Minnesota’s finest...well maintained Farmall H and a 2 bottom plow like our Grandfathers used. Thank you for keeping these things from the scrap iron pile.
I can’t explain it but I get a lot of guys around here giving me a hard time for plowing. But every since I was big enough to drive the tractors by myself I’ve always loved to plow. I just really enjoy it. And watching your H brings back good memories of plowing with my dad and grandpa with the M, the H and a John Deere B
I got a 48 m I pull a ih 370 12 foot and a john deere 4-14 in north west wi. Pulls it easy. I been down with a nasty back injury been watching your videos keep up the good work. I enjoy watching the old equipment similar to mine working.
Never pulled a Little Genius but did pull a 2 bottom Oliver trip plow with our M. Those trail type plows are the best pulling plows ever made. Follow the contour of the ground. Just have to get them set up properly. I've used a lot of different plows in my younger days. Many 3 point 2, 3, and 4 bottoms. Used a lot of snap couplers on old Allis Chalmers too. That old Oliver pulled better than any of those others.
I have a farmall H set up with weights front and back and has liquid ballast in the rear with 12.4 rears.it has narrow front. One other thing it has is firestone tires on the rear.the fire stones have a real soft side wall that causes the tires to squat down no matter how much air pressure I put in them. That gives the tire a bigger foot print and more traction.I have taken it to the tractor pull many times .The tractor is able to use most of its horse power set up that way because it doesnt spin much. The tractor weighs 5,490 lbs with me sittinh on it.I pull it in the 5,500 lb class. The tractor governor is set at 2,250 rpm..I use this tractor on the farm mostly.I pull a 8 ft drag disk and I believe it has 20 inch disks.
I used to plow my garden with an H and Little Genius plow. As for disk size, I believe my great grandfather pulled an 8' with a CA Allis; same horsepower and weighs about half whst an H weighs. I'd think you wouldn't have any problem pulling one.
Good take on how to size up your tillage tool. Seems like all these new vertical tools are very power hungry since they need speed .. So keeping the disk around is the best way since it moves more dirt and you can do it at a much slower speed since disk is not a high speed tool. We used to pull 18 feet 496 with the 856 here but it was weighted heavy for tillage it was a low 2nd job usually
I haven't farmed since late 60's early 70's, we had a super C fast hitch we pulled a 7 ft mounted disk, we had a 350 gas we pulled a10 ft transport disc. Super C just right the 350 had to work but it did. I think you're in the right ballpark.
I pulled the 8’ disc with my wide front model H that had empty 12.4’s and no cast wheel weights, and it pulled it like it was made for it, even up a slight grade. I found drawbar height to have an effect on tractors with less power; when it felt like it was too big for it, I’d run a higher pull height and have an easier time
An H should be able to pull an 8ft disc with no problem with 18inch discs. Of course, that depends on hills and soil. Here I pull a 12ft disc and a 4 bottom plow with a 42hp tractor. Relatively flat and gentle hills. However a town over there is more hills and heavier soil, I can only pull a 3 bottom plow and 10ft disc. My friend's place a county over, the clay is so hard he pulls a 3 bottom plow with a 55hp tractor. I just bought a Massey Harris 35 disc harrow, 10ft wide. I needed a smaller disc that would fit through gates better, the 12ft disc hang up on 3 of the gates I deal with.
Hello guess if I had seen this I would have figured out the plow I have in yard is a IH. The hook up on front my plow is different its strange. The plow I have has the depth wheel in back but this plow is made for the heavy clay that's around here. You reverse the image really throws a loop in things so strange to see. Have a good day.
I have a hillside hitch on the back of my H.I can adjust the plow{or any thing else im pulling] right or left from the tractor seat . The hillside hitch stays on there even when im baling or brush hogging.
@@FarmallFanatic I will send you a picture of the tractor in a couple of months when I get it painted.its been in my family since 1962 .it's was the main tractor on a 130 acre farm.
@@FarmallFanatic by the way ,nice videos . keep making them when you can!. They are especially nice to watch in the winter when I'm cooped up in the house .lol
Weird! How come the right side of the tractor is in the furrow when view is from the tractor, but the drone and stationary shots it is the left side that is in the furrow.
Well the disk are rolling so it not like your pulling dead weight. I think it will do it. I'll keep an eye out for some disk around here. Looking for some hay equipment. I talked to Mark at Kaffelin's and he took my name in case someone trades some in. Looks like that plow is rolling the dirt nicely.
I pull a 9' disk with my H all the time. I'm not even sure what brand tbh, think it's either John Deere or Oliver, size or number of disks either. Just something I pulled out of a family members fence row.
8' JD KBA transport discs used to be common around here, and I think an H could pull a 8' just fine. I haven't seen one at a auction in quite awhile though. I used to own a SW-6 that could pull a 10' KBA around with no problem.
I have an AW John Deere that's 10 or 11 foot. It's a pretty big load for my 60 John Deere which is around 38 hp. I see you have a two way plow, or was that just trick photography. Hahaha
I’d say 8’ would be perfect, might give you the option to run a packer or drag yet too? I know growing up dad called HP on chisel plows. Like 10-15hp per shank. Can’t say I remember a Harrow or disc but 1hp per sounds fair. I don’t think anything can stop that damn H so you’ll be good 👌. Dirt sure is folding over nicely sir 👍. Slow mo sounds like a big choo choo train n I like it
A big tractor 32 hp are real horses. A compact tractor 32 hp are pony size hp. My old Fordson Super Dexta is 36 hp and it pulled the IH disc that was 11' wide with 18" blades all day long. You will be just fine.
I would really like to have first hand experience with your soil. Your able to pull tillage equipment with your H and M that here in southern Oklahoma they would struggle with. Here an M works to pull a 7 ft. disc and an H does ok with a 6 ft. Here an H will pull a 2-14 Little Genius in 1st an M will pull it in 3rd and that’s it. I’ve seen an M pull a 2-16, but not a 3-14.
Well damn, that’s a rig. I often said , 2wd tractors were engineered to work off the rear. 4wd are engineered for loader work n they suck at it. Plus they lost the ass end to pull on its rear. 4020 did all tillage n planting n 130hp 4wd struggles to bale hay on same ground with all 4 sliding sideways 🤦♂️.

One shot right wheel in furrow, next picture shows left wheel in furrow. Level plow, looks like front bottom shallower than rear.
My father has that plow but it is on rubber, not steal. It there a advantage to having your plow on steal or rubber?
I'd say rubber is an advantage if you want to take it on the road. It might get better traction for the trip too, depending on your soil.
