    Can see poor ol' Spain sobbing but can't hear it over the Aussies cheering!!! Welcome to the 'Land Down Under' Nat - the New World. Gotta be the most ready made Aussiest Aussie ever to arrive on these shores lol!? Can we see the photo from the ceremony?

    My brothers 42' Vagabond sustained incredible damage during Hurricane Katrina...right after finishing a huge refit...of course. The new dock cleats all ripped out. The moral of the story, run a few lines around the dock and piers. The few boats that did moor to the dock remained pretty much damage free. 👍👍👍

    Guys I love your vids. As a commercial yacht skipper I just wanted to say don't skimp on the cost of cordage. Your life depends on it. As Henry Royce of Rolls-Royce said "The quality remains long after the price has been forgotten". Stay safe.

    Hi, I'm in Villanova y Geltru, some miles north east of you just south of Barcelona. Here damages were not as severe, my boat "survived" with just a small nick in the stern. Could have been worse, as the big anchor chain out in front, where the bowlines are attached was pulled several meters in towards the pontoon due to five heavy boats pulling violently at it. Thereby making it impossible to pull the boat sufficiently forward. Three boats to my starboard got bigger damages, but still not really severe. Are you guys still in Valencia? What's your sailing plan for the spring? Could not find you on Marine traffic... Fair winds, see you around.

    • @SailingZephyr
      @SailingZephyr  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Geltru - Glad to hear that you didn't sustain any serious damage. I heard Barca was pretty bad. We will be here till end of March and then off to Italy. You?

    Use clear acrylic and then add car window film of the smokiness you like. The acrylic is a third the price of smoked and film is a few euros. Lasts about 3 years and then just replace the film.

    • @clayfarnet970
      @clayfarnet970 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You old timers always have great cost saving ideas. Wait a second, I'm an old fart, why didn't I think of that? 😂😂😂👍👍👍✌️✌️✌️I was wondering if that would be a good cost effective way of extending the life and prevent scratching on hatches.

    • @SailingZephyr
      @SailingZephyr  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Neil!
      That's a great idea. The clear was substantially cheaper and the tint film will add a layer of protection as Clay suggested.
      You literally solved the problem for us.
      Cheers for being Legend!

      @@SailingZephyr Glad to be of service. I was amazed at the price of smoked acrylic so looked for alternatives. The window film does eventually mark and peel around the edges after a time, but ours has lasted 3 years and is only now looking a bit tired so will rip it off and redo it.

      😂 so true Jeje. Red is only a temp visitor for a couple weekends here and there. We aren't sailing with him. We take him to the doggie beach at least twice a day. He would go 3-4 times if we had the time. He loves it so much. x

    Hey guys love ur videos
    Just a thought, I would say keep ur old doors attached and get some Plexiglas cut the same size and attache them to ur existing doors. That way in the winter, u have some wind break from the weather, but in summer time u can take them off for the breeze that u will want on those hot summer days and nights. By the way I'm really jealous of u guys living my dream. Take care Always bee safe Tim

      @SailingZephyr  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Tim -
      Cheers for the feedback. We had considered your idea, but we are going to change them completely. We will keep the old ones just in case. The new ones will not only keep wind and rain out in adverse conditions, but they will also be much more secure from a security standpoint when we are away from the boat. The wood ones are just too flimsy. Thanks for watching and looking forward to your thoughts on our other projects as they come up in the next couple weeks.👍

    Hi guys thanks for your vids. I am just curious, you purchased your boat in the USA. What have you done to register it with the authorities so you can travel around the world. Will you be brining the boat back to OZZ? I am also looking in the USA for a boat as there is so much more choice and prices seem better than here in OZZ. Thanks and keep the dream alive.

    • @SailingZephyr

    That damage is fixable I watch another channel and they bout a boat that had been dropped 20 ft off a lift onto concrete and shaded the stern off the boat and cracked the hual down both sides to the first bulkhead and after a lit of work they did themselves are off sailing the world

    It's only a furling line , you have no idea how much strain is put on that line, just furling in with 20 knots
    You feel the pressure, if you do that with a winch, by doing this you will hide the pressure , you should be able to furl in by hand always, part 2 when furling part of the headsail in heavy winds , that's when your small cheap line will break, then you have 2 options get it down quick before it tears apart, and without it dropping in the sea,, just a warning from experience,

      We wish Red could be a new crew member. Unfortunately he's just too big. Wouldn't be fair on him and he needs a lot of space (which he has in Madrid). And he is Nats family dog. He's more just keeping us company whilst we get these winter projects done. Thanks for watching Todd. 👍
