  • Airdate: January 13, 1968
    1967 Dance Contest Couples:
    1) Tom Johnson and Cathy Schuster.
    2) Eddie Sanchez and Ruby Dake
    3) Joe Gonzalez and Claudia Dyche
    4) Famous Hooks and Jenny Nichols
    5) Mike Langham and “Snook” DeCessio (Pat Dickinson standing in)
    6) Not sure why there’s no couple #6
    7) Ken Nordiv and Christy Schneider
    8) Jeff Stein and Dee Dee DelCampos
There was a couple #9 that is also missing (?)
“In and Out of Love” just dropped out of the Billboard Top 40 last week and peaked at #9 back in December of ’67.
America had ”the bug” - Thanks to witty advertising, cheap cost and a reputation for reliability, the Volkswagen Beetle (or “Bug”) became one of the best selling cars in the U.S. in the late 60’s and early 70’s. Disney’s “Herbie the Love Bug” will premiere on Dec. 24. (My parents first car together was a ’69 Bug. I grew up riding often in the tiny area behind the back seat - the seatbelt-less area we called the back-back)
Jenny and Famous, if you ever see this, congratulations again! I hope you made good use of your new cars.
Philadelphia native Bobby Rydell, who passed away this week, made 11 guest appearances on American Bandstand both before and after the show moved to Hollywood. - Rest in peace. This month also marks the 10th anniversary (on April 18) of the passing of Dick Clark. We miss you Dick.
Thank you to @jthyme (Gary) for supplying this episode and thank YOU for watching and for all of your comments. You guys are the best!!!

First I appreciate the way everyone dressed as it shows respect for each other and the show. Dancers 1,2,3, and 4 are a perfect example of how skilled they all were. Also, compliments to the ladies on their hair styles and make up. Couchgrouch

Congrats to Famous and Jenny. I wonder how long they had those Volkswagens (and how they coped with the taxes due on the prizes!). All 3 couples were great dancers. With the price of gas today, that Honda motorcycle at 1:18 that gets 200 miles per gallon would come in very handy! One thing that surprises me is that American Bandstand was giving away foreign made vehicles in 1968.

Well, I'm quite sure they were only giving away whichever manufacturers were sponsoring the program & they were the company/companies supplying the items, motorbikes & vehicles.

VW Bugs had been around for years in America! I had a much older friend in college who had one in 1960 and just a few years later I had a VW Bug! Loved it! Great to drive, greatest gas mileage, easy to fix ( no radiator), and easy to fix!

Big Smile on my face over here. I recall from the preliminaries previously posted that these three couples were the standouts so it's a treat watching them featured here. Wow, what a great clip! I smiled the whole video, now my face hurts! Lol Such a moment. I loved how the runner ups gave it their all so we could see why they were in the top 3. They tore it up! I wonder if Famous & Jenny have pics if themselves with these cars & how long they had them... Jenny was so overcome with emotion, she could hardly dance. The significance of them winning a contest on national TV in the 60s... WHOA!!!
Aaron, what a great conclusion to Wednesday's clip, I looked forward to seeing this (and the weekend) since then! I'll be watching this again later on, what a great way to start my weekend! Thanks Aaron & shout out to Jean & our main man Don!!! RIP Bobby & Dick (has it really been 10 years??? Same with Don Cornelius, ugh)

Famous and Jenny's reaction to winning is priceless. Cathy looks disappointed at only being runner-up. I replayed the posted clips of everybody in this contest dancing. Couple #3 probably came in 4th, couples 5,7 and 8 didn't look very good. Aaron identified girl #3 as Claudia Dyche. I'm sure he'll replace that ? soon so as not to get it confused with the Mysterians' lead singer.

Our farm had a cattle herd for 90 years. almost for our farm's history. Our last bull was a black angus..Son of Nu. We came home one evening and saw him in our front yard.
Our cattle lived in virgin prairie with a lake. They came up to the barn when they were tired of grass. We herded them quietly with subtle hand movements. We told this to the farmers who bought our herd, but they didn't believe us. They yelled at the cattle who panicked , crashed through a holding fence, and hid in a corn field for over a day..
Off topic .Have you heard of American Bandstand? Several teen dancers joined the service or became farmers.
