What Does It Look Like Sawing 6" x 6" Cants?

  • The day prior to this episode the Kohler engine on my Woodland Mills started acting up. I do not believe the engine itself has anything wrong with it. From what i am hearing from those who have small engine experience, it sounds as if there may be either catamination in the fuel or perhaps some time of obstruction. There have been other suggestions as to what may be causing the issue. A couple of things were done to see if perhaps the issue could be eliminated. Therefore, this day was more or less a trial run for the saw just to see if perhaps a deeper dive is going to be required to get back to milling for production. It was a short day, however, the day proved what one might call a success. Check it out.

Glad it ran good for you. And for showing how you spot the pith with your jack and power tool.Must have missed that in the past.

Thanks. I know how we are, we hit the FF remote button and sometimes miss little things. Take care ...

I'm glad to hear the mill is running better. Keep us updated. If it acts up again, make a short video and get it out so we can help sooner. Great content as always and keep up the good work.

I like the "front porch" idea. We need more country stores with front porches. Or the friendliness to sit on the front porch of our homes with neighbors.

Thanks for the perspective. And thanks for joining me on the front porch. Appreciate it!

Are you using high test fuel in your mill . I use to put regular unleaded in my hm 126 I switched to high test and it runs a lot better .High test is not supposed to have any ethanol in it.

I use Ethanol Free Only. I think it is 90+ octane. Thanks!

@@cabotbluegill Good on you mate. Wish I had started a bit sooner but looks as if all is going to work out well with virtually all the pine logs saved. Best to you.

Is that red pine you are milling ? I have just been given around 2500 feet of red pine that got blown over in a storm. It is not native here in Vermont was planted in many areas as part of a reforest program from the 1950s Many of these trees are still partial rooted in the ground the needles are still green but getting the logs out much of the bark is falling off . I will be sawing these logs into framing material 2x4 and 2x6

Here in the South, we have a species of pine which has traits similar to your red pine, the Scotch or Scotts Pine. The vast majority of our pines are Loblolly, Long Leaf, Ponderosa, simply what many refer to as Forest Pine, sometimes referred to as Yellow Pine. I do not recall anyone referring to any pines we have as Red Pine. Thinking the Piedmont/foothills section of NC is too far south for this species.
