My family and I are saving every bit of our money that isn't for necessities to move to find better opportunities. Just moving to get those opportunities is horriblly expensive. My parents had the money and ability to raise their family in a better place but didn't take it. Bigger influencers benefit them more, therefore, they get special treatment. Smaller creators don't benefit them as much so they get standard treatment. It's how it's always been. You get treated based on what you contribute to the brand. If you pay a high price for a first class ticket and they seat someone from economy (who didn't pay a high price) next to you because of "equal treatment" you'd feel like you wasted your money while the other person is getting the same treatment for free. This is why brands base their plans on how much people contribute.

Unpopular opinion: i appreciate that influencers feel empowered enough to publicly explain when they refuse contracts w employers like tarte. This is a business transaction and the influencers are providing their network as a point of sales. If they dont like the terms of their employment, all the power to them to respond with refusal and feedback. I feel like its easy to judge when its us vs them, but the real conversation is them vs them. If these same issues were happening, but it was for example, a Starbucks event- where that Starbs had a bonding day at an arcade, but only provided prepaid game cards to the some employees and the rest had to pay, or some were invited to get dinner afterwards and some where not. F1 content creators post every day about the topic, only for influencers who don't know what F1 is get invited with VIP tickets. There was even a girl on TikTok who deadass said "if f1 fans wanted to go on these trips they should start making content" 🤡

I liked how she looked up when she said "my numbers". Social media is all about numbers. There's no such thing as "free influencer trips". Brands need to benefit too when they take people on trips. Bigger influencers benefit them more, therefore, they get special treatment. Smaller creators don't benefit them as much so they get standard treatment. It's how it's always been. You get treated based on what you contribute to the brand.
If you pay a high price for a first class ticket and they seat someone from economy (who didn't pay a high price) next to you because of "equal treatment" you'd feel like you wasted your money while the other person is getting the same treatment for free. This is why brands base their plans on how much people contribute.

I think the way that shawty sin handled the situation was very professional and well said. I think some people are misunderstanding the situation. It’s not that these influencers that complained want more just for the sake of having more, it’s that they want as much as what they saw their other friends get. And with all of the influencer trips in the past that have shown unfairness to people of color, there are sometimes question that need to be raised when it seems that brands are could be doing the same thing. Also, shawty sun did preface her statement by saying that she was grateful, and that she understood that this is a first world problem so it’s not like she’s completely unaware of how her statement might come off. 🤷🏽♀️

Unpopular opinion: i appreciate that influencers feel empowered enough to publicly explain when they refuse contracts w employers like tarte. This is a business transaction and the influencers are providing their network as a point of sales. If they dont like the terms of their employment, all the power to them to respond with refusal and feedback. Im not gonna judge a person for refusing an employment contract because its "a once in a lifetime opportunity". I feel like its easy to judge when its us vs them, but the real conversation is them vs them. No matter the industry, glamorous or not, people deserve to be treated equally and if they feel slighted, they are allowed to feel those feelings in a luxury cabana. If these same issues were happening, but it was for example, a Starbucks event- where that Starbs had a bonding day at an arcade, but only provided prepaid game cards to the some employees and the rest had to pay, or some were invited to get dinner afterwards and some where not. People would be mad and we'd say yeah thats effed up! No matter what industry youre in, you want to be treated the same as your peers. Even though they are of course incredibly lucky to be where they are, this is their job and they deserve to be treated with respect. And if they feel they havent been, they also have the right to speak their mind about it. We should be fighting for everyone to be treated with kindness and respect in every industry, not just the ones we think deserve it or are tangible for us.
