White Ape Tongbei Fist | 白猿通背拳:松肩活臂,灵快自如

  • Being one of the earliest Chinese combat techniques, the White Ape Tongbei Fist is named after the arm movements of apes. It focuses on the mindset rather than the actual gestures of apes. It is referred to as the Tongbei Ape. The fist move is quite effective for its long striking distance and nimbleness. It focuses on one's speed and strength as well as mental resilience. Zhang Bin, who has been familiar with the books on fists since childhood, says the key to flexibility lies in practicing basic skills and reaching higher levels. One can penetrate deeper when the body and the mind work in unison. #Chinakungfu #十三亿分之一

@@juandiegocorton9778 I tell you Bruce Lee startedd all this confusion with his fake self. He stole the name of tjk(une)d from kuntao like he tried to steal wing chun from Yip Man and called it his Jun Fun gung-fu when it is kung-fu. He had no clue of the difference since he had only seen gung-fu when they whupped on him with it.
So when got him back in China he bowed down and said jkd was not a style and had no forms which mean it cannot be martial Arts. (martial means 'primary" and primary is gung-fu from old Central Shaolin before it became Northern shaolin kung-fu
And since it wasn't a style, and Bruce was biting ppl on the screen so ppl thought anything is martial arts. But since jkd wasn't MA ufc could not be either.
When ufc took off (just a bunch of brutes going at it) they came up with MMA since Bruce thought getting fragments of self defense would equal Martial Arts.

I do a Kung fu myself. I will say many combat systems will have a natural advantage off rip. Many of these Kung fu forms don't always emphasis combat immediately or require you to piece what works.
Kickboxing and the like, teach from the jump how to throw hands and synch offense.
My school does full contact but a lot of. Kung fu don't... And that is a problem because you cannot promote self defense if you aren't practicing application in a way that makes practical sense. As an art, sure. But as a combat system, you must adapt.

The problem is in this day and age there probably isn't as much of the people going from one school to the next to challenge people. People have real lives and real jobs, and don't spend their lives at the martial arts school like they used to anymore. The whole way of life and culture has changed. My dad used to fight people/friends from other studios/schools when he was a kid in HK. But I don't think you can do that anymore these days.

I like watching these Kung fu videos. There seems to be an almost complete lack of sparring though. Without pressure testing these styles devolve into the “dry land swimming” Bruce Lee cautioned about. There are a lot of videos of “Kung fu masters” going up against journeymen MMA fighters with predictably unfortunate results. Nothing wrong with studying these arts, but if you don’t incorporate realistic sparring into your training it seems like a questionable endeavor.

I disagree that you can so easily kill someone by hitting them in the temples. While I was at work about 10 years ago, a pressure valve blew and a metal cap hit me directly in the temple, with MUCH more force than you can generate with a punch. I got a bad concussion, a laceration, but overall, I'm okay. I'm lucky, I know, but my experience makes me think temple strikes aren't as deadly as advertised.

People don't understand that the arts each have unique benefits or that MMA is not an art but a venue. In the UFC ring, certain techniques work best and training for MMA is isolating those techniques. In the traditional arts, people study for a much broader range of benefits. The self defense aspect is there, as are the same techniques seen in MMA, it's just that they are not at the forefront of training. I prefer the traditional arts although I have cross trained.
