    As always a great vid! I am impressed by the your presentation. No disturbing music in the background, no flashy change of camera angles, no text bouncing in and out in the video, just plain and simple with a calm background and very good sound quality. One can tell that your productions are well thought thru. And last but not least, the content is professional with a twist. Looking forward to your next video!

      Lars, thanks for the kid words and I'm sorry it took me so long to respond. There are a ton of comments on this clip and I'm still catching up. I really appreciate that you're enjoying the way I'm doing these clips and promise not to add any kooky music or jump-edits to the clips. I have a lot more content I'm working on so be sure to stop back soon. Rick

      Gewema - Thanks as well for the kind words. I really enjoy flying (and tech in general) and do these clips to share that with others. I'm not a big fan of the "noisier" slips either and promise to keep these simple and packed with info. Thanks again for watching. Rick

    This guy is a crazy gold talker/presenter. You can tell he isn't talking from a script. It's a non stop, uncut take. Very well done, cheers mate! Very useful for when I finally receive my Mavic!

      Glad you enjoyed the clip and I like to do a lot of research and thinking about a topic before putting a clip together so it kind of flows naturally. I do appreciate the compliments and hope you sub the channel so you don't miss any new ones I post.

    I've been floating around TH-cam watching drone channels and videos for a about a year and a half now. Your channel, is BY FAR, the most informative one I've seen. Just wanted to say thanks for the education. Wish I had discovered it prior to pre-ordering a Lily :( . Live and learn.

    Hey wanted to thank you for this vid. Got my Mavic last week. Hated taking off my cover on my iPhone 6 plus every time I wanted to use it in the controller. I also have a iPad mini 4 that I really wanted to use. Stumbled on your video, followed the link to the 90 degree cable, and couldn’t be happier! Fits perfect, and no extra cable dangling. Am a subscriber, also am from NJ originally. Thanks neighbor!

    Rick, I enjoy your work. Lots of detail and no marshmallows. Several times now I have had questions about my Mavic Air and searched for the answers on TH-cam and other locations only to find inevitably that you are the best most thorough source with the answers I seek. I enjoy your high content and technical expertise. The channel has become my go-to and is a great resource. Great work and an asset to DJI drone users. Thank you. Respectfully Submitted, Dan

    I just see that Lars just said this, but I must restate it. FINALLY a drone video that’s not some 20 or 30 something shouting in the camera and blaring loud and obnoxious music during the whole video! Thanks so much as you have done a PROFESSIONAL job unlike most the “other guys” who while they may be knowledgeable, have ZERO understanding on how to communicate in this media. One would think it would be obvious to them but evidently it’s not so clear. But it’s painfully clear to me and others as the comments below indicate. Good on you sir for doing a great job!

    I really like your presentations. They're always so clearly audible, straight forward, and informational. I'm not sure if Mavmount was even in business when this video came out, but I just bought one, and I love it. Of course the nice anodized aluminum plate slides into the clamps and the rotating mount holds the clip that holds your tablet. I really didn't know about that little trick you found out about putting the corners of your tablet in to the clamps. That's slick. The only problem for me is that my tablet is too big for that use, so I really did need something like the Mavmount. Thanks again for a great presentation. Marc Trainor.

    Very informative video Rick. I was speculating that the regular USB on the bottom may be utilized to transmit the image to the headset, however if the micro USB takes priority, that may indicate that the headset will use wireless technology to transmit the image. Again, great video, thank you for taking the time to share it with us.

    Well...I have watched about 3,017 videos about the Mavic Pro in one form or another, and I've put it in my cart on Amazon three times....this video convinced me to "place my order"....so, please, take some of the blame!! The one thing (among many other secondary things you mentioned) that convinced me in this vid was the fact that I'll likely be able to use my Android 8" tablet...that really is an attraction to me. I'd be happy flying it with my phone, I'm sure, but the bigger the screen, the happier I'll be. Flying a Phantom 3 Standard at present, so this will be a healthy and fun upgrade. Thanks for the excellent stuff....subscribing!!

    Rick, Your clips are wonderful - many thanks. I am 75, and am a first-time flyer of drones (I just bought the Mavic Pro - one of the earliest to arrive in Australia - and loving every second. So thanks for the great tips and advice.
    One question - do you need to turn off the wifi in the iPhone when using it in the controller, to avoid any possible radio interference? regards, Graham

    Thank you Rick great video, I purchased the iPad Mini 4 and I utilize it with the DJI mavic Pro Controller I shut off the WiFi and put it in Airplane Mode to eliminate any interference that might be around. My question is, if I am using the intelligent flight modes like follow me or active track, do I need to be connected to Cellular or Wifi? In order for it to work? Thank you in advance and as always, I greatly appreciate all the hard work and dedication that you put into making these tutorial videos about this wonderful Hobby. Joey.

    Just a very well-built remote controller overall. I especially love that locking mechanism for the antennas to snap into place together. That solid click noise is reassuring that nothing is going to be damaged whilst it's in the shoulderbag during travel. I am a little concerned with the battery life of the remote. I've watched a few TH-cam videos of the remote in action and I've noticed that the battery percentage for the remote itself tends to drop rather quickly depending on which mobile it's connected to, as it charges the mobile's battery while it's connected via the sync cable. I think using the remote with a fully charged mobile or tablet will reduce the battery downtime. You can also use the powerbank to battery adaptor, that comes with the Fly More Combo bundle, to charge the remote with a low flight battery, which is a godsend.

    On the Phantom 4 they introduced an HDMI output for the new Fat-shark Goggles. then made an upgrade for the phantom 3 to use HDMI. I know DJI has an FPV goggle coming, but its the size of a football helmet, defeats the "Portability". Do you know if there is a way to connect one of those USB out to a Fatshark ? Adapter ?

      What Tony said!!?

    • @daemn42
      @daemn42 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I very much doubt it, which for me is a show stopper. I have two different FPV goggles that have an HDMI input, and I will always either pilot my P3P with them, or offer them to a passenger for a much more immersive experience. For some reason DJI went out of their way to not add an HDMI output to the Mavic Pro which is extremely annoying. I use a nVidia shield tablet though, which has its own HDMI output, so if it fits in the arms as shown in this video, then there's a workaround, but it adds a little bit more latency. It does look like the ergonomics (hands on the controls) with the tablet attached will be somewhat awkward.

    • @plankhill
      @plankhill 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ya, its about a show stopper for me also. I want that range, but i dont want to look at a tablet or phone doing it...

    Hi Rick,
    Just got my Mavic yesterday. One thing that is hard to find info on is changing from mode 2 to mode 1.

    Hello Rick, you are the best, it is a pleasure to hear your thoughts and opinions, thank you very much.
    I am still not sure if I can connect an external display or goggles using the USB port wile having a phone connected in the other port.
    I understood that one output takes priority over the other but can I connect it to an external display simultaneously? In my P3 I have the HDMI board installed for extra HDMI output.
    It would be sad to be obligated to purchase a DJI wireless googles and not be able to use the one I have. Thank you!

    Great job Rick. Have a question on video: Mavic doing fine and when record a video and review on pad it comes out fine to view. Remove SD card and install for viewing on computer and video comes out horizontal to view that is not good to do. Save it to google and it comes out vertical to view. I see there is a portrait mode on the c1-c2 buttons and also on other control button. Does this effect video recording for viewing as which way is up or horizontal to view?

    Thanks Rick for another great video. Really enjoy the channel since recently getting into the hobby of droning. My question is, does the ipad have to have cell data subscribed on it to get the maps to work properly, or can you use the WiFi only? I see in many videos with phones linked up, it's recommended to turn off WiFi when flying your Mavic Pro. Thanks again for your very informative videos.

    another great video Rick. I am deciding between the P4 and the Mavic I am not concerned about having a compact drone like the Mavic so taking size out of it in your opinion what do you think is the best option. From what I have seen the Mavic is more susceptible to the wind.

    I'm waiting for my mavic pro to arrive and I'm wondering what the least expensive decent tablet 8" or less in width would be. I already have an iPad 2 so I would only get one for the mavic. Would a kindle fire work or does it need a certain operating system? I'll be using my iPhone 7 to start and see how that works. I look forward to watching your other mavic videos and also appreciate simple presentation and studio-look backdrop👍 Thanks.

    Nice tutorial, thanks. I've viewed other videos that you've put out: concise, to the point, very well done and helpful. I'm an experienced droner with various Phantom models as well as Autel. Just picked up a Mavic, pretty impressive in such a small and compact drone and controller. I do have a question/issue for you: I tried to connect the controller USB to the new version iPad 9.7 inch and it won't link. Same if I try to connect the controller USB to an Android tablet.... and no link up. However, when using the micro USB on the side of the controller, I have connection with any Apple or Android device I try to pair up. What might the issue be when trying to use the controller USB to Apple/Android device and it will not connect or pair up? Thanks and Semper Fly.

    Hey Rick many Thanks for all your great insights. As a new pilot they are helping me get a better understanding of my drone and how to get the maximum out of it. Speaking of maximum - after watching you speak of using the ipad mini 4 I'm hooked on that idea. However is there a value in getting the 128GB vs the 64GB version? Or does the mini 5 offer any advantages? I have no immediate other use for the ipad other than using it with my mavic pro 2, hence my wonder regarding storage capacity. Many Thanks and I look forward to your continued great video releases!

    Great Review! Good to see a review of the DJI Mavic Pro from an engineer’s point of view. I have watched many reviews on the Mavic Pro and you’re the only person to show something different and Helpful. The info about the position & locking down of the antenna was interesting, but the iPad mounting was just brilliant (thanks for catching that). But it does bring up one question, “How comfortable is using the controller with the iPad mounted?”.

    • @Dronevalley
      @Dronevalley  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for posting and I'm glad you enjoyed the clip. With the iPad mounted it is a little "bottom heavy" but because it's so securely held up against the controller, it feels pretty natural. The other alternative of adding a bracket actually puts the tablet over top of the controller screen or further down below so I guess there isn't a perfect solution for this. I'm kind of hoping that DJI releases a optional controller for the Mavic that is still small but supports a larger phone/tablet natively. I hope you sub the channel so you don't miss anything. Rick

    Excellent video, I only have one problem with your set up.
    If you have the iPad mini same height your forearms are over the screen or hands.
    I have big hands and it's even hard for me to keep my arms out of the way.
    If your try it's an awkward flying style. A stand clip frees up your vision and
    You can rest The underneath of your iPad on your for arms if you want
    Or utilise the stand(clip).

      Thanks for posting and I'm glad you liked the clip. I was frustrated as well that the controller couldn't hold a tablet and am glad I was able to sort it out. Please be sure and sub the channel when you get a chance so you don't miss anything. Rick

      Thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed the clip. I couldn't find either of these in the manuals I have either and I promise you that there is a design engineer somewhere sitting at a desk, frustrated that the work they did wasn't included in the manual. It happens all the time and I'm just glad we found it. Be sure to sub the channel so you don't miss new updates. Rick

    Great video and very helpful. Could you help me... I have just purchased a Mavic Pro Platinum Combo and could really use some help here. I have just upgraded my phone to a Samsung A51 and the DJIGo4 software seems fine. I haven't actually flown the Mavic yet (I am a seasoned RC and Whoop flyer and so that is not an issue) as I was intending to buy a DJI Smart controller. Then after I purchased the drone I discovered the Smart controller doesn't work with my model.
    So I then watched a guru on youtube who said that the iphone is rock solid as a controller (for obvious reasons) and that I would be better off having a dedicated iphone rather than a phone running loads of apps. I totally get that.
    So here is my current dilemma... my new Samsung A51 will probably be fine but I have noticed that when I run the DJIGo4 software there are a series of icons on the very left hand border. Because the screen display is edge to edge it is difficult to touch these as the controller phone mounting arms almost cover them when the phone is mounted.
    This doesn't seem to be a problem on the iphone as the screen starts inboard from the edge allowing you to touch the who program area.
    So I have figured I would buy a second hand unlocked iphone from eBay (I have seen and iphone 7 plus around £200) and dedicate it to the drone.
    Here's my main question???
    Can you put me straight please... If I get an iphone dedicated to the controller and the Mavic Pro Platinum will I lose any functionality if I don't have a sim card in it? The reason I ask is because I don't want to pay for another phone contract.
    Also which would be the best iphone model to get?

    As always excellent video! I do have one question if you can help me out? Is there any advantage to signal strength when using the USB on the bottom of the controller as opposed to the generic connection on the side of the controller to your tablet or smartphone? Thank you in advance. Joey

    Great video great tip.Haven't got my Mavic (UK) yet I've got my deposit down but would really like to see a jpg before I buy, I know it wont be as good as the inspire I use but the the Mavic has the huge advantage of portability. I use the Inspire for inspecting buildings and need jpgs. I need to know how good the jpgs are, are you able to to supply a jpg, ideally of a building, I need to seen haw far you can zoom in before it pixelates. DJI have not managed to provide a jpg ? Thanks.

    I think this is one of the great finds on a new product like this. Can you maybe round up some other small tablets and see how they work? Still waiting for my Mavic and this would be a great time to look into buying a good fitting tablet. Also will using a tablet without cellular service, be a bad idea (thinking of the map system) or any other cons?

    • @Dronevalley
      @Dronevalley  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the post and I'm testing a few other tablets tomorrow. I can already tell you that the Nvidia won't fit but some of the smaller Samsung models work OK. You won't need cellular service for the phone/tablet just be sure it has GPS. If you're searching for a new tablet, the iPad mini 4 is a good choice. I use it myself and it works great. Would you happen to know if the DJI Mavic Pro controller would fit the Kindle Fire 5th Generation? I have an iphone 4 at the moment, which would only produce a very small video image. - Good videos by the way.

    Fair enough. Just wondering if the Cloudlight app will work with the Mavic (as it does on my P3P) and, if not, is there another app (maybe Lichi) that will allow me to fly the Mavic (which I won't get till month's end) with my IPhone installed in VR goggles. Thanks, Fred

    Hello Mr.Rick, is the micro USB on the side (or the regular USB on the bottom) «CHARGING» the device connected ? Thank you for this nice Mavic Controller presentation !

    • @Dronevalley
      @Dronevalley  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the post! No the Mavic controller doesn't charge your phone/tablet like the Phantom controllers do. One trick I did discover though is that you can actually connect your device to the bottom USB connections and charge the controller through the microUSB on the side while you're using it. Thanks again for the comment and be sure to sub the channel. Rick

    Hi Rick
    Great... learned something new.
    IPad can be clipped into standard holder arms. Knew about usb cable but not clasping an iPad.
    Now... what we really need to know about is RF Safety. If the controller can transmit 4 miles and you are standing behind the same antennas. Assuming there is no tinfoil shield on the backside of the antennas. Then how is the 2.4Ghz frequency affecting your cells. This must compare to microwave oven leakage. There are many concerns on line & youtube regarding health problems with WiFi. & Bluetooth & Cellular RF. Should we assume that the FCC (govt.) guidelines will protect us. Not Likely :)
    Have you ever tested the RF output with a meter?
    Cheers
    Trevor in West Australia

    Rick, you saved me a lot of headache again my friend. I got my Nvidia shield and was trying to connect it to my controller using the USB to micro USB with no success, I watched this video, and removed the micro USB from the charging port (which was not connect to anything on the other side) and it connected to the shield straight away. I have told you this in the past, but I truly appreciate the information you share with us. Thanks again bud. Merry Christmas.

    I've had some problems recently with the crystal sky monitor and disconnecting mid-flight. I look at the controller and wondered if I could fly it back home by simply referring to it. Yes, I know the RTH button and its saved me several times. However, just wondering how to navigate/fly using just the controller input.

    I would like to know if you can have some sort of field monitor for friends to watch despite not being able to use both USB connectors as once. I saw you'll be able to use two googles with one drone, but a larger tablet for onlookers would be great. I have that with my Phantom2 while I use goggles, but the monitor is simply picking up the transmission independently of the goggles.

    Hi, I've got a question. I believe you can turn the camera around by touching the phone/tablet screen. With a longer usb cable could you have dual operator mode, ie 1 person flying the drone with the controller while someone else turns the camera?. Thanks.
