remove what little wing chun he uses and still demolish any Wing Chun practitioner.
It's all about how you use it, like with any other style. If you stick to forms all the time or use a "use THIS when THIS happens" mindset then you're gonna get your ass kicked. My teachers and I stray FAR from the form when we fight. In class, we become uniform and do the same exact techniques identically. But when we spar or practice self defense application, we each fight in unique ways. My sifu's fighting looks like Bruce Lee's rare sparring footage. My sihing uses more hapkido and kenpo karate. I use more JKD and KFM.
@@enby_kensei Post some videos of sparring please. I would like to see. Also if you can post a sparring match against someone doing a different martial art that would be cool too. Thanks
This style is hard to use when a person knows how to kick and box. When strikes are direct and retracts quickly, Wing Chun is at a disadvantage. Try testing it against a MMA fighter before you judge. Using it against a regular untrained person would be fine.
jjcs1381 its just an Art Form how these guys practice it. Every martial art is basically useless in fights unless you do it train in sparring. These folks are also with no chance against a good judoka
I always say if a art form isn't practiced with full contact to learn how to use it then its useless. Muay Thai, kickboxing, boxing all use full contact which is why you can use those forms in MMA or other combat sports. If W.C is practiced with full contact vs other styles to learn how to use it then yes it's legit but stuff like this is all for show. Looks good but isn't legit
Wing Chun is an in fighting style. I’ve done it for 20+ years (as a hobby not because it’s the best) and boxing and a bit of wrestling. Real Wing Chun look like bare knuckle boxing - same stance, same mirroring, same hip-elbow connection, same focus on attack. I’ve sparred various styles and the two hardest things to deal with were boxers and Muai Thai - because they are used to getting hit and keeping going. One thing a lot of people (including WC people) get wrong is that there are no techniques in WC - it’s about a series of ‘games’ that teach you reflexive responses. These can only be tested and used in sparring, otherwise it’s like learning a vocabulary without grammar.

Wing-Chun has some fight application but Bruce Lee knew it was very limited hence Lee studied many arts and combined their useful techniques into JKD. No offense but no one fights like they are practicing in the street.
JKD is a formulation of the many forms that created JKD " the way of the intercepting fist" but people forget this was not his first form he studied. Tai chi was his first practice.
Joe D What Bruce Lee later came to admit was that he didn’t learn Ip Man’s complete Wing Chun system. What he may have said about the system may have been true, but for him to make that statement giving folks the impression that he learned and mastered the full system was to say the least untruthful.

@@tomanderson6140 If Jon Jones, Anderson Silva, Tony Ferguson, and Conor McGregor have used wing chun techniques in a fight, it's functional.

Always looks very good on a video clip, between the master and his own students.
Inane.
I bet he cant stand even just a minute agaist real MMA fighter

Wing Chun is mostly shit, because Yip Man was a lousy teacher. He only had five good disciples, each with their own specialization (one of which was Bruce Lee's mentor, since Yip Man already stopped teaching by then).
Why don't you try fighting this guy...

Yeah but if you dont know Wing Chun you can't really do Jeet Kune Do since that is the main backbone of the system.
Joe D What Bruce Lee later came to admit was that he didn’t learn Ip Man’s complete Wing Chun system. What he may have said about the system may have been true, but for him to make that statement giving folks the impression that he learned and mastered the full system was to say the least untruthful.
