Collins was on fire in the 80's, with songwriting, producing, drum playing, singing. This is a fun song, not obviously deep, like some of his others, but a light, fun one.
Great Team! Love how they are both featured. It is like a buddy flick with their wives behind them in that silly scene. Plus, Phil Collins is playing drums in the soundtrack.
I love this song!! I remember when it first came out on MTV. Phil is so fun to watch with his silliness. I just saw Genesis when they came on tour a couple years ago, and although Phil still nails the vocals, it was sad to see him having to sit in a chair to do the concert. So many fond memories of his music.
Wow - some of the very BEST videos in music came out of the 80's. Thriller, Take on Me, Dancing on the Ceiling, ANYTHING by Duran Duran - were ALL very fresh, exciting, and innovating. Love THIS video and song. The Phillips have an amazing bond - and made a great duet.
Now- Phil Collins in 2008 doing In the Air Tonight live is one of the most watched of all time. It’s just a masterpiece! Cant wait to see your reaction- the suspense and buildup!
5:30 An homage to the outfits of “Earth, Wind & Fire”. And don’t forget that on EVERY Phil Collins song (& most GENESIS albums) it’s ALWAYS Phil on drums, at least on original recordings. 👍🥁🥂
Don't see duets between two dudes anymore. Hard to do. I'm not Phil Collins fan and never listened to Philip Bailey but this was one of the few songs out the 80s I still like.
The unmistakable BARK of that Gretsch concert tom drum set was heard on so many songs in the 80s. You always knew when Phil was on a track. Robert Plant's "In the Mood" is another prominent track with Phil.
Phillip Bailey was an alumnus of my school, East High School in Denver, CO (graduate of 1969) and he gave our school huge props when he became part of EW&F. He had friends who were a year ahead of me who created a group called The Tender Fore (big time Motown, which was very popular in our school in 1972-) and they would perform at our school assemblies. So, whenever I see a reaction to anything PB, I got to listen. I loved your Reactions, how could they have been anything but positive? I loved this video too, hadn't seen it for about a minute and I mean 1985 when I saw it on MTV. lol Thanks y'all for bringing some memories back to this ol' girl. *Old but not dead* 😄
BLUE THUNDER! I was 9 in ‘83 and had a kick ass model of it. That scene when you first see it with the sun behind it got its hooks in me! My dad put his hands over my eyes in the theater when they were watching that chick do her aerobics though.
These music videos are like a time capsule for the zeitgeist of the era. I remember the chopper was kinda an 80s icon for hi-tech modernity, that fantasy jetset life, and like a lot things back then, it was sexy. Then we get a contrast with the down to earth goofy commeraderie between the two Phils, it's almost satirical, like they were taking the pee out of the whole music video genre. Love it! ❤
40 years 🎂 Written by Philip Bailey, Phil Collins and Nathan East. Guitar solo by Daryl Stuermer. East on bass guitar 🎸. Fun 😊 video. Same year Phil Collins sang and wrote Against All Odds. Suggested videos 📹: 1 Phil Collins sings Two Hearts 💕 2 Genesis performs Invisible Touch. 3 Earth Wind and Fire 🔥 perform After the Love Is Gone.
So fun to watch your reactions!😊 Theu sounded so good together!!! Every time this song came on my car stereo back then, I'd turn it up so loud. Brings back such good memories
I love this collaboration. It's a good thing that it came out when I was a kid, though, because if I was older and someone told me Philip Bailey and Phil Collins were releasing a song together, I would have just laughed at them and never listened to it. I don't know why it works, but it does.
I can't believe Corey Roy said that videos weren't that good in the 80s. What?! That's when videos became a thing and launched MTV, as well as the careers of countless bands among many genres of music. Sure, a lot were low budget, but most of the time, the creativeness was there. Videos started to go downhill in the mid-90s and have never been the same. They turned into self-realized idol worship with no meaning(kinda like a lot of 80s metal videos with the band just gyrating on stage).
100% Agree. Michael Jackson's Thriller videos, Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer and Aha's Take on Me are just a couple of incredible videos that came out in the 80's.
Look, I was a kid in the 80s and I love watching videos from that time period, but there were some *terrible * videos in the 80s that absolutely crack me up. There were great ones, too, that will always be classics, but let's not pretend that those giggle-worthy ones don't exist.
Didn't know he was one of the lead singers for Earth Wind and Fire. Phil's daughter plays on the show Emily in Paris on netflix. Pretty good show. I love Bailey's voice gives you the chills.
There’s some fascinating history to this song. When Phillip Bailey was looking to do his solo album, someone proposed he have it produced by Phil Collins in London. But Bailey was warned that if the album was “too white,” black radio wouldn’t play it. Collins was a huge Motown fan and had worked with the Earth Wind & Fire horn section on multiple albums, so he jumped at the chance to produce the album. During the production, the album was nearly done but there was a concern that it didn’t have a great single to release. So Collins, Bailey, and bassist Nathan East wrote this song. Originally, the plan was just to have Bailey sing, but he proposed it be a duet. Collins also played drums on the album, including on this song). When it came to the release, the record company insisted that Collins appear in the video. At the time, A lot of Black artists had difficulty getting airplay on MTV. But Collins has just had a number 1 hit with Against All Odds, so having him in the video would guarantee heavy airplay. Ironically, the concerns about the album being “too white” never materialized. Easy Lover peaked at no. 2 on the Hot 100, but also reached no. 3 in the R&B chart and no. 5 on the rock chart. Bailey’s album, Chinese Wall, reached no. 20 on the Hot 200 and no. 10 on the R&B album chart. Bailey also was nominated for a Grammy for best R&B male.
@@xoxxobob61 Radio wasn't that segregated in the 80s. It might've been some people's thinking, but unlike any other era the line between "Black music" and "White music" was pretty blurred.
Miss the relaxed trust we had back then...right now we are so separate as Humans...not sure what you mean about 80s videos as they were actually creative but this one is so for real....plus music to DANCE to was popular in the 80s - where everyone could move to not in separate camps like now..
In addition to Philip and Phil writing this song, Nathan East was a co-composter. Nathan is one of the best and most popular bass players alive today. (with all due respect to Leland Sklar and Tony Levin)
They had great chemistry on this song. Collins churned out many pop hits, Bailey's voice was amazing. ( Check out his singing on "I'll Write a Song For You". IMHO, EW&F's best ballad. ) The "music video"? Godawful is being extremely charitable. IIRC, Elton John said he hated music videos, specifically being what is the point!? This one underscores his opinion very well. LoL.
Great vocals songs! Best videos....might have to disagree a little lol. Most interesting yes! We always say the videos of the 80s fall into three categories: Good, Bad, or They throw every piece of technology into the video! This video falls into the good video category. Loved their chemistry!
Philip Bailey is in his 70's, still touring and still hitting notes only dogs can hear.
I will DIE on the hill that this is a Phillip Bailey song! 💯😎🤣
Seeing and hearing Phil Collins always makes me smile. Philip Bailey was great. Fun scenes
🔥love when phil brought in Phillip earth wind and fire outfit
That was funny! 😂
Phil is a card and unafraid to poke fun at himself. A good sense of humor is grossly underappreciated.
Phil Collins is one of my favorite artists.
Collins was on fire in the 80's, with songwriting, producing, drum playing, singing. This is a fun song, not obviously deep, like some of his others, but a light, fun one.
The 80's produced some damn good music.;
PHIL COLLINS IS A MUSIC LEGEND 🔝
Legends!!! They compliment each other's voices so much!!!!
I love the part when Phil Collins pull out the earth wind and fire costume to wear
Great Team! Love how they are both featured. It is like a buddy flick with their wives behind them in that silly scene. Plus, Phil Collins is playing drums in the soundtrack.
Great reaction! Love Phil Collins and Philip Bailey. Both are legends in their own right! This was the perfect fit for both of them to shine! ❤❤❤
Philip Bailey is an amazing vocalist, loved him with Earth Wind and Fire.. Phill Collins❤❤❤
That’s Phil on those drums too
I love this song!! I remember when it first came out on MTV. Phil is so fun to watch with his silliness. A buddy of my husbands and his wife sang backups on this track. So fun to hear this again!😁

Agree!👍 that's when MTV was only videos 24/7
That's because people were willing to be a lot more experimental, and had to get creative to bypass limits of technology at the time.
Philip Bailey pride of Colorado! 🎼❤️🎼❤️🎼❤️🎼❤️
I'm 54 years ago, when this song came out and even till this day, this song amazing! This brings back memories!
Now- Phil Collins in 2008 doing In the Air Tonight live is one of the most watched of all time. It’s just a masterpiece! Cant wait to see your reaction- the suspense and buildup!
I love when he starts towards the drums and you can hear the audience is like OMG HERE IT COOOOOOOMES!
It was a solid collaboration.
I Love this song❤ These 2 men together is Beautiful. Their voices is 🔥 ❤

Missed Again by Phil Collins is like the complete pop song, many instruments, catchy, great song.
Totally agree, great song.
I agree also. Great song!!!
I saw Earth, Wind, and Fire last Saturday. Phillip Bailey still brings it!
Always loved this video.
Ollie: "Does he (Phil Collins) ever dance?" lol Gotta check out the Genesis video "I Can't Dance."

A couple of Phils cuttin it up
Great singers and song

Maybe it just me but this is one of the best duets of all time. 🔥
This was my favourite song of '84.
Love love love this song the video and the review!
Honestly I was so surprised pleasantly so that Ollie was Popping to it😅😅😅😅

Was Phil Collins the first to were sneakers (Chuck Taylors) low tops with formalwear? Not celebrity was doing that, that I can remember.
Oh yeah. I’m 73 and still can’t jam to this song
The previous decade they were producing entirely different genres of music - yet, just a few years later they find middle ground in pop.
