Thank you for the video. This worked well with an update from 16GB to 32GB. I used two "Kingston 16 Gt 3200 Mhz DDR4" (Part Number: KCP432SD8/16) memory modules. The memory is down clocked to 2400MHz by the HP Elitebook 840 G5.
Oh my gosh thank you! I was expecting something complicated but you make it seem simple and esay to understand!! Tried it and it worked thank you so much! 😊
You can, you will want to match the ram as close as possible. Its cheaper to buy them in pairs and I would use the other ram for another computer so I did it that way.
Great video very easy to follow just next time I suggest you get some ESD wrist straps or at least touch metal before you touch any internal components to release any static electricity you might have because you can damage some parts if you shock them with static electricity (even if you don't see/feel the shock specially since you're doing it on the carpet). Sorry I'm a computer tech and I had to mention that for others doing their own upgrades.
Ive always heard about the dangers from static but never had anything happen yet. 😭 I'm sure it will one day then I will learn my lesson. I'll look into the wrist straps 🙏 appreciate the tips.
So my Hp is similar but has a Hard drive but as well noticed an empty slot for an SSD stick as you had in this video. Could I Upgrade to the SSD stick or should I swap out the standard HDD for an SSD HDD?
Just added additional memory and my computer is boosting the hard drive longer than expected. Not turning back on. How long could it take to turn back on?
i have a question i see that you picked the ram with 2666mt/s is it ok to take the 3200mt/s version ? and is it worth the cost ? and also i'm on the 850 g6 and my ram speed is 2400mHz so maybe it can change. thank you
Crucial store advisor was helpful to check the compatible SSD and RAMS, so you could go to crucial website check the compatible ones, and could buy from Amazon India, the link is provided in their website.
Im having difficulty getting the ram sticks to come out. I have 16 gigs and I want to upgrade to 32 gigs.

Thanks for a good and clear video. I have ordered one refurbised one with 16gb and 512gb ssd with i7 cpu. Have seen some other guide and noone is starting with removing the battery connection. I mean, we all learnt that we always should start with remove power. As one already mentioned, use an anti static wrist band is always a good idea. Better to stay safe than being sorry afterwards. When reading the specifikation on HP, they write that 2x16GB is maximum but have some tried to use sticks with lover CAS and higher freq, will it work and will it benefit in some better performance? 1TB of m2 disk is stated to be max but I have seen at corsair upgrade site that 2TB should work fine too.
My lap is EliteBook 8460p intel i7-2660M | 8GB , i saw in the HP website they saying can upgrade to 16GB. but i have checked with wmic command with cmd it saying max capacity is 8GB. So what is the real max capacity to Upgrade rams?
@@roderickverduijn2750 Did you order this model with a dedicated graphics card? Usually these Elitebooks just have Intel graphics that are onboard the cpu.
Hey Eric, I hope you are well. Thanks for the video. I have a similar laptop which has overheating problems. What could be the cause of overheating? Is the fan broken or it could be something different? Do you have a video demonstrating fan replacement? Note: I have never opened it before since I bought it in the UK, about 2 years ago. Thanks!
From Experience it could possibly be the fan and vent need to be cleaned. The air vent on the side pushed out air from the fan being located on the bottom the laptop causing dust, lint etc to get inside. I had a laptop always shut off and that was the fix. Give it a try. Best of luck
I have the same laptop but it's super slow with an 8gb DDR4 RAM and a 256SSD. Its taking more than 30sec to boot to tee password and once you are in the system it response very slow to operations and it also take time to copy files. How can I solve this problem.?
No one else is concerned that he's doing this on CARPET with no static protection. Great way to ruin a fairly expensive Laptop. Good content but bad execution.
Thanks man! I have opened the G5 before but this one was a pain. I needed one of those plastic razor blades but a old credit card worked fine.
I wish all laptops were this easy to open and fix. Apple likes to solder on the ram and SSD making it impossible for the average person to replace.
Thank You, Sir.
Today, you taught me HOW to upgrade
the Ram in my HP Elite Laptop.
You Are AWESOME!!!
You are welcome sir
Love your anti-static mat
Thanks! I would have never found by myself how to open the case :)
You are welcome ☺️

Nice! Well done, great content, excellent edit.
Thanks =)
Thanks for the video. Very helpful, especially on the not try to remove the screws out 😅
Good video. With both sides of the module being identical you can figure out which side is up by lining up the notch with the slit.
Hey, why do you take the original memory out?
Can we just add another one to slot 2? What is the original memory brand, isn't it a kingston?

@@thecollegepicker Understood. But if I want to match the original one, can you tell me which one I must buy?

that is just an old wives tale. you don't need those straps anymore
the way he flip his laptop back to the table my heart feels it : (
Thanks brother,,,,it's helpful 😄
how do you enable the finger print on elite book 840 G5?
doing this on carpet, brave man
is there any slot to fit my old hdd as well inside this hp elitebook 840 g5 ?
Does it have to be two new rams or you can just leave the old one in and then add another 8gb ram to the original one that was installed
Same question.
Hey! I was wondering if you need to take out the battery or unplug it when changing RAM or SSD?
It's a good idea to protect the machine.
I would recomend to do that, but haven't seen anyone do that in their videos.
Thank you very much for the info
You are welcome 🤗
Can you add 2 32GB DDR4 3200 in this laptop?
thank you 😭😭😭, ily.
Yw. Ilyt 🤝

Can we add gpu this notebook?
Hey man do you have a link on where you got the 16gb ram compatible with this laptop?
YoI thought I put one in the description
can the ram memory be from 2 different companies but at the same speed?
Thanks! Looks a lot like working on a Macbook Pro
You are welcome

Hi , i am juste wondering if i Can upgrade memory from 16gb to 32gb(2x16) . Thanks you
should easily work, I'm actually wondering about 64GB myself.
What's the biggest ram you can fit? I saw 32gb on eBay AU 32GB 2X16GB DDR4-2666MHZ 21300s SO-DIMM Laptop Memory For HP EliteBook 840 G5 $120 au

Can you share us the command you use in cmd to know the max capacity of ram allow in the system?
Can you upgrade the graphics card for gaming?
Depends on the game and the demands on what you need.

Thanks! I guess even with 32GB the Vital soft synthesizer will still only run the simpler presets on this machine. What a resource hog Vital seems.
Why the hell would you skip over removal of old RAM part?
It will prompt you again after restart
without unpluging battery ? madness...
It won't hurt.
Why did he buy two new ram memory 8 x 2 16gb, especially when there’s an exist 8gb in one of memory slot?
They come cheaper in pairs and I'll use the other one for another computer
But can we use the old one and the new one?
