  • Today we find a more permanent home for the Ender 3 by building the famed Ikea Lack Enclosure. The version I decided to make was from MilosFec on thingiverse, link below for full instructions and parts.
    www.thingiverse.com/thing:470...
    Parts list:
    2x Ikea Lack side table: www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/lack-sid...
    2x 50x50cm 4mm/2mm thick acrylic glass panels
    4x 25x50cm 4mm/2mm thick acrylic glass panels
    32x M4 nut
    32x M4x16 bolts (M4x12 for 2mm acrylic)
    16x 4x70 wood screw
    16x 4x40 wood screw
    LED Aluminium holder/diffuser: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...
    LED light strip: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...
    (Any LED light strips would be suitable especially if you do not need the USB power and instead use a buck converter connected directly to the power supply)
    Optional Parts:
    M4 washers
    4-8 magnets
    4-8 magnet holders
    door handles
    Music courtesy of Epidemic Sound (www.epidemicsound.com)
    Intro/Outro: Be free with me (Chez remix)(instrumental version) - Siine
    Timelapses 1&2: Come out now - Issue AB
    Timelapses 3&4: Dazzle - dreem

    I am in the middle of building a lack 3d printer enclosure for my Creality Ender 3V2 - this was really helpful.. I didn't consider using different legs for the bottom table! Thank you for creating this and sharing it!

      I have actually changed my enclosure now based on a reddit suggestion, It cost's a little more than the Lack enclosure but not a huge amount when taking the Perspex sides into account. I will be uploading a new video soon about the upgrades and changes I have made since my last video upload so look out for that. It may change your mind on building a Lack enclosure.

    Very nice. I like this better than most of the others I've seen. Curious as to where & how you have mounted your filament spool. Mine is on rollers inside a sealed box with silica gel packs. It sits on top. Printed pass through pieces for the box, & table top.

    I too made Ikea enclosure last summer. It reduces Ender 3s fan and stepper noise, keep temperature higher, system got not so much dust and there is room up of printer for filaments etc stuff. Some work but worth of it. Btw i made 3x Lack top each other, room for things in several level.

      That is awesome. I was thinking of building another one on top for my new Ender 3 v2 but I need to figure out how to run the filament to both printers before I do. 🤔

      Glad you liked it, That was an oversight on my part and I have now added the LED strips, and aluminium LED strip holders I purchased from amazon into the video description. Although a lot of people do use the IKEA LEDBERG led lights, I wanted something that was simple and I had the ability to change so I used the ones in the description as they are USB powered and could take advantage of the USB hub upgrade I installed, rather than having to install a buck converter to power the lights from the power supply.

      Thanks, glad you like it. I have the printed cable chain shown in my first video here: th-cam.com/video/hMeGVjhVPjY/w-d-xo.html
      It keeps everything nice and neat and even if I had the acrylic panels on it wouldn't hit the back of the enclosure, if it did, you can shorten the chain as it is fully modular. The stl file for the cable mod I used can be found here: www.thingiverse.com/thing:2920060

    1. Can you link which ender 3 Hot_end and Cooling upgrades you have made / used for your printer?
    2. Will this work with the Cable_Chain mod or will the cable chain mod protrude trough the back-panel where as the flexible cable just bends/touches the acrylic?
    3. how is the PLA holding up after nearly a year? (i'm still running stock Hot-End and extruder so printing PETG/ABS will still be difficult / low quality).
    TY for your replies!.
    the current printer placement got girlfriend to promote me (instead of the other way round )
    to find another storage-space for my printer.. :D ofcourse i directly guided this towards a dedicated enclosure stand :3 (^-^)

    Nice. How are you going to feed filament?

    • @bespokenerd
      @bespokenerd  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will eventually be making a hole in the top, with a 3D printed tube holding a piece of bowden tube to feed the filament down, but I haven't decided whether or not to convert the printer to a direct drive. If I do, then the hole will need to be in a different place than if I leave it as is. So at the moment, as I don't have the acrylic panels on, it feeds from the top back of the enclosure around the edge.

    How about mount the screen on the exterior for ease of use. Also perhaps a USB extension and mount that next to the screen. Great build otherwise.

  • @patrickbodine1300
    @patrickbodine1300 ปีที่แล้ว

    In order to bring the cost down, I will be using plain wood paneling on the back and maybe on the sides as well. IMHO, the reason for a cabinet is to control the airspace surrounding the printer making for a stable, breeze-less environment, thereby helping to prevent warpage. Also I have no need for colored lights. They do not contribute to the print quality and only add to the expense. Not a "tight bastard", simply retired on a fixed income. 😉👍

    @royjohansen3730 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Very good, instructive and enjoyable! Congratulations on a very nice-looking enclosure. (Btw, "lack" - despite the ridiculously low price - has nothing to do with "dearth". It's Swedish for "lacquer" or "varnish". :-) )

    • @bespokenerd
      @bespokenerd  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well the original plan was to have the filament feed from the top, but then I got a second printer so that ruined the plan. 🤣 However, I have been busy upgrading from the Lack enclosure to something better. I am hoping to do a video on it soon, but life has been a bit hectic at the moment so unfortunately TH-cam has taken a back seat. Hopefully I will have new video soon with some awesome improvements!

    Started watching this to figure out what a Lack Enclosure is. Still not sure.

    • @bespokenerd
      @bespokenerd  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The name comes from the "Lack" side table used in the design of it. In the video info there is a link to the IKEA website where they can be purchased. Building this enclosure for the Ender 3 became popular due to how cheap the overall cost is. Around £10 of Filament, £12 for the 2 tables and about £2 for all the fittings!
