Went through the flesh of my ring finger and then shattered the tip of my pinky. Nearly $30,000 in debt later and I can never shred again. My pinky is half an inch shorter than it used to be and the tip of the bone is rough so pressing down hurts a lot and I had to make a prosthetic fingertip like Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath. You're still getting about 70% of the energy from most shotgun shells. Also as you probably discovered vectors don't require distance to establish. A 10-in cylinder bore shoots the same pattern as a 34-in cylinder bore. The only time shopping increases a pattern is when you cut off a choked section leaving a cylinder behind.

    • @jeromeb.
      @jeromeb. 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Can you please explain why ?

    • @GunFunZS
      @GunFunZS 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@jeromeb. This is kind of tricky but the basic idea is want something is moving in a straight line it can't be moving more in a straight line. The vectors of the individual pellets are all established as they exit the muzzle whether that muzzle is very close to the start of travel or far. So what really matters is the shape of the barrel at the last little bit of the barrel. How long the barrel is doesn't matter. Part of the reason people believe that a short barrel has a wide pattern has to do with how they were made in the 1800s. They tended to get a tube which was fatter in the middle. Therefore it would narrow down at the muzzle creating a tight choke. If you cut off that tight choke your left with the fat bit that is possibly even the reverse of a choke.

    • @jeromeb.
      @jeromeb. 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@GunFunZS Understood thanks, I think I understand. The question interests me because I am in possession of a Baikal IJ18 (single shot, 12 G.) , with a very (too) long and a fixed full choke. I wanted to shorten it, and in the process switch to cylinder choke which would allow me to pass everything through it (shot, slugs...). But I read everything and its opposite: for some it is the ultimate modification for an all-purpose one-shot, for others it will transform it into an unusable watering can. Not to mention that it will have to go through the test again, and that if it does not pass, it will be destroyed by the organization that does the tests...

    One of the issues I have with some of these break-action single-barrel shotguns is that they only have extractors, not ejectors. Granted I understand the utility of that for a survival shotgun since you don't want to launch your multi-caliber adapters across the room every time you reload. That being said, this shorty boi allows you to flip the breech open fast enough to launch the empties out like an extractor, as seen at 0:13. Nice little bonus of the design.

      @@booliganshootingsports My thing is that regular people are being increasingly limited in tactical options in the event the government decides to make the final move of confiscation. Which doesn't seem far off with what Biden has been saying as of late. For example: the police have SBRs (which they get to take home) best suited for close urban environments and selective fire options while most civilians have carbine length rifles with just semi. I've trained with both and the sbr with selective fire has the advantage.
      The point of the 2a is clear, yet the government keeps infringing on it. The prices may not have gone up, but there shouldn't be added fees or lists to begin with.

    Ok, I think this is on par with a super shorty. Mossberg and remington need to sell us virgin receivers. And if the barrel is rifled, it's just a pistol, no sbs. Get some brass shells and slugs, and you got a heck of a hand cannon. HOOWDAAH 🤣🤘

    • @booliganshootingsports
      @booliganshootingsports  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It couldn’t be an AOW like the SuperShorty because as you said, no virgin receivers exist for these so it has to start as a shoulder stock equipped shotgun.
      I wish making it a “pistol” was as simple as a rifled barrel. Guns like the Judge are pistols because they’re chambered in .45LC, rifled, and just happen to be able to fire .410. No such compatible non-shotshell rifled cartridge exists for 12 gauge, and if they did, the resulting pistol would be considered a DD as the bore would be over .50”
      Sadly, SBS is the only way to go for this specific build.

      1. How does a fully rifled 12 gauge not violate DD over .50 rules, example, 12 gauge from hell, Ed Hubel, and commercially available fully rifled 12 gauge 'shotguns'.
      2, and this is probably a little wonky thinking. Parts kit concept. If a receiver is 'destroyed' it loses it's designation. Example would be chopping a mosin rifle receiver, 'destroying' it, and then welding it back together to get a 'virgin' receiver to make an Obrez pistol on without an sbr stamp.
      Or so I read/saw on the interwebz, so of course it has to be true. /s

      But it couldn’t be a pistol if it ONLY shot a 12 gauge shotgun shell. It’s gotta have that non-shotgun shell compatibility like .45LC/.410.

    I gotta make one of these.
    In one of Walter Winans' books, he mentions a short little 10" shotgun as a gun every hunter and outdoorsman should have. I think it was The Modern Pistol and How to Shoot it, published in 1919. Always amused me, since the "sporting use" thing was what the ban-happy folks were touting as the protected class of firearms.

    • @booliganshootingsports
      @booliganshootingsports  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      While it does get tossed around as a bit of a firearm novelty, you're really not wrong about it having some actual utility. Shotguns are interesting because you don't lose a ton of velocity with a short barrel, and since this is threaded for chokes, you don't get a fast, useless spread. With sub-caliber adapters, I can run 12g, 20g, .410, .45LC, and .22LR all out of this same platform. Certainly not as effectively as out of dedicated firearms for the correct caliber, but it can run them in "you need that squirrel to eat or you die" scenarios. It's a handy little thing and a ton of fun, I've learned how to shoot it more effectively since this video and honestly, I wouldn't hesitate taking small-medium game with this if I didn't have a better option with me.

    Strong suggestion: if you're going to get it threaded for chokes and you definitely should. ... Make sure you use the Remchoke format. I kind of think Remington shotguns are ho hum. But you have by far the most options in remchoke. Moreover the dimensions of it make it a more natural fit towards cooler stuff like extended chokes that have parallel constriction parallel design. That's what gives you the best possible pattern. A A greener figured that out in 1800 something... It still holds true today. So if you wanted a cool choke tube that gives you a really good pattern and maybe has some porting on it, That is your best choice. Incidentally I think a stainless ported muzzle brake would look pretty cool sticking out of the end of your thing. But the other thing about remchoke is you can have a flush fit choke and still have the best choke geometry. It's also the pattern that a lot of cheap import guns copy. Kind of did de facto standard, like the USB C of chokes.
