      Shearing the side of a car would not be a reasonable response to being a few inches into the street car's path of travel.

    I remember one day when I was like 16 years old or so, I was waiting for a tram near a metro station in the morning along with lots of other people. And then the tram came and stuck like 10 meters before the stop because some assholes never cared to check if there was enough space between their rear bumper and the tram track. And after like a couple of minutes some patrolling cops stopped nearby to take a look and they probably didn't want to bother with the towing service and stuff, so they just gathered some guys and pushed the damn ride closer to the curb to make way for the tram. Me and some more guys just pushed the other car and the way was clear.

    Ironic that this popped up in my TH-cam recommendations today, more than 11 years after the video was posted.
    I had an argument in the center of the city yesterday while my girlfriend and I were having a coffee. A man who parked his car so far away from the pavement (sidewalk) that when his wife got out of the passenger side, I commented to my girlfriend that the poor woman would need a taxi to deliver her to the kerb. The wife giggled about it (apparently her hearing was pretty good, but I was not exactly talking sotto voce), but when she told her hubby about is as they were walking off he got very huffy and came back demanding to know what my problem was (she seemed like a lovely lady, although maybe stirring the pot a bit to provoke a reaction from him, although she did seem quite embarrassed by the reaction). When I stood up and he realised he was talking to someone who was a head taller than him, significantly wider across the shoulders although only about half his size at the waist, and pointed out the tram that was at this point about 30 meters from his car, and slowing down because he had parked so far away from the kerb that he was blocking it, he got a bit sheepish and reparked properly, with not a tow or parking ticket in sight.

You have to really suck if you can't park within a foot from the curb. Or, the driver probably doesn't even care. That parking spot is almost as wide as the street itself, there should be no reason why the car isn't within the lines.

    This happened when I was on my way to work years ago. The team driver said he couldn't do anything before his boss arrived and called a towing truck.
    One passenger asked if we couldn't just, you know, move the car ourselves. I'm not I'm liberty to ask you that said the driver.
    "Alright lads! The passenger said and we all got out and fucking lifted the car a meter our so to the side.
    Huge grins on everyone's face the rest of the way. I really wonder what the people that got on next thought had happened.

    This goes on in my city too. Selfish/stupid drivers blocking the tram system with their parking. Not only does it block the trams, but it blocks all the cars behind the trams that can't overtake because of oncoming traffic. Causes lots of delays to innocent parties wanting to get from A to B. It should be pointed out, these passengers on the tram cannot get off because of health and safety reasons, so they're held up by 'one driver' thinking that their prioties are more important than several other people. Should be heavily fined, and criminally prosecuted for causing wilfull obstruction, maybe sit their test again in order to get their license back..

Car driver was obviously not a Melbournian and didn't follow the "left lane to turn right across the tram tracks" rule. Tram driver gave the usual warning bell, and again, and then at slow speed, just kept going.

    My city Adelaide, Australia used Portland as an example of how street cars are good for the city. We now have continual traffic jams, fire services can't access some areas any more as we have raised platforms so that wheel chair users can roll straight onboard, we have lost the ability to turn off the roads crossing over a tram line, so people just drive straight through, businesses are shutting down. It's a complete f--- up. Trams (street cars) have put my city back 60 years or more. We had trams in the early 1900's and they were pulled up in the 1960's due to the congestion and accidents they caused.

    As an owner of the model that followed that style Voyager/Caravan, I would not be surprised if we find out the left front wheel was touching the kerb. They're pretty wide, and plenty of parking spots are marked narrower then they should be. Getting from the drivers seat to the side doors through between the front seats becomes second nature in some parking lots, because the side doors slide open in places where there's not enough room to open the front doors normally.

    City planner could have come up with a better design. People may not have realized how much it mattered that they strictly stay inside the white line. You know, we often park in stalls and sometimes go over the line and think, "Eh, it's just a inch, the person who parks next to me will still have space." In this case, there is no space beyond the line. I'm not saying the driver couldn't have done a better job, but the design could be better to avoid this type of thing altogether.

    • @lynnlablanc
      @lynnlablanc 7 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      If you check the other cars parked along the way, there is plenty of space to park the car correctly. The driver just didn't gave nothing about it all and parked as he wished. And hopefully learned that is a no-go.

    • @FCFordLord
      @FCFordLord 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    • @lynnlablanc
      @lynnlablanc 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yep, you are correct. The driver had to check surroundings anyway, I think he knows he have a larger car and maybe he had overlook the space between car and rails. The good thing is, the service driver tried to be nice and checked if the bus can deal with it without have to call any assistance. Bad luck.

    • @kellyrayburn4093
      @kellyrayburn4093 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It's not that much wider, and there appeared to be room to the left of the van. To all appearances, he could have parked inside the line. But let's just say that he couldn't have. In that case, he should *NOT* have parked there. The tram has the right-of-way at all times so long as it is on the rails because it *is* on rails. It is limited in where it can go. So the tram employee was being very courteous, making an effort to avoid having the vehicle towed *which he didn't have to do*.

    • @krollpeter
      @krollpeter 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Do they charge the van's owner for the delay on the streetcar service ?
    Here if there's an accident on a train crossing due to car drivers negligence not only they have to pay for the damage to the train, they also face a fine for delaying the service..

      The car is towed. Pretty sure the driver would have to pay something to get his car back.

    • @RaymondHng
      @RaymondHng 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If that happened in San Francisco, the owner of the towed car will have to pay $500 to $800 to get his car back.

    I blame the city engineer for having such such small margin.

    • @hundragant
      @hundragant 5 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      Why? He clearly parked poorly and didn't bother to inspect his parking job.
      Maybe you're just defending them 'cause you don't park very well yourself.

    • @joevsyou
      @joevsyou 5 ปีที่แล้ว +58

      Virgo Heart lol. Yes its poor parking job. However the car is only slightly over the line & the street car can't get by. To me that is poor planning by the city for having such a small margin. You can't even open the car door without being over the tracks.
      All i am saying is the city should of planned better and taken the curb in other foot or two.

      Yet everyone else parked in that area managed to park within the lines!! Screw that idiot!!

    • @Manoahmanolo
      @Manoahmanolo 5 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Indeed. There is so much space in the us, why would you use such small margins. Hell, I live in the (very small) Netherlands and we don't have this problem, while also having bike lanes.

      @@markw3598 "Oh the others did it right so its not a problem at all." Except it is a problem, whenever someone comes along and parks like an idiot there the tram gets delayed for however long it takes for a tow truck to come. Meaning tons of people will be late to work just because of one idiot that can't park. Thats bad street design to me.

    What happens when a badly designed streetcar line, someone driving while Oregonian and an overly-polite streetcar operator meet?

    • @iemmons
      @iemmons 10 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      not sure how it's a bad design because some idiot can park poorly

    • @BalooUriza
      @BalooUriza 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They could have put the tracks in the center lane instead of the left lane, and just have it change to the curb lane at platforms.

      You will se that it has to run there because it would hit oncomming traffic going over the dottet line.

    • @BalooUriza
      @BalooUriza 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mats Norway: No. No it wouldn't. It's running on a one-way street in the US, so white lines separate lanes going the same direction, not opposite. Safe to say I'm very familiar with the street given I used to live on it.

      POTATO POTATO POTATO POTATO POTATO POTATO POTATO dubstep is great if it’s good dubstep... but it’s not good for a towing video, it’s really weird

    Long ago there was a pickup truck parked right in the middle of the tracks. Street car shows up, dings the bell, then goes to the big horn. 2 minutes later truck driver leaves the doughnut shop, gets in the truck slowly as though nothing's wrong... Street car ding's the bell AND THE GUY MOTIONS TO THE STREET CAR TO GO AROUND!! Then the street car blew the big horn again long and he finally figured it out. 25 years ago but...😂 Some just don't bother to understand anything about street cars.

    What did the tow truck do with the car (minivan) after he moved it out of the way? Park it in another spot?
