  • In this "Reverse Build" teardown of my Honda Odyssey Camper, I cover new details of my minivan build. Included is how I got the subfloor level in the van (the easy way), removal and installation of the bed, carpeting, battery and inverter installation/location, and my new heated mattress pad.

    Here are a couple links for some things that were featured in the video. This video is not monetized for me because I used music that directs all profits to the creator of the music. That's fine by me, but I'd appreciate it if you use one of the links below to do your Amazon shopping. It won't cost you a penny more, but I'll get some scratch from the sale.

    I subscribed after seeing you on Tristan's video - and I'm very happy I did. I find that a guy's way of explaining and fitting out their vans are a different view than women's. No-nonsense and explanations to all the wiring and why it is wired that way is good for me. I like to know the reasoning. Thanks very much and I will be looking at your other videos. Also I like your sense of humor and the music! 🙂

      Thank you for the kind words! I try to explain things knowing that we all come with different experience sets. Nobody is born knowing everything and I’ve plenty left to learn. I’m glad you got some value out of it. Thanks for watching!

    Thanks, I appreciate your videos. I have an Odyssey also so it helps me a lot. Although I’m not ready to travel yet. I’m 75 years old so I’m going slow! Mainly I bought it to be able to rest and use the toilet since during Covid the bathrooms were locked up tight. A friend built a bed and a few other things so I’m moving along.

      Thank you for watching! I too traveled during Covid and it was nice to have, ahem…facilities. If you aren’t ready to travel yet, I suggest taking day trips or one night overnights. I can’t do everything either. I watch the younger people do things I can no longer do, but doing SOMETHING is better than doing nothing. And remember, slow and steady wins the race! Safe travels!

    What a great simplistic bed frame idea that’s not too heavy as well

    How about getting the 3rd row seats out of a 2012 4th generation Honda Odyssey mini van? I can’t find one on TH-cam. Can you please enlighten me? New subscriber and solo van camper here. Loving my Honda Odyssey Touring van named Bertha (berth).

    Very good, thanks! What happened to your previous idea of using Unistrut? you switched to wood, because it's cheaper?

    • @OdysseyCamper
      @OdysseyCamper  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Unistrut worked, but I had a Nissan NV200 for about 18 months and during that time I built a bed for it from wood. Then I cannibalized the Unistrut bed in the Odyssey, for another project. When I went back in the Odyssey, I adapted the NV200 bed rather than building a new one. I’d say that both worked well, but the manufactured decking I used on the Unistrut bed made it heavier. Thanks for watching and for paying attention to that detail! I did not explain the change and I should do that in a future video.

    Hi, thanks for the great videos. I have a 2013 same color Ex-L and I was wondering how you took out the 3rd row, because they are tied together. Did you video that? Did it require any custom hardware to be made? Thanks

    • @OdysseyCamper
      @OdysseyCamper  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don’t think I documented it but… pull the plastic caps on the hinges, up and back the screws out with a ratchet. They are under relatively low tension so if you keep your hand on the ratchet, you should be fine. Thank you for your question and for watching !

    I’m curious how much power the heated mattress pad uses overnight? I’m thinking of getting one for some upcoming van camping.

    • @OdysseyCamper
      @OdysseyCamper  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Lynn, if memory serves, it is 60W, but I will take a measurement today and let you know.

    • @OdysseyCamper
      @OdysseyCamper  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Good thing I checked because it’s actually using between 60 and 90W, depending on the setting. I’ve never needed to use the high setting overnight so let’s use 75W as the guideline. If you think in watt hours, you could stop there and divide the battery capacity by 75 to get how many hours it will run. But if you think in amp hours (Ah, as in 100Ah) we need to do a little more. It’s running off a 120 volt inverter, so that’s .625 amps (W\V), BUT what we care about is how much it pulls from the 12V battery. So, we divide 75W by 12V and get 6.25 Amps. It’s always a good idea to figure another 15% for the power that the inverter is using, so round off at 7A. If you have a 100Ah lithium battery, and use 90% of the capacity, the mattress heating pad will run for 12.85 hours (90/7=12.85). If you are using a lead acid battery and only running it down to 50%, then you can run it 7 hours. I’m trying to provide a lot of details for others that might read this, but if you send me the info on what battery or pack you are using, I’ll give you the answer for YOUR set up. Thanks for watching!

      wow, thank you for so much detail. I have a Bluetti 800W LiFePO4 - so it would likely use around 75% of my power for one night (75W x 8hours) =600W usage, if I calculated that correctly. I will also be powering a small 12v refrigerator much like the one you have. Perhaps I could just use it to warm up my bed and then turn it off. Or maybe use a timer and have it cycle on and off through the night. I have 120W portable solar panel to recharge during the day but I usually go out hiking and I'm not comfortable leaving my solar panels at the campsite unattended. So I could likely only get one nights use out of it. thanks for all your info. By the way, I loved the "hoodie/pillowcase" idea😊 Also loved your choice of hoodie !@@OdysseyCamper

    • @OdysseyCamper
      @OdysseyCamper  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@lynnsmith6221 that sounds about right! I mainly use mine to warm the bed and also use a timer to shut it off after a couple of hours, or I wake up sweating. I can only imagine running it all night in really cold (like below 20F) temps. Glad you liked the hoodie :-)

    • @OdysseyCamper
      @OdysseyCamper  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you remove the black vinyl cover strips, there are M6 (screw size) threaded studs underneath. You can screw on female standoffs (spacers) and then put a screw through the rail and into the standoff.

    That front passenger seat takes a lot of space, weighs a lot, and is just about useless. That’s why I removed mine. It only took about 15 minutes after spending half an hour watching videos. I’m building a custom steel rack to take its place, but it’s not done…

      I’ve thought about doing this a few times but I wasn’t sure if it would trip the airbag light. On some systems that will disable ALL the airbags, but I’m not sure if this is true of the Odyssey. Thanks for watching!
