Nothing todo with “ Rule Britannia” unless you’ve lived the life in the Military Life🇬🇧 until you have Don’t mention “ Rule Britannia” God Save The King
It was quite an impressive sight to see in person and a little scary too. Can certainly see why a condenser hose and can is necessary for concealment. I think I talked to Darren whilst at the spotlight event, everyone was incredibly knowable.
My great grandfather and his brother (if I'm remembering correctly) invented this particular machine gun. I'm half Vickers thanks to my mom... Mom had the blessing of being a Vickers named Vicky .... Vicky Vickers lol, poor five year old momma! Anyways that's why my middle names Victoria!
Not alot beats a Good Gun-Line!! Did a shoot, PDT, 12 GPMG's on the Line; End of shoot, ammo had to be expended, enough for 50-round belts per Gun, Sustained Fire permitted!! Nice and Loud!! With the wonderful aroma of spent cordite lingering in the air 😊 Murphy's Laws of Combat: Happiness is a warm Gun.
You can get one with a section 5 license, but those are tough to get. And indirect MG fire is still a very relevant tactic for long range support, machine gunners on GPMG’s still train to do it and use it in combat
Thanks Gordon! We were running PPU made .303. Richard who organised the event is doing a live Q&A this evening on his Vickers MG channel, he's definitely going to be talking about the ammo and lots of other stuff.
The tripods on these are soooo tall and heavy looking. Great if you've plenty of time to choose a position and set up behind sandbags or something but otherwise they are so exposed? Be nice if they'd made a lighter tripod that allowed a much lower position I think that could OPTIONALLY be weighed down with something for stability as needed? Either height adjustable or allowed quick insertion of say a foot long vertical section again if needed. Just a thought!
We could have had more, we had 2 spares which were both used I believe. But historically 16 represents a company of the Machine Gun Corps during WW1 so I believe that's why it was chosen.

It was wasn't it. Yes, Darren is a nice chap and knows his stuff, really great to see so many people interested.
Love those uniforms. Brits really were the best dressed in WWI.

Now that looks like a brilliant day out
Lovely! Two questions:
Does SASC still teach indirect MG?
How do you get one of them bad boys on your FAC? 😁

@@tomsoki5738 Probably cheaper to move to America. 🙂
@@dermotrooney9584 For a Vickers maybe, but any newer full auto it's just as hard in the UK/US
Interesting. Nice to see the old guns in action. I thought that the UK would have banned this type of weapon. Who owns the guns?
Thank you! They're all privately owned by Section 5 authorities (kind of like an RFD in the US).
Impressive!
Noiceeeeeee!
That looked like a lot of fun
Maybe I didn't listen closely enough, but what ammo where they running?
Surplus 303 or reloads?
Anyhow awesome video

@@TheArmourersBench I see, I'll be on the lookout for it, thanks!

They are very heavy. Heavier than the gun. But you can set them up quite low.
These are in private hands in England? How is that possible?
Assume it’s a historical group/museum with a section 5
Section 5 holders with various justifications basically.
@@jackcavendish8900 I believe prohibited firearms is section 7 Ie 7.1 & 7.3

Even with them all firing together it's still a slow firing rate 🤣
No need for barrel changes though and accurate.
Some of the guns were actually running a little faster than the 500 rpm average haha. Mine was running a little slower I think.
Quite deceptive really, considering there's 8000rpm (133 per second!) going downrange.
Only 16?

The organisation has plenty of serving and former service people. Sounds like you missed the point of the demonstration. Thanks for watching.
