  • Dragon isn't the most advanced voice control app for Android, but it does do a great job of the basics and actually rivals Google Now when it comes to searching for information due to it's tabbed results. Has a few nice unique features like the pop-up sms.
    Dragon is available for FREE on Google Play here: play.google.com/store/apps/de...

    Glad you liked the review. They added a couple of additional features since I did it. It's definitely the best free basic voice control.

      You're welcome. It's a pretty old video so I would imagine it might be a bit different and hopefully improved even more.

    I tried utter! a while back but wasn't impressed - it still needed a lot work. Perhaps I'll give it another go. I do like the way it's sort of "floating" and available no matter where you are without interrupting what you're doing. I'll try to check it out and review it in the next month or so.

    It works without wifi, yes - but you need a data connection which is no problem if you have a LTE phone and a good provider.

    Sorry to hear that. It works fine on my phone. I mainly just use it for texting since Google Now doesn't allow you to change/edit text prior to sending. You might want to check out utter! - it's free and doesn't do texting much different than Google Now at the moment, but probably will get better with time. However, there are a number of great things it can do and it uses very little resources. I've been playing around with it a lot recently.

    Another goof! Your demo on Eva is really super. The developer should hire you... Guess not if he is getting such great reviews for free. How does its search compare to dragon . voice?

    Yep, that is correct. Same company that made vlingo. The updated it right after my review and added even more features. Sorry it's not available there. I guess anything voice activated would be the most complex to have in multiple languages since it requires a voice to text engine for each language.

  • @hollywoodfrodo
    @hollywoodfrodo  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah, I know, but that doesn't happen with Google (even before they had on-device services). They had an update right after I did this review that added even more really cool features.

    Well, they updated it shortly after this review and added some nice features. Also, it's free. So I'd recommend installing it, give it a try for a week and then decide to keep it or not. No harm in trying.

    cool review on Dragon Mobile Assistant. how do I get that shortcut on my phone? I have an s2... I guess that only works with the s3 and up.

    • @hollywoodfrodo
      @hollywoodfrodo  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      What shortcut do you mean? Dragon itself is on the Play Store, but it may not be compatible with the S2...

    • @LadanSoodmand
      @LadanSoodmand 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      At the beginning of your clip into the first few seconds, I saw that you added Dragon to the center of your phone, just like where Siri's button is. Is this something I can do on my s2, or is it there by default? it is at 1:15, where you said you have a shortcut by using the home and return buttons.

    Nice review for a 6 yr old app that is no longer in the App store. Do you have any other apps that are no longer available to review.

      "Published on Mar 8, 2013" - All videos have published dates so you can see how new/old they are... Old APK's are often still available on 3rd party hosted sites & sometimes people still want to see how they work.

    the problem is not dragon's speech recognition it's their servers. the speech engine is not on the device, it's on their servers. that's why sometimes it times out without transcribing.

    Per your advice I not only purchased an Android but I installed the Dragon app. But it keeps spelling my sister's name "Jenny".. my sister's name is "Ginny." Any advice?

    • @hollywoodfrodo
      @hollywoodfrodo  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Steve Burke Off the bat, I'd suggest maybe adding a "nickname" to Ginny in your contacts app. Make the nickname "Jenny" - that way even if it gets it wrong, it'll still know the contact. Otherwise, check settings to see if there's an option to "substitute" a word so when it hears "Jenny" it auto-changes it to "Ginny" - I don't have it installed currently or I would check for you. Lastly, email customer support and ask them how to fix the issue - there's gotta be a way!

      Not nearly as elaborate as those, but good at what it does. Designed for a more specific purpose.

  • @hollywoodfrodo
    @hollywoodfrodo  9 ปีที่แล้ว

    @WhiteRavenHak- You can use them all on the phone, but not effectively. You can only have one always listening assistant of course. These days I use Google Now paired with AutoVoice and Tasker. AutoVoice and Tasker let you build your own assistant basically. Google Now, of course, does many things on its own and on Android 4.4 can be triggered from any screen and is always listening. AutoVoice can intercept Google Now commands to trigger other things.
    The down side is you have to spend a LOT of time basically programming AutoVoice to do what you want so it's not for everyone. Even I haven't had the time to set up many things.
    There is still not a "perfect" voice assistant. :-( If Google, Apple, and Microsoft could set aside differences and work together we would have a voice assistant that was so much better and more advanced than any one of those alone are now...

    @hollywoodfrodo please do a review on utter!

  • @hollywoodfrodo
    @hollywoodfrodo  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah, Google Now is amazing in it's search ability, but the practical functionality as a Voice Assistant is sorely lacking. Dragon is much better for that. Although if you want the mother of all voice assistants AVX takes the cake, but it is a bit pricey.

      I don't do a lot of app reviews these days and as for assistants I pretty much only use Google Assistant now. But I'll keep that one on the radar and see...

      I'd love to, but I don't forsee myself having the time to do that anytime soon. Besides I tried SpeakToIt a while ago and wasn't impressed. Actually the 2 best Voice Assistants are Utter! and AVX.

    Superior in many ways to Google Now. I have both on my Razr HD and Dragon is better for hands-free use.
