Thank you for this tutorial! I was having issues with audio with my Elgato HS 60S so I ended up getting the Audio-Video USB Capture Device used in your video. It worked like a charm!
Hello, I found another way to record PS2 Gameplays, I already had an Avermedia Game Capture HD II and I just needed a Component cable and then I plugged everything. The video quality isn't HD but I think it has a decent quality (you can see in my Splinter Cell videos).
If you do not mind, I have a couple questions: 1. Theoretically, this method should work with most game systems, right? (Xbox, Xbox 360, Wii, etc.) 2. Is the software that you are using to stream/record the gameplay displaying what is on your laptop, or on your PS2? (Like if i am streaming and checking my web browser during the live stream, will the viewers be seeing only the gameplay/PS2? ) 3. I noticed the the audio quality of DBZ Tenkaichi 3 here is quite low. Any ideas why that is? I am thinking it could be just how the XIANREN Audio Video Capture Card sounds when recording, since it is so cheap. If you feel up to answering these, let me know please! 😁
1. Yup it should, I even tested it with the Switch and it worked pretty well. 2. Exactly, they will only be able to see the PS2 gameplay and yourself (if you enable your webcam). 3. The main reason the quality is quite low is because I also had the mic on my laptop also recording. If I turned it off, the quality is much better. You can adjust the settings as well to get better quality. I hope this helps!

I've tried your setup and works fine with PS2 games but when i put in a PS1 disk i get to the PS1 logo and then nothing appears on screen. Is there a way around this issue or is it just not possible recording PS1 games with this setup?
Just looking at this setup, are there any possibilities that you mightve encountered some input lags? like If youre streaming this for fighting games or RPGs with QTEs, essential reaction time is essential on this one which is why I wanna ask if there's some kind fo input lag occurring on this one.
There will be some input lag, especially with games like the ones you suggested. I would definitely go with something like the Elgato, that better minimizes that lag and has more processing power. These small, inexpensive HDMI converters are a good starting point for beginners/casual players.
This tutorial somewhat works. I say somewhat, because while switching everything over to the capture card, the video appears but the audio doesn’t exist. I successfully switched the video device over to OBS, but while switching the audio, the name of the capture card doesn’t appear as an option, and this is only an audio problem. Is this issue common, and what can I do to fix my audio problem? Overall, it mostly works, and I’m impressed.
Yup, this works for any console that uses HDMI. It does work a lot better with consoles that are not as powerful though (PS1/PS2/Switch, etc.), once you start using this for something like the PS4 or PS5, it won’t work as well (or even at all). Depending on the game and your computer’s specs, you might find a bit of lag. Also, it is a budget capture card and it’ll be the best you can get value wise. Alternatively you’ll need to get something premium, like the Elgato, to remove all lag. What I’ve noticed is during recording/streaming, the gameplay is a bit laggy, but there is no lag once I play back the recorded gameplay. Hope this helps!
Have you tried only connecting to a TV to make sure the HDMI works? Sometimes the settings on the PS2 need to be adjusted. @@DiverseTech Thank you! I will try it on an other PC as soon I can. I think the problem is that the signal from the Kaico adapter probably gets some kind of color changes and the capture card does it maybe too? So it gets a color adjustment double the time and then the colors are off. The kaico adapter has a switch between rgb and Y Cb/Pb Cr/ Pr but it just gets from bad to even worse. Also the signal on my TV is pinkish too, without the capture card and only the kaico adapter everything works fine.

I did a mini trial recording to test sound and and found it. I had gameplay whilst recording but no audio and when I played back the recording it has the video and sound so how can I have sound whilst playing g and recording a vid??
OK so I use the same exact devices, followed your tutorial exactly, and I still have the rainbow screen. It works fine on my PS3, but the video just won’t come up for my PS2. But the record back is terrible. I’m not picking up any audio except sputtering static in a frame rate is just terrible.
Hey make sure all your cables are connected and not loose. Are you using a PS2? If so make sure the HDMI adapter is working by testing with your TV. Try also testing a different system. If all these fail, you may have gotten a defective unit. I would either return and reorder, or see if the seller will send a new one! Hope this helps!

Hey! Do you recommend buying the Elgato capture for the PS2 if you want zero lag? I’ve been testing out the ones in this video and the lag is just too much for me to be able to complete my gameplay. I’ve tried nearly everything to stop it from lagging but it won’t work. I just wanna be able to record myself playing the game with no lag.
Maybes my devise is shite because it will show video but will be extremely flickery when playing games but will be normal in bios
When you have this set up are you able to input your audio and commentary somehow? Or you can simply use your mic or headset?
Through OBS, you can connect a headset/mic and add it as a source to record commentary
@@DiverseTech so basically through the computer ?
Yeah exactly
@@DiverseTech
Awesome, say I’m reaching back to you because I finally have my materials, the converter and etc but would Screen recorder studio for windows 10 suffice, since Obs didn’t work for my hp windows laptop
so wait, the only way i will be able to look at the gameplay itself is through the obs?
Yes. Theoretically an HDMI splitter would work but some people say it doesn’t. I have yet to test it
@@DiverseTech keep me posted please,
i was looking at some more expensive options, like the for example elgato 4k thing HDMI to USB, has a little program that basically shows you the captured footage live
but no other hdmi to usb i saw has this
You can split the yellow cable to link the hdmi converter AND your TV 😉
So any HDMI cable console works for this? I wanted to use a PS2,3 AND maybe vita
Yup exactly!
Hey! I got all the items for this but the only difference is that I have the fat PS2 (the bigger one). How do I still operate it the same? I’m struggling right now
Hey! It would be the same setup, with one small difference - you will need to plug in the USB cable that comes with the HDMI converter. This video will help you out! th-cam.com/users/shortsrhSak7I-hkw?feature=share
@@DiverseTech Thank you so much! I was so confused haha, I’ll let you know how it all goes!
Yep yep you recorded the best PS2 game to 🔥🔥🔥🔥.
So do you need 1 or both. I currently use an Elgato. Perfect for 360 games but the ps2 games are super dark.
Well if you already have a PS2 to HDMI converter, then you will only need the Video Capture Card
Thanks diverse tech
what the- you didn't use the 5v power cable for the ps2 to hdmi converter. How does that work like that
Yeah I was surprised too… honestly I’m not too sure as to why it works without it…
how did you get the ps2 dongle to output something larger than a 340x320 resolution?
You have to adjust the video output settings in OBS studio!
@@DiverseTech when I do the preview for the gameplay disappears
Hey! Okay last thing, I FINALLY got everything set up and the audio/video is great. It records everything. My final problem is that it’s a bit laggy to where it’s effecting my gameplay. Is there a quick fix to this? After that, I should have no more problems! Thank you so much for everything so far
@@DiverseTech Okay sounds good! I’ll record anyways because I’ve been wanting to do this for like a decade now. Thanks for all the help man!
No problem! Happy I could help!
I've set up the sources but the colored bars don't switch over to the PS2 when I turn it on. Any tips?
Have you tried only connecting to a TV to make sure the HDMI works? Sometimes the settings on the PS2 need to be adjusted. There are tutorials on how to change the settings of the video output that you can follow (they will tell you the buttons to press on the controller without having to look at the screen)… hopefully this helps. I’ll try to post a video about this as well
This is good but my video doesn’t work the audio does though
Sorry to hear that! When you use the adapter to connect your PS2 to a TV, do you get video? It just doesn’t work with OBS studio?
@@DiverseTech it’s fine bro It was something with the settings that why it didn’t work but I got it working but thank you anyway
hi I purchased both products from your links and have the same version of the console as you do but it doesn't seem to recognise the signal any ideas or advice to get it to work?
Hey, have you tried testing the HDMI converter on its own to test (connecting to your tv/monitor)?
@@DiverseTech I’ve had a look but I don’t think there is anywhere I can plug it into my tv/computer other than my console?
@@cainwareing5607 Your TV doesn't have an HDMI input?
I have a question to you guys, I have a similar setup with a ps2 and a kaico hdmi Adapter plugged into a capture card. I receive a signal in OBS but the video is all pink! I played around with the compount video out settings but I can't fix it.. It runs perfect with my ps3.. is it because of the kaico adapter? Would ne nice if anyone could help!
Try to play around with the Color Range settings in OBS Studio. Let me know if that works!
@@DiverseTechThanks for your comment, I tried different settings in OBS but nothing changed.. The footage still looks very pinkish and no natural colors..
@@stereoflash1 Sorry to hear that! Let me look into this further and see if I can find anything else that may help. Also, are you able to download OBS on another computer and test that way?
@@DiverseTech Thank you! I will try it on an other PC as soon I can. I think the problem is that the signal from the Kaico adapter probably gets some kind of color changes and the capture card does it maybe too? So it gets a color adjustment double the time and then the colors are off. The kaico adapter has a switch between rgb and Y Cb/Pb Cr/ Pr but it just gets from bad to even worse. Also the signal on my TV is pinkish too, without the capture card and only the kaico adapter everything works fine.
Did you get a chance to test on another computer?
Hey, I was just here a minute ago. I’ve got everything set up correctly by your instructions but when I turn on the PS2, I still just see the rainbow screen. I’m using a HP windows desktop computer and plugging in the video capture from the back of the computer, is there something I’m doing wrong?
Hey! This video will walk you through some troubleshooting tips: th-cam.com/video/_rVPhwxuhPc/w-d-xo.html
Could I stream on TH-cam, TikTok, twitch etc?
Yes you can! Check out this video: th-cam.com/video/Ka9a5Wg1xXY/w-d-xo.html
I have done everything and can record the gameplay and everything works but I cannot get any audio
Can't get audio playing from the computer's speakers while recording or when playing back the recorded file?
Before recording the game screen is on but there is no sound on the Obs app and it shows the audio meter moving and I can’t seem to hear anything
Also have another question I did a mini recording to see if I can get sound but I don’t actually know where the recording gies
Any suggestion on where it would be eg in the obs app in the obs folder or the computers file etc
Have you tested the PS2 to HDMI converter with a TV/Monitor?
I have a Chrome book lab top does it still work for that.
I think there are workarounds to record gameplay on a Chromebook, but for the most part I don't think there is a solid method for it.
My PS 2 still won't play on my Smart TV. I have adapter and hdmi to hdmi to TV
Check out this video: th-cam.com/video/_rVPhwxuhPc/w-d-xo.html
So you play your games through obs, right?
Yup I do!
Does this work okay for streaming PS2 gameplay on Twitch?
Yup, it will work
@@DiverseTech thank you 💯💯
So I bought cheap HDMI video capture thing and my screen not only flickers but also have a line under the display thing, help
Are you able to do full screen on obs?
Yup you can!
For some reason it records from my PS2 games but not from my PS1 games. Any fix?
It should work with the PS1 but I’m not 100% sure. What’s the issue you’re facing?
@@DiverseTech basically when I try to play a ps2 game on my ps2 through the capture card it works perfectly fine. However, when I put in a PS1 game in the PS2 it doesn’t show up in OBS.
I assume the hdmi cable is 4.0?
Should work with any HDMI cable
do you need to have a good laptop/computer for this to work?
My laptop here is 2012 and it works great! As long as you have a decent processor with at least 4 or 8GB of ram, it should be enough.
@@DiverseTech thanks for the info. really appreciated.
hello there I have a 550 graphics card in my pc do you think that'll be good enough to record ps2 gameplay??
That should be more than enough.
@@DiverseTech awesome thank you for your response have a great rest of your week! :)
Anytime, you too!
Does anyone know how to stop making the video lag and glitch? Or is it just a faulty capture device I have? Thank youuu!
Depends on a couple of factors. Which computer are you using? Are you recording PS2 gameplay or other consoles? Have you tested multiple games?
@@DiverseTech Ahh, well I got a HP Pavilion gaming laptop, yes I am recording from a fat PAL ps2 (Maybe I should try my Japan one?), I have tested quite a few games already.... Sorry if this is confusing....
Is it possible to change resolution and FPS while recording with these gadgets or is it fixed?
Yup you can through OBS!
If I used a HDMI splitter, will I be able to watch gameplay on my TV instead on OBS?
Good video btw !!!
Yup, theoretically that should work! I haven’t tested it out myself though
And thank you!
Ps2 hdmi adapter is not available in infia can you share any other plz??
I’ll try to find something!
@@DiverseTechdid you find anything?
Thank you for this video. I'd like to buy both of the merchandise but I have one question. This rather looks like playing the game on the small display in OBS. Is there an alternative how to play it on TV but still record the stream with OBS?
You could technically connect your laptop to the TV/monitor as well to play on a bigger screen
You can right click on your OBS display to preview in full screen
