I work for a railroad where some of our tracks are used by Amtrak and when I first started I was told to be on the lookout for them because when they come through they haul ass lol Yeah they come thundering through so don’t stand too close to the platform. That yellow line is there for a reason and yes you can easily get clipped by a train. And contrary to what everyone believes, no you don’t always hear them coming. And things like snow can dampen the sound of moving trains. Sometimes you hear a faint hiss and sometimes, you don’t. They honk (mostly) but there’s always someone with their noise canceling earphones in. Look both ways because they travel in both directions usually. And just be safe out there people, nothing is worth your life and no one ever beats a train.

That's actually a real thing. People who are recording video concentrate on what they're seeing on the screen or in a viewfinder and, because the view is different, don't really relate what they're seeing to what's happening in the real world. Camera operators in war zones have gotten killed because they were so wrapped up in documenting what was happening, they didn't realize that it was time to run.

This reminds me of an incident when i was a teen and a friend of mine (a couple years older) was giving me and a couple other friends a ride home in his dad's car right after a heavy downpour. Anyway, we came up to a huge puddle that covered the road almost out to the centerline, there was a woman on the sidewalk, might have been waiting on the bus and my friend didn't slow down enough, next all I saw was a wall of water that looked exactly like that of a slalom water skier heading for this lady and totally soaked her head to foot. I looked at my friend in horror, who didn't even stop to apologize, but was laughing while he drove away and said dude that was so fucked up. We're not friends anymore, I don't have room in my life for people of low character.

The problem is, pressed snow hurts. The fragments of ice, stones, and trash that people love to throw on the rails (like metal pieces, wood pieces, shards of glass bottles etc) could be fatal at those speeds.
You're absolutely correct. So the physics equation for this is Force = Mass × Acceleration, and the physics still apply whether it's snow or not: snow still has mass, and when it's accelerated by the train pushing it, it indeed will produce a force.

They only plow train tracks after a few feet of snow, the train is so heavy that little bit of snow couldn't come close to derailing or damaging the train. The station attendants should've warned the people. You can see several experienced snowriders in the video moved right before the train pulled in, clearly they know the drill.
@@mikeef747 honestly you shouldn’t need a warning for something so obvious. A big train is coming and the tracks in the station are covered in snow. Anybody with half a brain should be able to recognize that the train is gonna throw that snow all over the platform when it comes in
The train should never have been going that fast. It’s clearly a hazard to everyone and apparently people don’t just understand that this might happen.
@@punman5392 anyone with half a brain wouldn't be alive, as you need BOTH halves of your brain to live.

Line them up by the train track...
it scares me, how such ignorant people can vote
@Agent Smith ok
Scary!!
I really wish we could see the after shot!
That's actually very dangerous to be in close proximity of a train plowing snow, because what if there was a hard object buried in the snow. It could serve as a lethal projectile. That goes for Bush hogging, ice breaking, and path clearing with trackors, boats, and heavy machinery etc.
Also any frozen snow/ice
It's dangerous to stand that close to the tracks, period.
@@xenostim lmao
@@bonnieporter4474 it's using a giant rotary mower on a tractor to smash down vegetation including saplings and tree stumps. Great fun but I have hit endless bricks a few concrete blocks and an abandoned bicycle so it's not good to be stood near one when it's working.
Law suits. What if you have your back turned?
You're standing at the edge thinking, "oh man this is gonna be good. I'm gonna make sure I'm in a good spot to get this on tape. All these other people standing back because they're scared of a little snow, well I'm built different" and then the train arrives and you see the wall of pure white materializing before you and the big chunks of ice flying through the air, and you begin to realize that maybe this was a little more pain than you signed up for, but it's too late and the only thing you can do now is turn and cower behind your camera, your pride broken as you realize you are no different than anyone else on that platform, taking cover in the wake of this train that isn't going to slow down anytime soon
cool
"Tape"
As you avert your head, cowering in the storm of cold snow, you suddenly see yourself back in high school, years ago. The classroom is brightly lit on a summer day. Alice is saying something to you with a smile, but you can't hear it. You dated her for a year or so but it didn't work out. You were too busy and impatient, always looking for new things. Whatever happened to her? For some reason the new things often end in disappointment. Why do you always have to act so counter productive? As your shoulder hits the hard pavement, your arm awkwardly raised in protection of your phone you think to yourself "I will stop running from myself today, today will be different.".
Lmaoo well said
Dumb comment
The whole time I’m thinking “do these people not know they’re in the splash zone?” The answer was no. No they didn’t.
Edit: plz stop replying lol
Since there were camera phones in the hands of almost everyone standing near the tracks, I think they did know.
@@LadyMellott well if they knew that whole building was about to be filled with snow, and continued to stand right beside the tracks, then they aren’t too bright….I live in PA, having snow packed into your clothes is NOT fun lol
Only two people moved to a safe area lol
The problem is, pressed snow hurts. The fragments of ice, stones, and trash that people love to throw on the rails (like metal pieces, wood pieces, shards of glass bottles etc) could be fatal at those speeds.
@@Korovkin_Pavel yeah agreed/exactly, if you watch the lady closest to the camera she looks like she gets slammed lol I’m sure most of it was just wind and the timing of it all but it’s definitely not a cool place to be. No pun intended lol

What did anyone on the platform think was going to happen? And, depending on the snow type, that could've been a light dusting with super chilled light snow or getting limbs broken by heavy, wet or or frozen snow. I'm from Alaska, I'm versed in the properties of snow. That was potentially dangerous as hell.
this is the result of making people to zombies by the television, print media and Handy over decades.
